It was basically where level 20-24 (out of 50) people would go to get a few realm points (points awarded for killing other players) so they could buy some abilities to help while levelling, very few people took it that seriously and once they had reached the very low cap they would continue to level and thus become unable to enter.

I will go as far as to admit I played WAR and WOW for (extremely) brief periods. So are the realms capped at levels? once you progress to a higher one you can't go back?

No, think of it as a scenario or a battleground that has no beginning or end. There is one for several level groups, Thid being 20-24...I can't remember the other ones or their names. At one time Thid was the only one.

Realm points are capped on player level, at level 24 you could only reach 1L3...or was it 1L4? Anyway, that would give you some points which you could spend on extra abilities. It took about half an hour to get that and there was no point being there after that. It was pretty boring really, it was either empty, a massive gang fest or you would just meet people who would have maxed out their character for their level, best equipment possible and so on. There was no logical reason for it as most people just didn't bother so there was no challenge for them.

The normal progress was get to level 20 for free (if you already had a level 50 then 20 was the starting point on new characters, get your free armour, go to thid and get level 24 and a few realm points then level up to 50 in whatever armour you happen to get along the way.

cheers bud! so, you could step in to the game at 20 or 50 right away? so, armour wasn't linked to levels? I mean, you could get lucky and find a set of bad-ass armour, and it would be good enough to last you like 25 levels?

edit: ah, only if you already had a levelled char. I see.

Raven gives one view point of Thidranki, here is another.

DAoC has changed a lot over the years. With the introduction of various expansions came new abilities and new items. A lot of people believed that these new additions were way too powerful and also that they spoiled the original magic and balance of the game. Some people believe that this Battlegrounds, as it is played at a lower level, is DAoC in a purer form.

We actually believe that it is fairer, because of the lower levels there are none of these extra abilities and items that exist. These abilities and items were essential for you to be competitive at level 50 fighting, so for some of us who did not have the time to grind out for hours getting these, Thidranki was certainly the answer.

Also, in DAoC there is a thing called Realm Rank. It basically means the more players you kill, the higher your rank is. With Realm Ranks, you get Realm Abilitiy points to spend whereby you can attain ridiculously over-powered realm abilities. The vicious circle is that the hardcore players are more likely to have had the time to attain these powerful items and abilities, and therefore easily dispatched people in RvR with them, and therefore attained a higher Realm Rank and then able to possess even more over-powered abilities through spending their Realm Ability points.

Thidranki was, in my opinion, a more even playing field.

Hope it clears some things up.

so is that all for PVP, or would the extra points count everywhere?

Realm Abilities could be used in everywhere, including PvE, if I understand your question correctly. However, at level 24 you are limited to certain Realm Abilities that are not much use, and you only get 4 points to spend so to be honest it wasn't much use. And since there was a Realm Point cap (that took about an hour to reach), everyone was the same Realm Rank.

Some classes were missing a few abilities where as some were fine though, also crowd control was pretty OP since you couldn't get purge and decent Determination. Biggest problem was that there was rarely decently structured groups, at least in Albion there was barely ever any clerics.

Also there was quite often a large gap in items/template. If you templated a char out it was easy against most people, if you had a buffbot as well then it was as easy as RvR got. Good fun if you wanted a break from proper RvR though, who doesn't like slaughtering people? :p

I agree, but it is all relative.

If the gap between templated and non-templated people in Thidranki was big, then what of the same gap at level 50? You cannot deny that it is much bigger.

Yeah, that's why most people at 50 have templates, but most in thidranki didn't.

I don't know. The people I fought in "proper RvR" mostly had decent and equal templates. I would generally leave alone people who were clearly not able to compete against me due to equipment or realm rank, unless near a bridge or add hotspot. Or in the very least I would smack them about a bit and leave them at 10% or so.

Aren't you like 13 and you were a RR3 adding scout over a period of 10 years?

Go back to work at MacDs and have a wank over some cartoons, let the big boys talk.

seriously? this is your reply to being told how immature you are?

"LOLZ I R NOT IMMATURE YOUR 11 GO TO BED LOLOLOLOLOLLOLOL"

also i'm probly older than you, and my scout was always melee specced so adding wouldn't have achieved alot, but the daoc comunity decided long ago all scouts add so w/e, i only played on EU for about 2 years, and i was a MIGHTY RR7 xD

i never worked at mcdonalds (although i did reject them twice after interviews cos i had better offers and the third time i applied they told me to FO :( devestating!), i genrally prefer to wank over your mum, and i like the fact you say "let the big boys talk" rather than adults, even you realise that you're nothing close to an adult!

anything else??

Doubtful, I'd say your about 18, I'm 21 and living abroad in a nice apartment with my own things (you know you've made it when you've bought your own fridge). And my parents never gave me a penny. However yes i'm still imnature, I like to mock people and i'm never serious. The more serious you are, the more I will wind you up.

i'm 24, 25 in 6 weeks......

and living abroad in a nice apartment with my own things (you know you've made it when you've bought your own fridge).

moved out 4 years ago, lived on my own, now live with friends about 150 miles from home town.

And my parents never gave me a penny.
so? i've never had money given to me or a car bought for me or anything, everything i own and buy is mine. infact between my brother mum sister and best amte i'm owed about 2k

However yes i'm still imnature, I like to mock people and i'm never serious. The more serious you are, the more I will wind you up.

you don't wind me up..... you confuse me, i'm just sat here wondering how someone can seriously be that retarded, personaly if i was going to rip in to somones life on the intermaweb i'd probly do some research, like check previous posts or my profile to find out where i work how old i am what car i drive where i live ect ect.... bet about 50% of the people on here could give a semi accurate life history of mine to take the piss out of given 5 mins......

just making up random genralisations of a spotty teenage chav makes you look ...... well like you

Really LOL, not on a farm eating my own animals I know plenty of people that budget their living equal to higher than London. You couldn't even live on less then £600-700 a month in Bangkok so I'm sure you couldn't. Shit I'd be suprised if you could buy a car here, a 15 year old civic will cost you £2k up.

Might be a corrupt and developing country but it's still winning, beats the shit out of the hell hole we call the UK. Nice to get on a train and it feels like 2011 and comfortable. Not some old piece of shit we call a tube in London that's a rip off and breaks down every 5 minutes.

Wasn't it possible to turn your XP off and stay in Thid permanently on 24? Can't remember. My experiences of Thid are either wandering around an empty zone or getting ganked by bonedancers lol
