The video is in 640x480 with some MPEG video compression, that's why it looks so pixelated. A typical resolution when playing in games nowdays is 1680x1050 for example...

Then again it may well be a very old graphics engine, the vids look very similar to those released in 2005 and 2007. There is no guarantee that it'll run in higher resolutions.

The ingame movie show alot of potential tho If you remove all the aggrivation on the grafixs look at the nook with knockback or the archer in the tree.
Its somethings that give you a good fealing about the game imo, and aslo I know that there is no "MMORPG" stealth (inviisible characters) so basicly if you can hide from another player like (in a tree) and he wont notice you, your at an advantage.

NO levels and Full loot is quite intresting too imo.

Is it just me or does this video look a lot like the ones they released back in 2005? Doesn't look like the game has progressed at all since then, it's still very creaky rigid graphics, the models run like they have a broom-handle up their backsides and the animations look, well, limited and clunky tbh.

Also, does anyone else feel slightly creeped-out by the fact that when you die you writhe around on the floor for a bit? Seems somewhat unnecessary fluff to me, there is a reason this kind of crap isn't commonly used in mmorpg's, it has been tried, tested and rejected. I just get the impression DF is trying to do new things regardless of wether or not the ideas are aweful and pointless. New things are good, but not when it's eye-rollingly crappy.

I prefer to wait until it can be tried out. Graphics isn't everything. I mean MMOs like EQ and UO still have a playerbase that still enjoys those games, even with updates it's less than the DF visuals.

There's not alot of games that are supposed to give you that much freedom.

no ofc not. but if i meet one WITH a factioned out ship of equal size its pretty much wasted money for my part. hard to be cpmtetitive against those players even in T2 stuff.

the few ppl thats still clinging on to those games are just the ones that cant handle the changes that new mmo's bring and think they can get girls from the local bar by saying "i'm playing the worlds first MMO!" :p

aaaaanyway, anything new emerged?

Not much.

Darkfall is having a public presentation during the "Athens digital week" in Greece. That's the 19th of October.

Hmm... irony, or just someone who really doesn't get the song. I'll go with the latter.

I read that the new star wars mmo by bioware will have lightsabre combat where you sabres actually clash! as opposed to just swinging randomly round not actually hitting anything. The journalist mentioned this was something all games tell us they will do at the start, but because its OMFG impossible to achieve without buggering the gameplay, it gets left out.

This, and the overhype i bought into with warhammer has lead me to just read the review, find out what its roughly about and then wait till its almost released. Paul Barnett told us all how there would be no stealth in WAR. Remember being super happy about that.

If i remember correctly, FFO has collision detection working.

It's just a matter of "being arsed".

Release slated for 22. January 2009 after over 6 years of development. Announcement.

Soooo, the final final final GUARANTEED release date of 2008 was, yet again, another darkfall (now an acknowledged dictionary phrase meaning "false hope" and "lol, as if").

Lost count of the number of release dates i have seen for this game, it always falls back into alpha and goes away for another 6-8 months.

As far as I know, this is the only announced release date for the game. But what they have done is promising beta many times and failed.

Actually thinking about it you are right, it was mainly beta dates, but there was a release date issued back in 2007 for early 2008, another in early 2008 for Q3 2008, then another in Q3 2008 for "by the end of 2008".

I doubt anyone ever really believed it would see the light of day before 2008 was out.

Cmon, be realistic, theres a friggin credit crunch going on!

Yup many "release date... soon.." announcements, but nothing nailed. Seen in contrast to AoC and WAR that nailed 3-4 dates and changed their minds 1 month before release (mainly AOC).

oh comon folks are any of you seriously thinking about buying this?

A game made by a bunch of part time greek devs working out of their sweaty basement?

If it took them this long to get the game into the state it is now can you imagine how long we would be waiting for the first patch?

I think most of you here are in for a rude awakening when it eventually comes out.

It has been the Holy Grail of mmo's for a while now...however once released im sure it'll soon become more of a Styrafoam Cup ;)

Actually, this is the first offical launchdate released since Razorwax became Aventurine. However a lot of nonoffical launch and betadates have been released.

Its actually a bunch of norwegians with some greeks tossed into the mix :)

And they havent been in production for so long... Razorwax started the project and got bought by Aventurine in 2003, hence a Total rework. 5 years is Not long for a MMOproduction. Esp. not for a company at this scale.

But this is the problem aint it?

A small company will not be able to keep up with patches etc that takes multimillion doller companies weeks to get out.

I mean an emergency patch could take days for these guys to get out.

I just don't see the game taking off at all.

EVE-Online started in a similar fashion. So I don't see why not.

EVE-Online is very much the exception, there are lots of games like this from small studios, the vast majority are free-to-play or have vanished.
