Sir (Ernie) Ernest William Titterton was born in Tamworth. He was a research officer for the British Admiralty during World War II before becoming in 1943 a member of the British mission to the U.S. to participate in the Manhattan Project which developed the atomic bomb. He was knighted in 1970.
Former The Teardrop Explodes frontman and solo artist/writer Julian Cope was raised in Tamworth and later lived in nearby Drayton Bassett. Cope recorded three solo albums during his Tamworth years, 'World Shut Your Mouth' (1984), 'Fried' (1984) and 'Saint Julian' (1987), and all three used various locations around Tamworth for their sleeve art and several videos. The heavy rock band Wolfsbane cut their teeth in the town, before their lead singer Blaze Bayley went on to front the legendary Iron Maiden. Rock guitarist Clem Clempson was born in Tamworth. The Pop/Rock band Everybody Looks Famous started out in Tamworth, the band have been growing in popularity and have gone on to play the Midlands Music Festival on 8 August 2009 and 18 July 2010. Structures, the enigmatic Post-Rock band also call the town their home. Tamworth has an active music scene, which circulates to some degree around The Skull Club and Tamworth Bands (also known as 'Tambands') websites although both receive much criticism from many in the town.

Roger Moore.
Tess somethingorother Javelin thrower
Ronnie Barker
Churchill went to Harrow School as did a few other MP's and famous figures.

All I can think of at the moment.

Okay he was only passing through, but suprised it misses one of the more famous ex-residents:

Errol Flynn

He was there less for a year, but it was the beginning of his acting career and in his biography (quite a read) he states it was the happiest time of his life.

Grimsby Town, suppose it's not too bad for the shithole:

Thomas Turgoose (lead actor, This Is England)
Julie Peasgood (actress, Brookside, Birds Eye adverts)
Patricia Hodge (actress, Life and Loves of a She-Devil) - went to school with my mum
John Hurt (actor, strickly speaking Cleethorpes next-door)
Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr (Soham Murderers) - at least one went my school, couple years younger than me don't remember them, thank god.
Normal Lamont (ex-chancellor of the exchequer) - saw him once going back home on the train, so props to him for using public transport. Can't see bumping into George Osbourn/Gordon Brown, etc.
Bernie Taupin (songwriter to Elton John in the 70s)

Too much spare time at work.

Don't know about town, but when I was growing up ( aged 11 to 16) had the Manager of Everton 20 doors to the left, Carl Critchlow of Judge Dredd/2000ad fame 10 doors to the right & Ian Mcculloch ( Echo from the bunnymen) a few doors down from him ! Got to know the manager & artist, but not the (as i though !) morbid spotty black clad weirdo.

His last practice where he killed all those old people is 1 mile away from where I live and he visited our family home once on a home visit in the mid to late 1990's. Only found out last week that my local shopkeeper is the son of one of his confirmed victims as well, poor fella. :(
