The attack on King's Landing was epic, the acting/directing/cinematography/CGI/sound/etc was all top notch, it's just the writing letting it down. It's such a departure from the quality of the storytelling in previous seasons, it almost makes me want to read the books (the 6th and 7th are apparently complete but won't be published until the show finishes) to see how the actual creator of the world saw it all ending.

Looking back, you wondered how dragons could've done so much damage to Harrenhal when Jon Snow was protected by a rock but episode 5 was a real demonstration of how powerful they are as a weapon (perhaps too powerful), when they can somehow dodge every since one of those scorpion shots.
Yeh. Drogon's flame was actually causing explosions in the wall / scorpions. More like a high-calibre cannon than a flamethrower. Doesn't really square with Viserion not being able to do shit about a small rock.

It's going to a tres awks between everyone post battle :/

Who died then? Not sure I remember them all.

It's the "power levels that fit the story" problem you get in the MCU etc (eg. Thor's powers are all over the place depending on the needs of the scene). Inconsistent dragons is kind of inevitable (also do they never run out of flame?). Personally I like my mythical creatures to be underpinned by some consistent rules, but GRRM himself has said he doesn't give a shit about that in ASOIAF and doesn't want to explain how magic stuff works in this world.

It Is Now Clear Having Two Short ‘Game Of Thrones’ Final Seasons Was A Mistake

Basically, everybody (GRRM, HBO, the fans) wanted it to go on longer but Benioff and Weiss wanted to rush it to a conclusion so they can move onto other projects (like the next Star Wars). Maybe they lost interest when they had to actually come up with the source material themselves.

If HBO wanted longer seasons, they'd have had longer seasons. The shorter episode run is to allow them to do the vast set pieces and CGI they wanted to do without destroying their budgets. Blaming the showrunners is bollocks tbh, it's all about the money. Don't be fooled by what anyone says to the press, including the showrunners themselves, they want future work and won't contradict the studio.

Sorta agree. They could have got someone else to do the heavy lifting and let the current guys be exec producers.

They could have let me write it. We wouldn't have missed out on the 2-hour lez-off episode that way.

That's what I think too. It's not that the storylines in season 7 and especially season 8 have been bad or not foreshadowed for multiple seasons it's that they've been rushed. Remember that actor contracts have to be renewed after season 5 (typically) and given the success of the show and the increased production values the audience expects. If someone told me that the 6 episodes in seasons 8 cost as much to make as seasons 1 and 2 combined I'd believe them.

No CGI needed for my lez-off episodes and you could bin off the male cast's wages.

Common sense really.

It's so obvious in hindsight.

I read this and thought, "I bet the porn industry got there first".

Episode 5 was superb.

The last few seasons have been rushed. And there were definitely weaknesses in the writing.

But without thinking too deep about what they should have done, what they did do was one of the best episodes in the entire series. I was hooked. All the other episodes in this season I could was walk away from. This episode I had to watch in one go. Brilliant.

CBA with spoilers so I'll say no more about inconsistencies and unsatisfying character resolutions.

Will watch again tonight. Maybe I'll see that airplane.

Blame GRRM for being the slowest writer ever, the actors for wanting pay increases every year, HBO for enforcing budgets, D&D for being lured to the Dark Side and finally blame a world full of fans with a variety of often contradicting desires lol.
Episode 3 sooked it was too predictable and not like the GOT of old where you could not predict things!! Episode 5 sooked as characters should do things that are easy to predict !! ect ect

It's been kinda cack since characters started teleporting around the map.

I daresay that when you've created something and understand how the story ends in your head the actual bit where you brimg that to screen could be a massive ballache you don't really care about.

I just hope for the next big book project they choose a story already completed or a writer that doesnt have this level of writers block

GRRM didn't write the last two series. His books are good to go apparently.

But meh. I'm enjoying it still - but it's reminded me to not take TV so seriously.

I am still also really enjoying it and personally think they have done fine, cannot have been easy making the transition from GRRM guided seasons to having to come up with it themselves.

Yup. "Well, that's that then" was my first thought as the credits rolled.

Well, glad that's over.
Yeah, not great. Especially the bit leading up to the melting of the throne. She left the steps being followed by unsullied guards who apparently vanished, how did the dragon get covered in ash(?) so quickly after being on the top of the castle, surely she would have sat down whilst J&T had their drawn out conversation, etc.

So it's over.... and I feel absolutely nothing...

It was only the last quarter that picked up. Bronn got his castle (!!). Him being Maester of Coin though? Seems more like fan-service, after all what does Bronn know about money? (Suppose the same sentiment can be had when Tyrion became MoC by Tywin... But that was because he HAD money, Bronn started with absolutely nothing.)

Bran as king? Load of fucking shit. Even more was the twattishness displayed by Sansa - You be king of these southern fuckers, but I want to be Queen in the North so we're becoming independent. Bran certainly perked up when his name was mentioned. From someone a few episodes ago who only enjoyed staring into space and not wanting anything, to not passing on the opportunity of being ruler.

Jon has had the biggest disservice though. That was a big fuck you to the past number of years and to his claim of the throne. Why the fuck should Grey Worm get any input if he is pissing off to Naarth? Jon saved the 7(6) kingdoms a fate of a tyrant and the whole other world after she seemed intent on invasion. This should have been Jon's moment and instead he gets sent to a dysfunct Nights Watch (which, by the lucks of it he ended up leaving anyway?!)

The scene with Dany walking out of the Red Keep with Drogon behind her did look epic as fuck though. The rest of her scenes I didn't feel much for mind.

Rule of Cool. Stop overthinking it.

A much more thoughtful ending than I was expecting tbh. (At this point I was expecting something idiotic).

Feels like a bunch of Dothraki running around Westeros is a bit of a hanging thread, but otherwise, resolutions all round).

Big Bang Theory ending was better though, I nearly shed a tear.
