The Bora/Octavia are alot more practical to repair than the Passat/A4 especially the suspension which break alot and cost loads on the latter.

Dunno why the discontinued the Bora it was a nice car, stupid Jetta

I have the 130. Shudder to think how it handles with 230.

I'm with Wazz. Fecking ruined.

"INNIT BRUWZZ, EURO ALLOIZ SITTIN SCRAPING MA SHITZ INNIT".

Me three, such a waste of a Boxster. Euro style wheels look a bit shit in my book, and stretched tyres are just plain dangerous. Considering they are your only point of contact with the road, it seems a bit silly to run them way out of spec.

The Bora looks OK, not a huge fan of Dubs any more tho, and I fucking hate diesels. Rattly, smelly and the "power" band is all wrong. I can imagine putting 230bhp and loads of torque through the front wheels can lead to a few interesting moments...

Oh and last, but definitely not least, love the Alfa Teeds. I've always been a fan of the GT, if they made it RWD I would have one in a shot.

cheers Bods and G, I know it's praise when it comes from you :) as to the RWD on the GT, ooh that would be scary fun indeed heh. not for the likes of me I think :D

took the grey lady out on a little speed run today: got up to 210kph for a couple of minutes (eg 130mph...Wazz :p) on the German autobahn before I wussed out. Not too bad I guess, given the book says the top speed is rated to be 216kph. LOTS of wind noise, which is normal seeing as the GT's doors don't have a top frame, ie it's just glass for the window pressed against a rubber seal, but other than that it was scary fun. Car cruises very nicely indeed at about 160kph, with tolerable wind noise and the cd player blasting out The Dead Weather (complementary to the weather in ye olde NL atm I guess) :)

Currently I am *considering* a hi-flow air filter and a sporty exhaust with a "sports" catalytic converter, because it will make the car sound nicer. I'm not a speed freak or anything, but I like the sound hur hur. What I really am going to do is have a scratch I spotted on the windscreen treated at a car glass shop, and have a small ding next to the luggage compartment door popped out by an automotive mate who has a shop. Then I am going to have the in- and exterior professionally cleaned, and then all will be sweet :)

I second this.

Alfa are (finally!) going back to RWD for key models. The Chrysler ownership makes it stack up economically to invest in RWD platforms.

NB. What's with all the Boxster hate? Can't see the problem meself.

really? hmmm may be interesting for the next one. I'm actually pretty much sold on this Alfa. It's sweet going fast and it's sweet going slow.

and re the boxter. that's actually the only one I like, because of the more pronounced "eyes". I'm more old skool with the 80's 911 because of those eyes, and also because I want to be Hank Moody :D

oh, eye (sic), wtf are "euro alloys"? makes me think of a germano-czech pr0n vid tbh!

I can't stand the stock boxer look, looks like a hair dressers car, but that one looks decent. Certainly wouldn't say no to owning it, would change wheels to the black pro race 1.2s though.

@fast, I wouldn't worry about ppl that say its shit, They are just jealous they can't afford it.

Lulz, most people saying they don;t like have cars worth far more than an old Boxster. Thanks to their propensity to going bang (same RMS/IMS issues as the 911) they aren't worth as much as you think. Still good cars, I'd probably go for a Z3M though, as they're loads quicker and have loads more character, even if they don't go round corners so well.

Well my car woe for today is that one of the brake dust shields came completely loose and is currently rubbing against the disc/wheel. The bastard.

Hopefully it'll be dry tomorrow so I can fix it.

What does this mean please, pros? (I'm a nub)

Offside front Front constant velocity joint gaiter deteriorated

Obviously I understand the words and the first and last part, but the middle part I don't know. :D

Anything I need to worry about?

It means the rubber boot that stops water and grime getting to the important bits on the CV joint is falling to bits. That means the joint can't also hold the grease which lubricates it.

Yes, it's something to worry about, but it need not be expensive. It just needs an hour's labour, a new boot, and a bit of grease.

If, on the other hand, the CV joint is knackered (due to afore-mentioned water and grime) then you'll need to spend lots of pennies replacing it.

Don't ignore it, it'll only cost you a hell of a lot more if you do.
