my weight was 74 kilo when I got back from backpacking for a month. basically walking and not eating much for four weeks.
In september I started going to the gym alot more and now i'm at 80-81 kilo... (my height is only 1.80 meter though!)

sadly, the 6 kilo's I gained are notonly muscle. so my goal to reach is 76 kilos :( sooo not going to happen if I keep doing all those weights. and cardio is so dull.

Not to belittle anyones efforts but you dont need fancy diets, medications, creams and any other bullshit which is not one of these two things -

diet
exercise

I went from just under 20st (48" waist) to 12.5st (32" waist) and I did nothing but exercise more and eat less.

Stop eating cakes, move your body a bit more and thats all you need.

the exercise part is easy for me, the diet part is not. in the summer i tend to move a lot, biking around and playing basketball, only between 2 periods of moving around i tend to drink a load of beer which cancels it out. and i wont lose weight. so i guess i can testify that just exercise without dieting wont help you lose weight

If you are training hard - very hard like I am at the moment - the correct diet is vital. Back a few weeks ago I was chronically fatigued all the time. I put it down to my high mileage but I couldn't shake it off. I then read up on my dietary requirements with regard to running and increased my carbohydrates until I was eating 60-80%. I am now running and training much harder and am amazed how much energy I have. I was trying to run hard and only eating fruit and salads before to try and lose weight. Stupid of me really and I should have known better.

If you want a good website to read up on running mainly, fitness and diet this is a great website to view - Time To Run

Regard Thugs (mini Charles Atlas - body building guy if you are a bit young to know he was)

Aye, and it saddens me to see poeple buy books like 'how to lose weight in 3 days eating nothing bust dust' or other useless articles such as that. It is money better spent on a gym membership, or some running trainers, or a bicycle, or anything that will actually make a difference!

My camera looks great when I view my screen but the damn photos end up a different colour. If someone knows how to fix this plz pass the info on.

While I agree completely with the top bit (there is no magic get fit quick pill/diet whatever) I have to disagree with the "stop eating cakes" matey.

I find that I am happier and more motivated to workout and will stick to eating well if I can deviate occasionally and either have a little treat (i.e. choccy bar or cookie) or the very occasional all out and out gutzoid fest (huge chinese takeaway, pizza whatever) and not feel guilty about it.

If I deny myself that then I get thoroughly miserable, have no urge to exercise (or do anything else really) and become a real bastard. Ultimately that doesn't do anyone any good and tbh wtf is the point in being alive if you look great but are miserable? If I couldn't eat junk (even just a little bit, once a week) I'd rather just croak it tbh.

May not be the same for everyone but it is easier to accomlish something if you don't feel short changed while doing it imo.

btw well done everyone, nice to see folk stickin with it :D

also is there any chance of stickying this thread? I mean its one that we dig up monthly and it is a pain hunting it down.

That was not meant to be literally stop eating cakes. Its more like dont eat so much that you dont lose weight and do more exercise.

That is, in general, dont eat a load of shit and wonder why nothing is happening.

My missus eats nothing literally (although what she does eat is good stuff :)) and jogs 4-5 times a week, on top of leading a busy work schedule (works 5 days a week - often with the pleasure of young children) but is finding it extremely hard to get rid of some weight she put on a while ago.

Weird thing is - she is so much better both diet-wise and exercise-wise then when she put it on.

Very weird tbh.

Apparently to lose weight you shouldn't starve yourself but eat regularly. If you try to go without food you mess your metabolism up. What happens then is the body thinks it is being starved and won't need so much food. You are shooting yourself in the foot by doing so. It is far better to eat often and exercise often. The exercise will boost your metabolism.

Nearly always when someone says they can't lose weight their intake is more than their body needs. She should write down exactly what she does eat during the day. The reason for the lack of weight loss will become apparent by doing so for sure. It always does unless there is a medical problem - underactive thyroid or something. These medical problems are few and far between though.

As for eating a cake now and then well I have my can of cold beer after a hard run - I really enjoy it!

Like said above, she's not eating much so her brain thinks she is starving, thus will simply not eat into the fat resources.

:( oh why cant sugar and saturated fat just be good for you

Some amount of saturated fat is good for you and required for a healthy diet, regardless of what Ryvita tell you.

I am becoming a bit of a food guru. Fats extracted from animals ain't good for you. Fats from fish and nuts for instance are good for you. There are 2 very different types of fats. The way I look at it the best diet is a vegetarian diet. Such a diet I will most likely adopt as I am practically there already. If you picture a hot tub of saturated animal fat - lard - in a container looking nice and molten which is then poured onto a cold surface to congeal it looks nasty to say the least. That is more or less what animal fat is doing to your arteries. Not good! We need fat but not this nasty stuff. Makes you think eh?

Losing weight is extremely easy... most of it is mental toughness and will power. I train a lot of people around my local area when I have time off work and help them lose weight. And they get the results if they eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly.

AFAIK it is wise to avoid vegetable fats.
