Duke Nukem Forever

I've spent all day playing the full version of Duke Nukem. Absolutely wonderful, really took me back to my teens. Boobs, guns, aliens, it has it all.

Obviously I'm talking about the proper Duke game, and not that POS that's about to come out. I've spent the money refunded from my cancelled pre-order on something useful instead.

speaking of old games you should try doom with Jdoom its so epic.

Just came across this whilst looking at DNF. I am now actually more excited by this remake than the official Duke game. Is that bad?

It's a bit pants isn't it? Didn't like the feel of the controls at all and the game itself didn't impress me one bit. Graphics are nothing special by today's standard.

Its just the two weapon thing and health regen that bugs me the most, hopefully modders can change it so you can have more than two weapons and maybe a mod that allows health packs. Its one of the reason I am worrying about the new Deus Ex, thats got regen health. Regen health makes games far too easy. Theres nothing quite like the feeling of defeating a boss or level with 1% health left. Just replaying through Serious Sam HD and love the fact you need health packs.

Health packs are relics from the 1980s.

Hopefully next we can get rid of boss pattern attacks as the only method of defeating them.

Too many gaming conventions are kept for no reason other than lack of ideas.

Don't think I'll bother with Duke, sounds fucking shit.

An exact copy of the original game with update graphics (ala Black Mesa/DN Reloaded) would have been a million times better. New audience and all that.

I'd consider myself more a console gamer these days but an excuse like that really boils my piss. Pressing say, RB and using the right analogue to select a weapon would've been fine. Hell simply using the RB to scroll through would've been fine.

Duke 3d was a reasonable game, back when there wasnt a lot of choice, and its sense of humour was ace, if you were 15...
now i really dont think its going to cut the mustard in todays market of so many top notch, and otherwise, shooters, with its "LOL BEWBS"

im avoiding it like the plague , until i am told by someone i trust that it isnt a huge pile of ambulatory afterbirth

from watching that it sounds exactly the same as a lot of complaints I here about recent MMO's. developers seem scared to innovate now we've lost all the "bedroom" development teams.

they just take the bits from everyone else's games they think were popular and stick their badge on it. its all crap.

the list of games i'd buy gets smaller and smaller as new titles come out, everythings just a bit meh!

I got it for free and I must say I agree with 100% of what TotalBiscuit said, its just one big pile of gash and the people who worked on it should be fired and banned from the gaming industry forever.

Gameplay is terrible, graphics are ok considering, story is abit naff, game is short, levels are poorly designed, can only carry 2 guns, very easy and obviously dumbed down for the masses of console users, in short its just Halo with a witty main character.

Big disappointment all in all, especially for how long they've spent on it.

not got round to playing it yet but makes you wonder wtf the orignal devs had been doing, gearbox did just try and make it playable in a short space of time and released it.

I feel really dirty for admitting it, but I'm quite enjoying it. Then again, I'm treating it as some kind of B-movie style game. It doesn't play great or even look great, the some of the shit in the environment and what the guys come out with is quality.

Wow, watching those youtube vids was depressing.

But it made me realise why I get so bored so quick with so many games these days and I never noticed why... Because there all way to slow, cut scenes, and a one way path to the end.


Come to think about it I can't remember the last fps I played that wasn't like it so much... Maybe half life 2 in some respects, and thats about 5 years old now.

Problem these days all games are built for wank shitty consoles and every other platform is that ported from that. It used to be, made for pc then dulled down so the consoles could cope with it, which no one ever complained about. But these days it looks like the developers woulda rather save time by just starting with a shit game they can't improve due to console limitations and I fucking hate it.
