GOA reopened an old account of mine with autorenew even though I cancelled it almost 4 months ago. I sent them an email and this is what I got back.

'Response (CS) - 11/15/2003 09:41 AM
Dear customer,

We're sorry for not being able to help you, but once the transaction succeeded, there is no way back.


We advice you if you don't want to be billed anymore to cancel your subscription, you must go to the official site in the "My account" header (using your account login/password), at least one week before the end of your current subscription.

You just have to check the I don't want to renew my subscription and validate. This will cancel your subscription automatically.'


I will be damned if I let them off with this, £22 aint alot but I am not paying for thier mistakes, no god damn way.

The payment was made on a Switch debit card, anyone know if I can get the cash back through my bank?

Switch Debit's can be cancelled, you will have to be quick tho.

Had the same thing happen to my planetside subscription. When something like this happens (assuming you where actually canceled) they are ofcourse obligated to give you your money back. Proving that your account was canceled is difficult though.

sounds like they've misunderstood your email - email them again making it very plain and very loud that you cancelled your subscription ages ago.

run down to your bank and tell them they ripped you off ;> Dont know if it works but im sure your bank will know what to do.

This is one reason you should use a regular credit card. Just send in a message to the CC company that you have been charged for something you havent ordered and they will bring it up with the offending company.

But the reactivation without your input...interesting business policy.

Every account transaction, anything you do there is logged, so the automatic opening of the account must be logged aswell.

Btw, you are not the only one, Chodax, same thing happened to me - I am reversing CC charges as I paid by VISA though :(

Still, it sux ...

Phone your bank, tell them this and they will send you a form to sign to say that you did not authorise this payment and they will reclaim the funds on your behalf

well I was talking about this thingy with my mates at work, im working in law area >:E~ , and possibly we'll try to do some little thingy about it :) if we're successful GOA will lose a lot of money, MUCH more than they're stealing ;)

Because you used switch Im pretty sure you cant get the money back through the bank. They will advise that you take it up with the person you gave money to. This is because you previously authorised a Direct Debit with GOA etc.

So the only way to get your money back is to email GOA with all the facts and hope they realise their mistake and pay up. If they dont I guess you can keep spamming em or posting on boards. ;) Im sure they will see sense eventually.

As other ppl have said, always better to use a credit card as you could have just phoned your bank and charged the transaction back (get your money back). It would have then been upto GOA to prove that you owe them that money etc.

I know this happened to a lot of people when the servers came back up after the hacking incident.... Most, if not all accounts were automatically put on autorenewal. I have never had mine on autorenewal, but suddenly it was, and so was the accounts of a lot of others....
GOA screwed up there... Taking servers down because of hacking and ending up with "hacking" themselves...

they didnt have permission to take the cash, tell your bank that.

Has similar things happen in the past. Simply tell your bank, they will get you to fill out a form and will refund the cash.

Bank will then seek to recover directly from source.

Well thats what HSBC did for me anyway :)

Had something similar happen to me , i emailed them and i was satisfied with what they did . I didn't get the cash back at the end of the day , but they did take care of it in other ways .

aye they can't do that, IMO every company could send you a billl that way and leech money off their customer's :eek7:

1. They are making unauthorized withdrawals from your account
2. They have been making unauthorized withdrawals from a lot of other people’s accounts

3. They have previously been notified about the problem, and have had more than enough "reasonable" time to fix the problem.

4. Even thou its a well known problem, they refuse to refund you lawfully claim for unauthorized withdrawals they have made.

5. They are profiting from it (including the people that don’t check their bank statements carefully

Conclusion: its criminal fraud, no better than those scam websites that lure credit card information’s out of gullible persons for the purpose of abusing them.

If it happened to me, I would strongly consider going down to the police station, and filing a report.

Well after a week of back and forth emails I have got nowhere, they have made so many stupid comments I have lost count and refuse to admit liablity. The bank won't help as it was paid via switch and wasn't a one off payment as I had paid before using those details.

Anyway to top it off, I cancelled all 3 accounts this morning. I have played the game for 2 years and feel like I have been waiting all that time just for fixes, I have become so tired of GOA's lame attempts at running this game. My mistake but I won't carry that on anymore, it is only £24 a month they are losing but many others are walking away so maybe they will wake up and smell the coffee one of these days.

chodax mate, write a last email.
Spell it out in case they don't get it

something like

"YOU ENABLED AUTO RENEW ON MY ACCOUNT"
"YOU PAY BACK THE MONEY TAKEN"

otherwise, try getting in contact with the E and E's and see if they can get kemor's help.

this happend to me. i cancled my sub, a week later my account was opend againd and GOA took £8 off me. i emailed kemor and said sorry nothing can be done, send a msg through rightnow. i sent a msg and they said sorry all transactions are final or some such bull shit. i said 'but youve taken the money without my consent which is illegal' , im sorry but all transactions are final. i threatend them with legal action and then they shut my account down..

but didnt give my money back!

edit: WHAT THE FUCK! i just looked at my aco**** out of interest and i have been subscribed for another month +1 extra day, this is fucking ridiculous, im gonna email them and they can shove that final transaction bull shit up their asses.
