having...

...access to both an xbox and a gamecube...
i'd have to say that saying that you'd have to be an idiot to buy an xbox is a totally innacurate statement...
the xbox is a very good console...

slightly mangy pad... tad more expensive... but some fucking good games?

buy one? buy the other? buy both?

but don't rubbish the fucking xbox cretins

ahh..the usual X-Box jibes. Don't understand why people who pretend to know about consoles call it shite just because its by Microsoft. Anyone who knows owt would be excited by the potential the X-Box shows.
Also as to the price, is it really that much of a rip-off? considering its almost 3 times as powerful as the PS2, has a hdd (saving you the pennies on buying a poxy ickle memory unit), takes 4 controllers without a multi-tap (I know the cube does this as well which is very handy) and has the broadband stuff in there as well. At £200 thats a bargain if you ask me, though I will agree that the UK controller is pap. My advice to anyone who has a box is to get a jap controller....they're sooooo much nicer.

The Xbox is more expensive but not a rip off...and in reality its not 3 times as powerful as a PS2.

I've got a PS2, and will be buying a gamecube in the next couple of weeks. The reason i've had little to no interest in the Xbox, is not because i'm anti microsoft (Far from it.) but because to be blunt, the launch titles were.... shit. Both ps2 and gamecube have some extremely good titles on the horizon. Take final fantasy X on ps2 for example - I somewhat doubt anything on the Xbox is going to touch that.

Best game ever my arse. Anyone that seriously thinks that Halo is the best game ever really would need to play more than the 1 game in their entire life in order to come to any reasonable conclusion.

:p

Trust charl8tan to bring up the "kiddy" thing...

And Halo most definitely isnt the best game ever, its good, but thats it, just like GTA3.

Cant understand why people go on and on about both of them :/

Halo is okay, nothing earth shattering, the graphics didnt blow me away, the x-box controller doesnt help. That game needs a mouse and keyboard.

I'm so glad I dont touch consoles. True they have some great looking games, but I'd prefer to spend the 200 notes on my PC.

Errrr....when did I go into the "kiddy" zone Skyler. Also I never said it WAS 3 times as powerful, I said ALMOST, because it IS ALMOST 3 times as powerful. And if these references to power are your "kiddy thing" Skyler I was merely pointing out in a subtle way (obviously you missed it, too subtle for my own good) that the PS2 has had some quality games (in appearance and play) and thus the potential the X-Box shows.
As for Halo I think it's an awesome game, not the best I've ever played, but it ranks up there somewhere. And Ch3tan, if you see Halo on a decent screen with the advanced scart cables, then it does look earth shattering, ask Lilz sometime and he'd agree with me on that. Those screens at i10 for instance....were absolute shite.

To be the best FPS ever you would have to be able to use mouse keyboard combo.

I totally agree MT, all the times I've played it I couldn't help myself but imagine how awesome it would be with mouse + keyboard. Another sucky thing about it is that for some reason they limited it to only 4 X-Boxes being linked up, 4 players on each max. 16 Player is a good laugh, but everyone is constantly moaning about using 1/4 of the screen.
I can't wait for it on PC to be honest, as then mass online goodness with whole screen :D

Well I bought an Xbox and I like it. Its graphics are very good and the games are quite good but theres not much choice.

I thought Halo was the best looking FPS I've played and I have played all FPS (inc really really bad ones like Diakatanna). Certainly the levels were much bigger than any other game I've played cept maybe Tribes / Tribes2. Loading was quick and slow down only evident on really OTT levels. Ive played Halo online and thats not bad but too many newbies setting up stuff they know little about is my experience.

Now I paid 300 when it came out and Ive taken up the offer Microsoft made for 2 games and a controller so I think that was very good of them (I dont think that happened with the PS2 for instance).

Im buying a game cube but not cos its better but to play the games on that platform.

Very good point sawtooth. All the machines have games on that we like if we're honest about it. I will probably get a GC at some point, just not yet cos I'm skint :(. And MS doing that offer is very rare for any company, but also very nice, I certainly ain't complaining :D.

lets not forget they did that because they HAD to reduce the price so early, hence all the customers who bought the original priced one would be a tad miffed (rightly so) and to shut them up before they even got started they offered two games and a joypad. Granted, not to be sniffed at but lets not start hailing microsoft as saints simply because they wanted to avoid a barrage of complaints.

See there you go knocking them for doing something for which, lets be honest, they didnt have to do. I mean its not like those who had bought it would take their Xboxes back? Sure commercial interests played a part but all the console manufacturers are guilty of this. I even heard of people looking for 300 quid xboxes so they could get the extra value back now whos exploiting that situation?

Yes, I paid 300 quid for my PS2, and no, I didn't get anything off Sony when the price came down to 199. But then, I had had my PS2 for about 9 months at that stage, as demand for PS2's was high enough not to have to resort to such desperate tactics as dropping the price by 100 quid 3 weeks after it launched cos no one wanted the fucking thing.

I wasnt knocking microsoft. I think it's quite a good thing that they did, but I'm saying lets not all rush to hail them as saints. They're not, they simply avoided a PR nightmare. Granted they could have simply done a massive :upyours: to the people who bought the initial 300 quid x box but that'd be very silly. And yes I think lots of xbox owners WOULD take back their console if ms didnt offer some sort of compensation. I sure as fuck would have done (if I had an xbox)

I doubt they would've taken them back. Probably moaned like buggery for weeks on end to anyone that'd listen but I reckon they still woulda hung onto their boxes. As for the PS2 price dropping cos of demand...think you'll find it dropped because thats when Sony had scheduled it to drop, Microsoft have had to drop theirs because all the papers and magazines call £300 a rip-off, along with the release of the cube and Sonys price drop, dont think its so much a desperate move as a required move.
Oh...and we all know Microsoft ain't saints, you only have to look at any version of Windows to see that :D

Which is why I said about the release of the Gamecube, one of the major reasons the X-Box aint shifting is because people are waiting for that. Why else would I mention the GCs release as part of the reason for a price drop. Anyway, stop making me defend MS, they is bastards :p

not so sure that joe public were 'waiting' for the Gamecube as it wern't widely advertised until a few days before release(i.e. TV ads). The people who were waiting would be the gamin folk that browse the mags and knew what was coming.

The fact it ain't shifted as much is probably down to the PS2 taking more of the original sales due to people getting a 2 in 1 jobbie. DVD and console. no need to buy the Xbox for another DVD player...

don't get me wrong tho, i'll prbably get a Xbox in the end tho - after i get me GC.

Uh, Nintendo started television advertising a few days after Microsoft's first offerings, which was like, beginning of March or earlier.

And still nobody has told me what that tune is on the GameCube advert.
