Fat fucks disgust me too... BUT... What makes you think he owes you an apology for his state of health?

I know you struggle with the English language so I'll delicately point out that calling someone "brazenly unapologetic" is not asking for an apology.

I expected a post of this sort from you, considering you couldn't distinguish the obvious difference between two sentences I gave you earlier in this thread :D

The fact that so many yanks (and increasing numbers of Brits) are getting so fat says one thing: they're lazy and thick and not even clever enough to look after themselves.

It's the fat kids that amaze me the most tho - it's tantamount to child abuse, given that they're going to die early. And it's totally the parents fault and responsibilty.

The fact that you're brazenly unapologetic for your obvious personal failings says much.

Just to make it clear: you should be ashamed. :)

I can't speak for other americans but for myself it was a matter of going from working in the field where you could consume 5000 calories during the course of the work day to slowing down due to my age and working in a managerial capacity while not considering my eating habits.

during a ten year period I gained about fifty pounds. a friend who was taking a lose weight course mentioned that one of the exercises for this pricey course was to take a paper bag cut out eye holes place upon your head and stand naked before a mirror. I thought, hmmmmm. I went home with far too many beers ingested and tried this experiment......

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! who the fuck is that fat fuck????

I've lost about twenty five pounds in the last two or so years and will hover between 225-230 lbs currently. my target is to get to about 190lbs but it is proving immensely difficult due in no small part because unlike you guys the food here is just fantastic and I love to eat. I run a bit every now and then but not as consistently as I should.

the other thing with me is I really don't place too much stock on physical appearance. mine or yours. I will take a jab at person's appearance to gain an edge in a discussion if the need arises but truthfully I really don't care. I can find something beautiful and charming in any woman with which to make a sincere compliment and I'm not attracted to men.

once the effect of the shock of the paper bag thing wore off I was ah fuck, who cares? my wife loves me and we enjoy each other's company completely. what more does one need in life?

I'm with the Yanks on this one - thats a load of shite Scouse.

People can live there lives as they wish - if someone wants to smoke or drink or ride horses (very dangerous sport statistically) then thats their choice and why should they feel guilty about it.

Even if you lived your (extremely boring) life according to all available medical guidance you will still die and could even die early if your genetic number comes up.

So with that as a given theres no basis to start shaming people for choices you dont like.

You've mentioned this before but the question still stands as to when you actually intend to start doing it. If it's something you think you've been doing already then i'm sorry to tell you it's all in your own head and what everyone else has been seeing is a drooling retard who's only been humoured because it's amusing to see what ridiculous statement you'll come out with next.
will we ever meet in person? from my point of view only by accident. I will not be asking you for your information when I visit the UK next and if you were to visit miami I would not forward mine to you. with this statement I'm saying a lot because I will literally have a beer with just about anyone.

here's your final clue. I work steel. I'm a craftsman. I can take stock material and with hammer, anvil and forge fashion beautiful as well as functional items. I make elaborate gates for a living for the very well to do in my community.

now watch closely because here comes your clue. I could take you, bend you over a bench, place a piece of steel and fashion it with just the latter mentioned tools.

I bet you weren't expecting something quite as ridiculous as that, eh Krazeh? :)

No, but I think it wins both in terms of sheer ridiculousness and in making no sense what so ever. It is good to see he's living upto everything you could hope for from him.

Lots of stuff, I kinda expected and it's a fair point

Yup. I knew that some people on here wouldn't like me having a pop at "fatties". But I'll elaborate my thinking.

I used to be one. Got to about 16.5-17 stone. (I'm 6'2"). I'm at 13 now, which is in the upper part of the range for my ideal healthy weight.

When I was fat I used to make all the excuses in the world for my own actions, but that's exactly what it was. Excuses for myself.

I stopped being such a pussy and started exercising and eating properly and I now find it easy to maintain a healthy weight.

Despite what ignorant yankboy says about English food being "bland" - the food available in England is just like that in the United States, with the rest of the world's lovely stuff available too (curries-a-go-go for example).

I think that the pressure to make a profit by selling "food" is the main problem here (created by capitalism - who gives a fuck if "food" is actually "poison" as long as retards buy it - if we pack it full of salt and sugar to balance the flavour out it becomes physically addictive, whilst being dangerous). But nothing's going to happen about that - the only solution is self discipline.

It's very easy to lose weight if you're up-front and honest about the reasons you're fat in the first place. I realised I should be ashamed of myself for failing to look after myself properly.

I lost my 4+ stone in 6 months and never put it back on again because I didn't try to hide from the facts I presented.

My girlfriends father had his first two heart attacks this weekend. He used to come up with all the same tired excuses like "you can die early if your genetic number comes up".

With his two daughters in tears in front of him this weekend he realised that it's selfish. His shit eating habits have been passed on to his kids - so he's failed in his responsibility as a parent to ensure the best possible life for his children.

Facing up to shame is a great motivating factor. Hiding from it is what the continued fat do.

Have I considered that what I've posted is cruel? Yes. It is. But I've come to the decision that the lesser evil is being cruel to be kind.

Man up. Stop being fat, you lazy fucks. :)

so you're kind of like a smith? cool. one of my most fave documentaries was about Japanese sword smiths, specifically about how they smelt metal the old fashioned way and layer iron and steel. very interesting, very beautiful work.

Bollocks.

I'll perhaps expand upon that later when I can be bothered but I had an early start today and getting up at 9:30 is just not natural.

It's a fair and well reasoned point that nath. ;)

But seriously. I'm more than aware that my stance on this can cause a lot of very personal upset - and I hesitated to click "submit" for quite a while.

However, I figured "fuck it - lets have this one out".

I "believe" that if I didn't think the way I do about healthy eating, exercise and being fat the way I do now, I'd still be fat.

After deciding to settle on this as my viewpoint my life has become immeasurably better. Do you think I should not share this with you simply because it could be offensive to you?

I notice that there's been probably less resistance to the casual racism and homophobia from the yanks in this thread. Everyone's getting pissy about this because people don't like to be shown a mirror. If we can do reasoned argument over homophobia and racism we can do reasoned argument over fat.

Woah there nelly, you totally jumped the gun there and assumed what my point was going to be and then countered it before I had a chance to make it. You didn't offend me (and I am still a bit of a porker, though significantly less than I used to be) but I pretty strongly disagree with your point. It's interesting that you found a tactic that helped you lose weight and feel it must automatically apply to everyone else and that it's clearly the best method.

When I was a major fattyboombatty (as my brother would call me :D) I absolutely loathed myself, however that didn't even begin to help me lose weight. In fact quite the opposite, and it's when I became more comfortable in my own skin that I was able to get off my arse, do some exercise and eat a bit better. Basically the polar opposite to what worked for you.

I also think your thing about parents is a load of old tosh, I've not seen you say that parents that smoke (even if not around their kids) should be ashamed/disgusted with themselves. It strikes me that you're projecting your own feelings about yourself when you were fat on to other people.

Additionally, losing weight is easy for some, a challenge for others and fucking hard for some people. You can put it down to low will power, poor diet or whatever but I find it surprising for someone as seemingly intelligent as you are that you'd assume what works for you will obviously work for everyone else.

edit: oh and yeah strikes me that we did jump on intolerance (such a naff word) earlier in the thread. I feel I more than adequately pointed out how fucking stupid the yanks homophobic attitudes were.

I expected reasoned argument. Not "bollocks".

I've put my hands up and acknowleged that what I've said has great potential to upset people, whilst saying that, on a personal level I feel I have to think like that or I'll become fat again.

I don't treat fat people any differently from anyone else. My own girlfriend was technically classed as "morbidly obese" when I started going out with her (although now she's just moderately overweight, because she's taking on some of my eating habits).

So I'm hardly "intolerant". I'm expressing an "intellectual viewpoint". Stop getting pissy because you're fat, and respond in kind please.

You apparently take offense to his "brazen" attitude. You obviously feel he should acknowledge his slight to the human race. The fact that you pointed out your disgust with his lack of acknowledgment is your requirement for an apology. I look at it nothing more than a Freudian slip pointing towards your end justifies the means, my body is community property European socialist indoctrination.

As to your other point...

Huxley on agnosticism-
When I reached intellectual maturity, and began to ask myself whether I was an atheist, a theist, or a pantheist; a materialist or an idealist; a Christian or a freethinker, I found that the more I learned and reflected, the less ready was the answer; until at last I came to the conclusion that I had neither art nor part with any of these denominations, except the last. The one thing in which most of these good people were agreed was the one thing in which I differed from them. They were quite sure that they had attained a certain "gnosis"--had more or less successfully solved the problem of existence; while I was quite sure I had not, and had a pretty strong conviction that the problem was insoluble. And, with Hume and Kant on my side, I could not think myself presumptuous in holding fast by that opinion ...
So I took thought, and invented what I conceived to be the appropriate title of "agnostic". It came into my head as suggestively antithetic to the "gnostic" of Church history, who professed to know so much about the very things of which I was ignorant; and I took the earliest opportunity of parading it at our Society, to show that I, too, had a tail, like the other foxes. [Quoted in Encylopaedia of Religion and Ethics, 1908, edited by James Hastings MA DD]
Huxley was delighted to find that the name "agnostic" stuck; he proceeded to expand upon what he meant by it.
Agnosticism, in fact, is not a creed, but a method, the essence of which lies in the rigorous application of a single principle. That principle is of great antiquity; it is as old as Socrates; as old as the writer who said, 'Try all things, hold fast by that which is good'; it is the foundation of the Reformation, which simply illustrated the axiom that every man should be able to give a reason for the faith that is in him, it is the great principle of Descartes; it is the fundamental axiom of modern science. Positively the principle may be expressed: In matters of the intellect, follow your reason as far as it will take you, without regard to any other consideration. And negatively: In matters of the intellect, do not pretend that conclusions are certain which are not demonstrated or demonstrable. That I take to be the agnostic faith, which if a man keep whole and undefiled, he shall not be ashamed to look the universe in the face, whatever the future may have in store for him.
Beautiful, init?

Now who's the sensitive one? As I said, bollocks was all I could be bothered to muster at that moment, human beings are not supposed to get up so early. However, if you look up you'll see I've put across a more rational response.

Either way, you seem to have an awfully sandy vagina on this subject despite accusing other people of being potentially offended...

Wasn't having a big pop nath. And I wasn't particularly annoyed by your "bollocks" response (it made me laugh).

Sorry if it comes off that way. It's not meant like that.

Maybe I should put a disclaimer on the bottom of all of my posts saying something like "*personal opinion only, doesn't have to be listened to".

I'm just being straight with what I feel. Nobody has to feel like me if they don't want to, but it's worked for me :)

Yes. I'm completely aware that people often respond better to being made to feel good about themselves. However, I feel that discounting anger as a motivation is possibly missing a trick.

I can't remember the exact quote (actually about injustice), but it goes something like "depressed people retreat into their shells, angry people do something about it".

I think it can apply in this case. :)

Seriously, give it up, you lost that argument when you were completely unable to demonstrate how we weren't atheist or indeed that you could tell the difference between not believing in dieties and believing that dieties didn't exist.

I haven't, honestly. I'm happily enjoying the debate old bean :)

I defended myself from accusations of "intolerance" the only way I know how - by telling you I went out with a biffa :D

As for this:

Huxley on agnosticism-

I'm not agnostic (for the millionth time).

If anything the closest term for me would be "faithless".

Yes, I know, you're religious and can't comprehend the concept of a lack of faith. It's not your fault and I don't hold it against you. I pity you for it - and that is me being serious and not trying to offend.

I'm sure your tactic would work for a number of people, my exception was your apparent attitude that it worked for you ergo it's the most appropriate method/mindset. That's what I was calling bollocks on.

Faithless is good, but surely the definition of weak atheist/de facto atheist is spot on?

Furry muff. Point taken.

Personally, I do think it's the best tactic. 'cause I know it's worked in my case and the weight of western populations (particularly in heavily pro-capitalist regimes) is spiralling out of control with no signs of abatement. However, I acknowledge it's not the only tactic and wouldn't wish to force people to have to use it :)

I kind of like what you're getting at, but I also think we're almost asking to be shot at.

Atheism was a greek term that over the centuries has changed subtly in meaning from what yankboy thinks it means to what we know it means. IMHO, because of the vagaries and inadequacies of the English language it's difficult to communicate exactly what you mean.

I see communication between two humans using English (or any language) like this:

It's two brains, attempting to communicate using an inexact medium that, by it's very nature, scuppers true understanding. English is like treacle, if you like :)

I wonder where you've gotten the notion that I am somehow religious? I've stated over and over that I am agnostic. You have stated such also but someone along the line told you that agnosticism is "soft" (lol) atheism...

Agnosticism isn't soft atheism. I'm well aware of all the terms and their exact meaning.

Apologies for stating you're religious. I must be mistaken. I'm not conciously keeping tabs which of the yanks believe what in this thread, simply assuming Christian Hickness of you all.

However, why are you having such a hard time accepting I'm not agnostic?

You see you've got yourself confused again, agnosticism requires some level of concious thought about the nature of the existence of higher powers, in particular whether or not we can ever know if higher powers truly exist. Atheism simply requires you to not hold the belief they do exist.

To me the question of whether or not it's possible to know if higher powers exist is irrelevant, it makes no difference to my views. Based on all the current evidence we have, I do not believe they exist; any thought beyond that is of no consequence and is therefore not something I engage in. To put it simpler I do not care whether or not the existence of a higher power is something we can ever know, all I care about is that based on current evidence there is no basis for holding the belief that higher powers do exist.

You do come across as a bit of anti-fattie zealot Scouse, and I'd have had you down as a lot of things (communist, politically naive, thieving scally, you know, the usual ;)) but not intolerant.

NB.There was one telling line in your self-description; 6 foot summat and 13 stone (and still thinking you're at the high end of acceptable). You've fallen for the whole BMI bullshit mate. Weight to Height ratios, are, to coin a phrase I heard recently, bollocks.
