First of all I hate AC raids and I feel sick each time I wake up and see any realm that has done it (lately its has been all the Alb realm has done) . I think it as much against "the spirit of the game" as lowering a keeps level, actually even more, since it affects all the 3 realms RvR gaming.

Lately, and with this last banning of people, its seem to be direction that the game is taking is towards a RvR scene where its all comes down to witch realm can muster most players off-primetime. We all know what realm that is. I belive the intend of RvR was to wage big battles against the 3 realms and capture each others relics by outsmarting/planning/playing better than each other. This is not what is happening atm and I dont think GoAs actions is helping the game in that direction what so ever. This makes me sad because I love the game and the RvR part of it. I used to look forward to the RvR part of the game but the way things are going atm its a fast way towards a complate mockary of the RvR scene. Since all kinds of the RvR part is conected large scale RvR, seige RvR, grp v grp RvR, solo vs solo everybody becomes affected when the relics change hands. So when one realm (to be completly honest, when a few guilds and players in that realm) chooses to AC relics over and over its becomes a waste of time for the rest of us to invest time and planning in largescale primetime RvR.

Regarding the banning of people for downgrading a keep and releasing a keep as an attack against the "spirit of the game", that is a huge grey area as Requiel says himself. Thats what is causing so many problems, because what is the "spirit of the game"? And who defines it? (GoA ofc, who seems to support that AC is NOT against the "spirit of the game" by allowing it). But it also raises big quesitions for me as a GM of a guild. Because can I get banned for lowering the level of a keep with a relic if my guild hold the keep? When does it becomes griefing the realm? When I lower it to level 1? Yes! When I lower it to level 2? When I lower it to level 5? When I lower it to level 8? Where is the line? Can I release the keep? What if a guild claims it after I released it and keeps it at level 1, can I get banned for that? Seems so! To me it also seems like I have a bigger chance of getting banned for these examples if I dont belive in ACing? Because then it "could be" because Im doing it to "hurt" my realm? Its a huge grey area and a slippery slide I dont like to imagine where ends. Im a very concered player at the cluster server, that definatly dont like the way this game is heading and dont see GoA (and the GMs) doing anything to rectify or change the situation.

Very concerned and worried about the situation and my future in daoc.

Well truely and honestly its against the spirit of the game and I think everyone knows that, but what the community have been saying for years about alarmclock raids and their stupid effects "etc you feel like you been robbed with your pants down" ofc AC raids where the only thing you could do when the prydwen/excal server where at 600-700 players on each realm and if they would relic raid it resulted in a server crash, but relic raiding now and using the alarm clock strategy with the server dying is infact disrespect to your enemys and should be against SotG aswell..
but ofc saying you downgrade the keep on irc or where ever to get the effect he wanted is so bad in my humble oppinion and maybe deserve this small slap on the wrist.

5day ban is really nothing, but the way daoc is and everyone knows that the game is dying it feels abit wierd for them to give out bans at all.

Maybe mythic/goa should open daoc as free game sence it have no future.

Well as an old player of daoc I think whatever they do to "save" daoc it will not be enough, its like uo or maybe old everquest where it have some die hard fans who really love the game and continue to play it like they remembered it.

Look at the situation from the other way around. If TT and BF had organised a primetime raid, got a relic and popped it in a spanish keep (whether or not this would ever happen is irrelevant), only to wake up the next day to discover that the spanish people released their keep and it was retaken in the middle of the night. I am 100% certain there would be a furious flame thread criticisim whichever guild did it.

Right. I am going to make one post and one post only on this topic. I will not reply to PMs regarding this and I will not enter into a discussion via RightNow except with the accounts concerned. Also I will not disclose logs or discuss details of what sanctions may or may not have been applied to various accounts.

Spirit of the game is a very subjective term which is why it isn't down to any one person's point of view. The English team discussed the incident and we all came to the same conclusion. This is not about any one GMs personal feelings or ideals, it came from a discussion about whether this sort of behaviour should be considered acceptable or not. Downgrading the keep isn't against the spirit of the game neither is refusing to defend it. What was the sticking point for us was the combination of intent and action. The intention was clearly to sabotage their realm and the efforts of those who had taken the relic.

I'm not going to get drawn into a debate as to whether or not 'AC raids' are a good thing or not - on a personal level I don't think they are, however from a professional level they are an entirely legitimate part of the game. Players have several means ingame and elsewhere to make their feelings known and make their stand on either side of that argument. You have the right to attend or not to attend a raid or a defence to attack an enemy or to leave him be. These are things that are personal choices and have little effect outside of a very small sphere of influence. No guild or alliance however has the right to undermine the efforts of their realm though. If you don't agree with the way the relic was taken then that is fine and you are fully entitled to your opinion, if your guild happens to be paying the bounty points for the keep with the relic in it then by all means hand the keep off to a guild that doesn't share your views on defending the relic, you do not have the right however to unilaterally sabotage its defence. The relic does not belong to you or your guild, it belongs to your realm. Acting against the interests of your realm in a material manner is very clearly against the spirit of the game, a line has been crossed hence action has to be taken.

Regarding the application of the spirit of the game clause in other situations. I've seen people compare this to the 'adding' issue. The same rules apply. You are not obliged to attack an enemy or defend a friend. You are not however allowed to actively assist an enemy against your own realm. By design the game gives you very few ways in which it's possible to do this, marking friendly stealthers for an enemy is pretty much as far as it goes under normal circumstances. The issue of releasing keeps for iRvR is a grey area which we look into on a case by case basis (and yes, people have got into trouble for that in the past when it was clear that they were crossrealming), however that does not have the same impact that offering a relic on a plate to the enemy does.

Ultimately the game is about 3 realms fighting. If people keep that in mind, they are unlikely to find themselves in trouble.

GOA is in a tough spot. Both parties here are attacking each other and claiming the other is breaking the Spirit of the Game.

IMHO, any side GOA picked in this issue would have been the wrong one. The only real choice they had was not doing anything at all and let it resolve itself. That certainly would have improved RVR instead of cause damage.

The albs that disagreed could have stuck around and defended their relic, and the people who wanted it back could have attacked. Now neither is going to happen, and the relics will be AC'd back at some point in the future, starting a new cycle of whines.

That being said, as a Midgard player, I don't think 'having a relic' is worth losing a group the likes of TT. I don't think many realise that 'Realm Pride' works both ways. Without shining beacons like them all you are left with is the mediocre players that inhabit every realm. That is more of a backstabbing of your own realm than a stupid relic. My Guild Group enjoyed fighting them, and now we have one less skilled group to compete against. Now it's just zergsurfing and cattleharvesting. :/

requiel is full of BS - the only thing they have done is make hibs stop caring about their realm and go play US servers - hell entire guilds left to US - I can name a few if ya like. And what if they lowered the relic keep to lvl 1? Did it make a difference? Did we got it back already or is it still in alb hands? Do what you want - ban accounts - suspend them - play God - but in the end its you guys at Goa that will be harmed - not the player community - why? Because there are dozens of games out there - some even better in every way - we can go play and leave DAoC to ROT - same what most already done with it.
