Mm
Agree with the last post TBH, the game has changed, you even as a solo can find out what is happening in RVR, all be it delayed and I think that is the main issue.
TBH even with the two main old alliances (HOF entered a little later), originals were CBA and CF, there was issues, and the way around it was through /send. That system still exists and tbh if there is something that needs whole of HIb, pretty soon whole of hib knows..
As for what concerns me more tbh - is the fall in numbers from the larger guilds, is this really happening or are people off doing exams etc? Just it worries me that I can consistently do a /who Celtic Fist or a /who Terra and get a return of 5-6 people on-line.. the rest /anon? or just busy in rl?
The realm needs large guilds - why: Well larger raids are important and the game does sometimes need a HIB army to help sort the balance in RVR (Keeps /Relics etc) I mean and that ... lets face it, is so much easier to organise if you have a guild that is leading it.. who can control the players within the guild - that is what a guild is for, people working for a common good/goal, and to be honest people & their style of play tend to suit a particular guild so they join and make more friends who have same style/way etc.. all a guild does is structure accountability and set guidelines (hence Officer structure & GM'S). Now on a big raid it is so much easier to lead it if you are "only" leading an army of people who are willing to follow your instructions - hence bigger guild = more success at raids (ok not all the time, but it helps).
An alliance just builds on this. But tbh with the tools we have now 95% of RVR issues can be sorted by a guild (cough alliance) that can put 2-3 grps out.
Just my 2 pence worth - btw Ex Gm of DA... who were heavily involved in the original CBH alliance and then moved to the CF alliance and who remain in that alliance.
