Looks like they were trying to clear a path through a PUBLIC ROAD blocked by a bunch of protestors to me.

Looked like they'd stopped a bunch of protesters going down a PUBLIC ROAD in a peaceful fashion, tried to push them back and then started to twat 'em a little, to me.

If they want to clear public roads maybe they shouldnt cordon the public in from all sides for upto 8 hours with no food, drink or toilets?

And yep :)

The guys penned in were down at Bank where the RBS building was attacked. This lot had set up a camp in Bishopsgate and refused to clear the way - they were NOT penned in, all they had to do was turn and go but as the cries of 'forward!!' showed at the start of the clip they had pre-planned not to do so.

I think the policing has been absolutely first class, to be honest. They've shown alot of tolerance and patience, but when property has been damaged they've stepped in to take a grip of the situation.

I had heard that those that WERE penned in got portaloos brought in, but I haven't seen proof...

... and Bank tube underpass was well stinky the next day!

That footage is frankly rage inducing, that officer needs to have his balls cut off...

Don't you DARE have a go at the good police officers. They were having a hard time OK? And who can blame the police for getting a bit heavy handed? It's a hard job!

It's pure coincidence that he died of a heart attack just minutes after being assaulted, sorry, gently prodded by that police officer. There is NO scientific evidence that such kid-glove treatment would cause stress to a person and there's no evidence that people under stress have an increased risk of heart attack. Is there?

And I don't see why the family is finding it "hard to get answers". The police are always forthcoming and helpful with information. Aren't they?

To all the "state is goody two shoes" people who've posted here: Fuck you.

I'd like to be adult about it but what's the point? The next time a thread like this gets started the same shit will get spouted again. Its not like you're going to evaluate your positions in the light of new evidence, is it?

From my understanding of the situation people "penned" in where more then welcome to leave after they had been processed to eliminate them from enquires regarding the public disorder.

It is regretable that this poor man was caught up in the feud but if you watch footage you will see that whilst police medics tried to help him "peaceful protesters" began pelting them with bottles and other such objects.

Almost lost for words after watching that video. Acts of behaviour like that isn't just an isolated incident, police aggresion in these situations is often heavy handed and extreme.

In a statement, a group calling themselves G20 Witnesses said: "We call for a full public inquiry to look into Mr Tomlinson's death and the police tactics used throughout the G20 protests."

No.

So because police doctors helped him that makes knocking him to the ground from behind in the first place OK? And as for penning people in to "process" them, have you fucking heard yourself?

NB. When some dickhead threw a bottle, listen to mass of shouts telling him to pack it in.

To neither defend nor attack the police actions.

Why was he shuffling so much? the guy that is.

The guys 47, my 60year old dad moves alot faster than that, with the police biting at my heels i'd move significantly faster than that if i could.

Also, I am having trouble understanding why a push from an officer would cause him to have a heart attack and die, unless he was already on a fairly weak ticker? and the shove just pushed him over the edge.

Sad as it is, its always sad when someone dies, he may have been on the way out already and the shove just expidited matters :/

Seperate post on seperate thing.

On the penned in talk. We had a couple of Devs from our office walk down to RBS whilst they were breaking in, take some pictures, and walk back. Police didn't stop them at all, couple of the pictures are fairly close to the front aswell, taken on mobile phones. So i really dont buy the whole 'Omg they are penning us in!' thing. They may have penned in the trouble crowds, but normal folk were free to come and go, as born out by the devs.

Ofc none of them were wearing masks, brandishing poles or hurling objects.

Oh that makes it all OK then. His death is certainly "regrettable". Yes, that's the way I'd put it...

Not to defend or attack the police, but wtf was this guy doing anyway??! If I had the police near me I'd jump like the slave I am. Police prolly just sped things up as he was gonna die anyway - he obviously had a weak heart and all the rozzers did was give natural selection a helping hand...

Ah Scousey Scousey, not content with losing the plot in our previous discussion and going off at a tangent, here you go again.

Do enjoy your padded cell, because, as i'm sure we all know the rozzers are out to get you..and everyone else...for..umm....soemthing...and thus you'll soon be arrested for some trumped up charge and put in a cell.

I made a fairly serious post [for me anyway, i'm quite light hearted] about the health of the guy for him to have a heart attack from being shoved over [yep see, right there? that was me agreeing that the police shoved him un warranted...perhaps you missed it so i'll put it in again in big just for you]

I made a fairly serious post about the health of the guy for him to have a heart attack from being shoved over, which was more for my personal information on peopels opinions of the chances of dieing from ebing shoved over, rather than a concerted effort to distract people from Jock the Coppers saturday night shove, and you go off on a 'The police are out to get us/me/you/him' tangent, some might say you have a problem.

A witness (a journalist, not a protestor) states that prior to this he was bashed about a fair bit with truncheons, and knocked to the ground hitting his head quite badly. There's some low res pictures of his body being loaded onto an ambulance knocking around and it looks like there's some fairly obvious and nasty trauma to his head in them.

Also the rumors that he died from a heart attack is just a leak from a 'home office pathologist' (eh? what the hell is that, never heard of one of those!), no cause of death has been determined by a coroner, so it could be bollox to cover the arses of the police (woman I think from the video) who did this.

Also head injuries can kill after a bit, despite apparently normal functioning after the injury. Remember Natasha Richardson, she died suddenly a couple of hours after the head injury, and was apparently fine until then.

Ty inaction. That explains why the guy was shuffling along then if he had head trauma.

Lol Poag - missing the point again! :)

The fact is - it doesn't matter what state of health the chap was in or whether he was "shuffling along". The officer in question committed assault. That much was was clear in the video.

As for losing the plot. Nevah! I just had a lot to say. I've got cops in the family and as friends - and most of my views about policing come from them.

Cops beat people up because they can. Sorry you don't like that.

Lol Scouse - missing the point again!

The fact is i've never commented on wether it was a beating, a shove, a tickle, a flick, an ear nibble or a friendly game fo kiss chase around the playground.

I asked about the health of the guy for him to die from it. You took that as me saying he shouldn't have been around.

You want to take it as that, you go for it, you seem to be pretty good at your own tangents...so i dont see why you need any help from me. But dont try and play it off against me as what I said :)

You may also do well to note that you changed the talk about Cameras and there presence/activity from being about cameras to police beatings and riots in the last discussion....i fully expected you to do the same here and it does appear to be 'your' subject.

Furry muff. I'll go back and look at your post again, see if I took it the wrong way.

Why was he shuffling so much? the guy that is.

Yep. Looks like you're talking shit again Poag and my paraphrase above succinctly captures the essence of what you were saying.

Anyone disagree with me on this one?

Sorry guy but the way i read what i wrote is.

'There are dogs barking/biting at the guys heels, he is still moving very slowly, why is this'

Soz Poag. Your post does this:

1) Questions the actions of a man going about his own business, at the same time hinting that his actions are somehow "strange".

2) Questions the possible connection between the assault and the man's death.

3) Asserts that the man was probably going to die anyway as he must have had a "weak ticker". The inference is that it wasn't such a loss anyway.

And you knew that before you posted because you preceded the above with the disclaimer of "to neither defend nor attack the police actions"....

If thats how you wanna read it, go ahead. Wasn't how it was written....

[edit] Also i'm sure there are alot of people living today with 'weak tickers' who do not suddenly pop there clogs int he street with no external input/reason behind it.

I'll deviate from my other posts and post somethign I said on irc when I was asking for a second opinion on my post.

11:07 < Poag> i dont question that the police shoved him and he probably died from it
11:07 < Poag> but
11:08 < Poag> i do question how close to the edge you have to be for that to happen

Of course you can only take my word for it that, that is what I said and at that time.

Maybe the stress of getting his wounds sorted whilst under fire from scummers throwing bottles and shit at him caused his heart attack?

We dont know enough about the circumstances to link the shoving incident with his death - its clear he was assaulted by a policeman from that video though.

If he really did die of a heart attack the assault could conceivably have contributed to it but on the other hand he may have become excited by the crowd - I imagine being in a big demonstration that turns violent would be pretty stressfull.

A fair number of people die in normal large crowds so I'd guess a demonstration would lower the odds a lot more.

We will have to wait for the inquest to find the truth - that coppers in deep shit tho!
