no way would you do time for a pub fight, the two lads who stamped on my mates head in front of the police got away with community service. A first offence of punching someone will get community service and a fine. So he will lose a days wages and have to do a few school visits.

If every fight resulted in hard jail time thousands of people every weekend would end up doing time. I think if this was not Gerrard it would not even be in court tbh but as he is so high profile the cps had to act. He is nothing like Barton who is a repeat offender many times over.

As I said in the general thread on this subject. Look at the way the SFA acted over Barry Ferguson making V signs to cameras. Ban from international, and then Rangers banned and sold him. Either the FA should ban him from internationals for bringing the game into disrepute or Capelllo should refuse to select him. Barton has been berated for his actions, yet Gerrard is untouchable because he is a better footballer? I do not want to see a thug like him in an England shirt, and though I despise booing, I hope he gets it hard in every ground he plays in this season.

I agree the FA should step in but there isa difference Furguson did it while on national duty so the SFA had to act. I would love to see him get footballing punishment just like i want Barton to be banned, but people saying he should go to jail are being clouded by football. Fights like that happen every weekend in every city in the UK i would think and if everyone ended with a criminal trial and jail time we would need a fair few new courts and prisons.
