Its been about 4-5yrs since i last played DaoC properly, though i do have a lvl50 Mana Chanter on Lamorak somewhere, but ill be damned if i can remember the account details. So it would mean starting from scratch again.

Having read posts on here, i understand Devon would be the best choice of server to play on?

Before i take the plunge and start lvling yet another DaoC char, id like to know if theres any point, or has DaoC had its day and the PvP isnt as exciting as it once use to be. From reading your posts though, it would imply its just as fun as it always was.

Next would be realm and char choice, i was always partial to Albion, as i loved the Sorc Theurg and Cabalist classes, how do these classes perform now and how does Albion perform as a realm, they are they still the Zerg train they use to be?

Im thinking of doing a Cabalist and/or Theurg because i never got them to 50 before, Cabby got to 42 and i think my Theurg got to lat 30s, how do they stand up in PvP these days?

Since i dont know anyone anymore, it would be basically soloing during the daytime, because since ive got a family, evenings and night times arent an option for me anymore.

Any help and pointers would be appreciated!

The action is great atm, real good fun at most times. Alb has its fair share of 8mans and zergs as always :D. Cabby is a brilliant class, the same as theurgs there wanted for grps most the time and solo reasonably well. Action is brilliant all the round as the server goes at a minimum around 680 and peaks at 2100.

Thanks for the reply

Have the classes changed the much in terms of "speccing". My previous Cabby was Spirit/Body spec and my THeurg i believe was Air are these still good?

Guessing ive got a lot of reading up to do, if i start again, no clue on ML or CL levels

Any decent websites you could point me too?

How about making money always remember it was hard to make any decent money unless you was a crafter turning DF seals into bars then into hinges lol.

The main reason i want to play DaoC again is the PvP, nothing has ever come close to DaoCs PvP, though i will admit im not a fan of the New Frontiers, but cant have everything as they say.

So bearing in mind most of my time will probably be done solo, how easy will it be to get the gear i need to compete in PvP without being frustrated to hell and back.

Thanks again for any help :)

If you're going to run a buffbot account, there are a number of ways you can very easily make money. If you're going to play Albion, the economy is actually dirt cheap due to both the Albion dragon being so easy (Dragon's wield some of the best loot nowadays) and Albion being so overpopulated. Despite Albion having the highest population on the cluster, by far; Most of it is a mindless zerg that goes from tower to tower PvE'ing for RP's, Mid & Hib have the strongest PUG's and there isn't as many Albion 8 man's as there perhaps should be. Overall though, no matter what realm you play you'll find action regardless.

As for spec's, Air Theurg's are still decent but Earth was buffed severly. I'd recommend you download Charplan as it's up-to-date with all the new styles/spells whereas most websites are not.

As for how easy it'd be to gear up - All depends on your personal requirements, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to gear and it took me 2-3 days (playing a lot) to obtain the "best" template for my first character, the rest went a lot quicker due to the amount of spare items I had after obtaining my first template. I've got 5 chars templated now and about 500p sitting around after a month of playing, just to give you some view of how easy it is if you know how - I have put a lot of time in though :p

Champion Level information; http://www.classesofcamelot.com/dr/ChampLevels.asp (To summarize; there's 10 champion levels, every level your HP increases depending on your archetype; heavy tanks get more hp/champion than a caster does for example. There's also Champion Weapon's which a couple of classes would want to use in their template, especially if you don't want to fork out for a Dragon weapon, there's also a small talent tree and you gain 1 specialization point per champion level, these you spend on grey spells and they're only really important for solo'ing in RvR or for specific classes in 8v8, the main things are 10% Resist buffs, 5% Melee buff (1m, 5m RUT), Disease, Cure Disease & Minor healing.

Master Level encounters are extremely easy now and every encounter can be done with 1 full group, there are also regular master level raids meaning you can complete ML 1-9 in one day if you so wished.

Hmmm wasnt going to run a buffbot account this time, so i would be starting from the very beginning with no knowledge of how the game works now.

So basically its back to being a "noob"

As for Albion well its the realm which has the classes i enjoyed most last time i played, Sorc Theurg and Cabalist, though i did orignally start DaoC when it was very 1st released as Hib, with the very 1st Light Enchanter on the realm when they was frowned upon :)

I would llike to have some challenges in my gameplay never been 1 for following the Zerg train, would like to be able to solo in RvR but also be part of a group setup if i made friends along the way or found a Guild.

Found an old account, which is closed atm, is there anyway of finding out whats on the account?
If its the lvl50 Chanter account, ill be playing Hib, but dont really want to renew the sub on the account if theres nothing on it.

Thanks again, will look into this Charplan.

Lamorak is part of the classic cluster though (where you had your chanter).

Devon is the biggest ToA cluster on US atm and thats where most people play.

The only possible way is to contact Mythic support via phone, they can give you what's on your account if you can provide them with account name and SQ/A; you just have to hope you get a friendly agent :)

In the future to avoid this you may want to use GimpChimp

From your posts its seems your mostly interested in casters but if you dont want a BB account i'd recommend playing a class that can buff itself, at least partially. The Heretic might be a good choice for you, a melee / focus caster hybrid who can also do small heals and has a selection of buffs. Or a friar, they seem reasonable solo and very strong in small man groups (2/3) if you can find people who regularly play when your online.

As for contacting Mythic, i have no clue about the secret Q/A though i do know my accounts username and password, so i might give it a bash

Hmmm are you saying that DaoC has got to such a state you cant compete unless youve got a buffbot?

I know when i played last i had 1, but it wasnt for merely personally use but for the RvR Guild i was Co-GM of, back then all the top 8v8 Guilds used them to try get that edge.

But you could still compete without 1, but sounds like now you actually need 1?

I was lvling a Friar before and quite enjoyed it, but yes your right, im more a caster man. Always wanted a Spirit/Body Cabby and Air Theurg but im still not sure whether to try DaoC again or if im just trying to reclaim the "good old days" lol

If you're not going to play a self-buffing class, you need a buffbot, no two ways about it. Whether that's you paying for a second account, leeching buffs or having access to someone elses, you need it :)

I suppose you could use buff pot's but that's a lot of effort

Hi chaps,

So basically US Devon cluster is where it's happening? Sounds like there are a few Alb ex-euro guilds but haven't seen anything for mid/hib?

Have found WAR end-game to be a serious let-down at the moment, so looks like I'll be starting over again on US. 4 yrs+ on Alb/Prydwen with absolutely no desire by GoA to get the numbers up.. leaves a bitter taste in the mouth to be honest.

So will see you on Devon.

Wow, I remembered my username/password for FH!

I've not played DAoC for years now but looking at the speclines on camelot herald it looks like a whole pile of classes now have extra buffs - eg hunters - and everything can get the CL buffs if they want with 10 champion levels. With a stardrop/similar +% buff gear, are they "good enough" to run without a buffbot? I expect they're not as good but I'd rather not have to pay for second account if I can avoid it. I'm thinking of about making one of thane/valky/skald/hunter.

Also, are there any nice ex-euro mid guilds running on Devon now? DAoC is downloading now and I have a fearful urge to get steamrollered repeatedly again by a zerg sometime soon. ;)

hehe, i still cant decide whether to take the plunge or not

If only Hib or Mid had better casters, a Mentalist might be interesting, though dont know how they compare these days

I'm playing an eld and as far as playing it goes its definatly the most fun i've played in game, if a tad overpowered! I do miss the days of bolt nuking on my fire wiz though.

Albion has always had the best choice of casters though if your not content with an eld or animist. I wont talk about mid because i've never enjoyed playing it.

On the BB issue you definatly need one or be a buffing class. I recently reopened my account but only my main account not my BB. My eld is basically getting eaten alive by encounters I'd be loving with a BB, this is with buff pots and at RR10 and all the privilages that entails!

Hey boys and girls, long time no see. Terra Dominus has been up for a month or so on Devon cluster (were on Gaheris first but was too quiet). Few of the oldschoolers are still around, though most of us haven't played for years until now. It's good fun. We're happy and a bit surprised to see that the server is pretty active.

Givf us a /wave ingame

That is sad to hear, i was hoping i could get away with not opening 2 accounts, since im not entirely sure about restarting DaoC again after all these years. But talking about Fire Wizards, that was my very char on Albion and i loved him to bits, most fun, infact he PL'ed all my chars from then on lol

Hehe yeah there is that part of me, that just says go for it

Though now im struggling which realm to start on but im thinking of Albion, for Cabby and/or Theurg, with maybe Friar or Cleric as BB, not sure which will be best though, i know in old days Cleric was better as BB, dont know if that has changed.

Then again part of me wants a loveable Luri Mentalist with a Druid bot, grrrrr decisions decisions

Ok finally decided on Alb and Theurg+BB (Devon), with a view to make a Cabalist at a later date if i get back into the swing of things.

Hopefully should be up and running sometime day or tomorrow.

Is quickest way to level via the Taskmasters/Instances?

Thanks again for all the help :)

Any suggestions which server to start on for Albion, in terms of European Guilds and helpful people, best RvR groups etc?

Advice on quickest way to lvl would be most appreciated, im guessing via the Taskmasters/Instances? (starting from scratch)

Can you lvl all the way to 50 this way?

Been along time since i lvled in this game, but would rather get to 50 (or late 40s) asap, then try to start working on my gear, so i can RvR asap, to get Bps for scrolls, MLs etc. Unless in the meantime i get myself into a Guild who helps out with all that stuff :)

Best way to make money, is it still through crafting or farming?

Thanks for any help, most appreicated!

Task Dungeons are crap in comparison. You get 200% xp in Frontiers (behind milegates is a good place to xp at 20). You also get 200% in Darkness Falls.

Classic zones give 150% xp so if you're a level 1 it may be best to start there.

Best way to make money is from One Time Drops...although you may want to keep some of these as they are very nice. Also dragon runs have some of the best loot in the game.

oh yeah, from 40-48 you can do a repeatable quest (takes 15 minutes and gives 2 bubs). At 48-50 you can do a Supplies quest (repeatable too) which gives really nice xp too!
