Uk new measures means the added death figures with the all sources deaths not just hospital deaths. Which many of the other countries are unclear about. And i doubt usa’s numbers are that low. I am sure there are loads of people die who couldnt afford health care that are never registered as a cv death. Not to mention all the illegals in new york.

Illegals are part of the statistics for NY. If you are dying, you'll get treated, insurance or not. The US numbers are for people who tested positive and died. For NYC, they did some analysis for a period in early April, and it was about 1000 official C-19 deaths over 3 days, 2200 in total, of which 200 were unrelated, 1000 was likely corona related, so official number was about 50% too low...

So some polling done by reuters oxford about who thinks who is doing a good job just shows the splits here are not a microcosm

Left think the government is shite and right think they not to bad. This thread could go round and round on that basis alone.

and this same research. But one which orgs have / are doing a good job

@Job - I don't want a response - just read this.
Comparing it with Ebola is just utter nonsense...utterly outrageous.
Yes a third admitted to hospital die, kinda ignores the 90% who are quietly catching it and having at worse a couple of weeks feeling rough.

The people who are going to die of it end up in hospital, where do you think they should be?

"Some people persist in believing that Covid-19 is no worse than a bad dose of flu. They are gravely mistaken,” - Professor in child health and outbreak medicine

I guess you know best @Job?

Edit: BTW - only 6% of people hospitalised with flu die. But even actual hard facts - the truth - and appeals from experts to people like you saying "no, job, it really is very serious" can't change your mind.

There's a word for people like you, unfortunately. :(

The timing of this very out of context....Im presuming, the media trolled through to find a clickbait...study is rather handy.

If its just been released to scare people into following lockdown, fair enough.
I'm sure the authors will quickly release a ...hang on, thats not the full story..press release.

@Scouse even if we tested the whole population and got the death rate was higher than flu @Job would still disagree.
No point trying to argue.

He has his opinions and doesn't change them at all no matter what is presented to him as he regards the evidence as all fake. Just like Trump does.

"Oh conspiracy"

No, Mr Tin Foil. Study has been released because, surprise, they've been counting admission rates and deaths as thdy've been happening.

It's not to "scare" anyone. It's a statement of fact - but if you feel fear then that is correct.

It's not the flu @Job. It's very deadly.

I dont even know where to start.

Comparing Covid to Ebola, firstly they are only comparing death rates in hospital.

No one..no one gets Ebola and walks around without symptoms, thats why luckily it doesnt spread.
It causes haemorrhaging internally and externally, has an average fatilitly rate of 50%..ranging from 20 to 90% over various outbreaks.

You cant pick one part of the story to compare, yes Covid kills...but the good news is 66% of people bad enough to be hospitalised recover.

Should perhaps setup a rotation, alternate 30 day ban rotation between Job and Scouse :p

At the end of the year, count the bodies and put it against the average to see how deadly it is.

I asked for him to be permabanned a couple of days after he got back. He's like a cancer.
I never even got a reply, cheers mods.

For why?

I guess posting evidence and argument is tedious for someone who enters the discussion (on a discussion forum) only by facepalm...

I wasn't comfortable with his ban. He's a cunt, but then cunts exist. Going "lalalala" and banning him risks turning the place into an echo chamber.

Plus - all that happens is that the next most disagreeable person becomes the focus of the forum's ire - so if you follow that logic it ends up with one lonely person sat on the forum, happy that nobody disagrees with him, but still - no-one to talk to.

Like Terry Pratchett said: The saying" Hell is other people" is wrong - Hell is no other people.

Yes, you silly boy.

And for the hospitalised, covid is more like ebola than the flu.

Geddit?

You asked whether lockdown was about "saving the NHS" OR "saving lives".

It's both.

While he was away heated debate continued, with all making points that "could" be understood even if disagreed with.
Since he's been back we've just got pages of him posting drivel and you arguing with him.
It's tedious and turning me away, and I suspect others.

It cant be about saving lives..only a vaccine will do that, lockdown just delays the deaths.
And introduces considerably more in the long run.

Seriously..are you questioning an argument that Covid isnt as individually deadly as Ebola.
I mean do you want it to be?

You really are naive if you believe that you and he actually discuss anything, you both come on to carpet bomb others to death with opinion posts until you are the last ones standing and generally end up facing each other in endlessly reciprocal arguments that'll change neither sides point of view any way.

This tedious country comparison is a giant waste of time; too many variables, too many different measurement criteria; give it a rest.

FWIW I don't think there will ever be a meaningful and agreed set of numbers for this.

Ha..thats so true.

Except the opinion...I have opinions on facts.

No you don't, you selectively post stuff to service an agenda when you don't know how to read the data in the first place.

Bizarre how the "austerity is killing people" crowd have done an almighty pivot to now lockdowns save lives. Even though what we'll have to go through to pay for all of this will be austerity with bells on - and recessions / depressions have a habit of costing lives too.

Anyway, speaking of almighty pivots, the WHO have woken up again:

https://nypost.com/2020/04/29/who-lauds-sweden-as-model-for-resisting-coronavirus-lockdown/

Are they taking the piss?
