ok, I'm unleashing a formula on a number. the numbers change, but the answer to the formula is always the same. excel is not running it against the new number, but is displaying the output of the first number. what gives?

example:
Code:
number formula what excel says what excel should say
124532232              =(C2/1024)           121613.5078                      121613.5078
92673936                =(C3/1024)           121613.5078                      90501.89063

what gives?

Are you 100% sure your formula has been entered correctly ? Is 'C3' just a number or is it derived from something ?

Also have you got it automatically calculating all the time? There's an option to have it only recalculate when you ask it to.

I don't know :(

I solved it by opening a new instance of Excel, and copying everything over :/

This definitly sounds like the problem. Excel defaults to automatic calculation when a blank book is opened up so that fits in with the solution as well. Though how you got to manual calculation is the odd thing, it's not something you could do by accident really as it's tucked away in the options menus.
