I've never understood this idea of feeling guilty for things that you had nothing to do with but if there was such a thing then America - a country built on the back of slave labour would surely be high on the list and lets not forget the centuries of segregation that followed the abolition - Negro Leagues Baseball anyone?

actually, I was looking up apologies for slave trading 200 years or more ago. it seems our respective countries have actually felt remorse and have apologized for trading in slaves. goodness gracious me, who would have thought! though tbh, while I know there was talk of a formal Dutch apology, and I searched diligently I failed to find a link to it :/

We do still have segregation but the majority of it self-imposed segregation in which black Americans hold themselves separate from mainstream society. They have their own dialect and ghettos and often, to their detriment, refuse to do business with white people. The funny thing is, while it is highly illegal for a white person to not do business with blacks, it is perfectly acceptable and encouraged for blacks to segregate themselves from and discriminate against whites.

Perhaps you should take another look at the definition of atheism it provides. Particularly the first one where it states "One who denies or disbelieves the existence of a God". Please tell me how, given I disbelieve in the existence of a God, the OED agrees with your stance that i'm not an atheist? At best all the definition Tom posted does is demonstrate that you could possibly argue that the term "agnostic" could be used to further define the nature of some people's atheism, but they remain atheist first and foremost.
