It's not bad, but I prefer your original effort.

I went for a similar process, but I processed the RAW twice and then blended two images together in Photoshop. I then used selective midtone burn and then highlight dodge on the rocks to give them more microcontrast and punch. Finally, I cloned the burned spot in the sky as that was a distraction.

I see you're both getting the same problem I was getting with the glowing around the mountain ridges

Just a simple B&W conversion and tweak here, nothing fancy. 5 min job.
