To clarify a bit, were I given moderation rights I would indeed prefer that you wouldn't see me do the er deed. However be assured, if I didn't feel I was up to helping out I wouldn't have offered to in the first place.

Ask yourself why you actually want a Moderator, and what action you expect them to take.

If it's to cut out the 'spam', then forget using the so called "Deities", as they are the chief proponents of it. Some of them have chilled out recently, but the vast majority post 1 liners and pointless threads just to get their post count up.

If it's to "tidy up" the place, and prevent cross posting etc - is cross posting REALLY that big a deal? So someone posts something in a couple of forums - you just mention it in your reply in the relevant one and ignore the other one.

If it's to enforce any sort of 'rules and regulations', imo it's a bad idea. Having been responsible for moderation/control in a similar public forum (ie IRC), there's one very important thing I've learned - you can never win. However rational or irrational (believe me, I've tried both ) you are, it all comes down to a subjective judgement call. The most effective moderation is non-moderation (apart from in extreme cases), a mod getting involved merely lengthens whatever 'episode' he's there to control by a factor of about 5. Forum mods don't have the power to intervene in these extreme cases (ie by deleting accounts), so they're largely impotent.

The only thing 'wrong' with the boards nowadays is that they don't seem to be as interesting as they used to be, and while we all have our theories for why that is, having new moderators won't solve it. So I vote for noone. And no, before anyone mentions it, this isn't my underhanded attempt to get myself nominated, I've gradually and completely lost interest with this place as my dwindling post rate shows, and for that reason (and many others I'm sure ) I'm definitely not suitable.

This has to be the most controversial proposition I've ever come across here... argh. All that needs doing is the wiping of menacing threads. The normal moderators do look out but they generally don't surf about here much, thus often take alot of time to closing them :/ Can't really see a (voted) regular here abusing that myself, but hell... what does my opinion mean to anyone?

What does anyone's opinion mean to anyone here? It either gets ignored or flamed. Rarely taken into consideration by others. And when you get flamed over an opinion, is when the need to close threads is appropriate.

And it's not to cut down spam in any way, just to re-direct threads. Hardly rocket science, no offence Emb and TdC.

There were two... one in Methos QUake and the other in Fortress Nation... both got deleted :/ Ono's thread was hardly pornographic (well, maybe a few slipped out...)

Yeah, but we knew the thread would be locked or deleted when we started it. We knew we were sailing close to the wind and that it was only a matter of time before we got found out. We were pushing it cos we were norty and there was nobody here to tell us off.
