The 'Up' thread got me thinking.

What films out there were wither rumoured to be good, allegedly good, every one raved (but you) was good but ended up being a steaming pile of overrated turd?

Indiana 4 gets my vote. I'll be buying the blu-ray quadrilogy and throwing that one in the bin.

aye, I felt a bit let down by Indy4

Saw as well. load of bollocks. HORROR FILMS ARE NOT JUST 90 MINUTES OF GRATUITOUS VIOLENCE PEOPLE.

Jumper - good idea, wasted 3 hours of my life going to see it at the cinema.

I even went through watching it again just in case and same reaction. I don't see the whole OMFG its awesome vibe some people have with it!

One of those films retards are like "omg you wont understand it first time you watch it".

sighhhhhhhhhhh

Yes this exactly! Every time I say it sucked they tell me to go back and watch it again; which I don't want to do...because it sucked.

Every single LOTR film.

Christ.

An atrocity of film making that's now inflicted upon whole families every christmas.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Guy Ritchie should not be making films. Ever.

I liked Sin City. On the other hand, Mulholland Drive....meh. Also, any action film where people say "it's an action film, just sit back with your pop-corn!". Action doesn't excuse you from a decent story just because you have whole cities blowing up.

recent movies: knowing, gamer and the invention of lying all sucked.

Supposed classics: 2001 a space odyssey, any of the godfather movies (I'm with Peter Griffin on that one), Donnie darko and any James Bond movie that isn't goldeneye or casino royale, lol I could go on.

anyone who says the LOTR and godfather (atleast the first 2) films were bad movies cant be taken seriously

Conversely, anyone who thinks a film with Orlando Bloom is good can't be taken seriously either :).

normally i would agree, but his lines were limited (relatively) in this one (or three) so, for me its an exception to the rule.

those films were epic in every sense of the word, people here are the first people i have heard speaking negatively of them.

I know lots of people that didn't think they were that special, I love them, but them I like that kind of fantasy film and like the books.

I'll give you the second Lord of the Rings film. It was Peter Jackson's sole creation, with a few names borrowed from the books. But the other two films in the trilogy were excellent.

That is a point actually.

Star Wars, the 3 new movies.

The first 3 I found average, nothing worship worthy.

fair enough, point taken. i can understand people not liking them because of the genre or whatever but i cant get how someone can say they are bad films.

i cant get onboard with westerns at all, dont think i've ever actually watched one the whole way through, but i still appreciate the good the bad and the ugly (as an example) for what it was / is.

anyway apologies for the thread derailing

Transformers 2, 1 wasn't great either, but 2 got way too much good "press". Though, after watching it on TV, it seemed better. Must be meant for a smaller screen.

Juno is my all time favorite "hate list" for the hype alone.

I know people will hate me for saying this, but; starwars 4,5,6.

It has that "oldie goldie" feel ofcourse, but as a movie trilogy? Well...it's not exactly great.

Also could add many modern "comedies" like year 1. Humor doesn't quite cope with the Naked gun era. Though britain, well, good for you, you seem to keep a good standard in good comedy; the time travel(frequently asked questions of some such) was brilliant.

I would say Dark Knight, but Joker saved that. Though Joker always saves a batman movie, even if will ferrel played joker. The character just makes it excellent.

Hohum...what else...well, have to get back on that.

Yes, my peer group were all "ZOMG JUNO, GET THAT OUT" - so I even paid the extra dorrah for blu-ray and ended up thinking "this is the most overrated turd I've ever seen".

As for Donnie Darko - I want to like it, it's arty, I've tried to watch it a couple of times and still had to google for some more info on it. It's a clever yet flawed film, it just wasn't done justice by plugging the "what the fuck?" element to it.

I'd rather watch a sad funeral forever than have to watch Star Wars 1, 2 and 3.
