Steam based games seem to be a pain in the ass for that. I've had a couple that have done the same thing.

On a different note , im really enjoying this game , is the rest of the Fallout series like this?

Might consider buying them if they are.

vegas is pretty much Fallout 3.5, so yes
1 and 2 are top-down RPGs , and tactics is a tactical squad game
1+ 2 are classics with very good dark humour, but are showing their age, and play differently :)

You failed to mention the biggest flaw with those games...

They are turn-based....

Fallout 3 is pretty much the same !

Playing New Vegas at the moment as a melee build, good fun.

When i played yesterday the game must have frozen at least 10 times forcing a full restart of my ps3 each time. Today, played for probably the same duration and not one freeze, how strange. Some mad lag in one of the casinos though :(

Get the odd crash on the PC too, usually when buying/selling lots of items in one go, being a bit of a scavenger I do a lot of that, pick an area, clear it out of mobs then rinse it of items it gets a bit annoying. I just have to quick save before I interact with the merchant.

One thing that is good is the load times, from clicking on the game link to actually playing is about 30 seconds. It was the same in the original fallout.

Absolutely loving New Vegas, I enjoyed FO3 but it has nothing on this, I am already planning my next character type and choice of quest lines/factions.

I am currently a god amongst the NCR but I think I will go legion next time. I also wasted the Brotherhood of Steel pretty much as soon as met them, their guns looked too good to resist but turned out crap, except the gause rifle. Next time I will complete their quests before killing them all

for those wishing a more novel approach , i suggest stealth-frag build

basically:
sneak up on someone
pickpocket them
put a grenade/landmine/cap bomb in their inventory
scuttle away
"aargh what the fuck is that.." *bang*
and you dont count as attacking them, unless you get spotted
its also an insta-kill most of the time

needs good pickpocket/stealth/explosives

Yes they are, although I prefer the previous instalment to this one. The faction system is a very novel addition to the Fallout games but it does rather frustrate my efforts to complete all quests. Also some of the things you have to do to advance the game really didn't sit well with me and seemed out of character.

With reasonably high stealth you can still abuse the AI that hasnt really been improved since Oblivion, ie

Sneak around a bunch of guys, find a spot where you can only see (and be seen by) one of them and shoot them in the back of the head. No one notices, no one cares and you can simply repeat until they whole lot are dead

Also, rather silly that you can use the grab button (to hold stuff in front of you) to take items out of sight of NPCs before looting them to steal with impunity

I loved that about them though!
I was kind of hoping Fallout3 would be the same...they have given it a completely different feel to it

I don't like the AMR. You need either 2 more points of strength or an extra feat (Weapon Handling) to use it over the standard sniper rifle. I built my character around critical hits, so luck 7, Born to Destroy trait (+3% crit, +15% weapon condition damage), Finesse feat and 1st Recon beret. This gives 20% crit rate, the sniper rifle is x5 = 100% crit rate. Makes the game a bit easy tbh. The legendary deathclaw is the toughest enemy in the game, and takes two headshots to kill.

You clearly haven't met Caesar's lot.

I've finished the game. I don't get your point.

Praetorian Guard - DT 22, HP 270
Legendary Deathclaw - DT 30, HP 850

Ceasers lot were piss easy,
ran in with the assault carbine, killed a couple of guards in the tent, legged it and picked them off one by one, in saying that I didn't do any quests for them I just killed them on site so don't know if you meet any tough ones later on

There are a couple "officers", including Caesar himself that use melee powerfists - they hit like a sack of bricks, worse than a DeathClaw ever will.

I played the PS3 version recently of New Vegas, I can't believe how buggy it still is after six months and something like five patches.
