looks to me the press are building up a nothing event, and you fell for it

The men were seized at 1030 local time when they boarded a boat in the Gulf, off the coast of Iraq, which they suspected was smuggling cars

The Royal Navy said the men who were on a routine patrol in Iraqi waters, were understood to be unharmed.

"There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that they [British personnel] were in Iraqi territorial waters. Equally, the Iranians may claim they were in Iranian territorial waters.

"We may well find that this is a simple misunderstanding at the tactical level."

Helicopters had reported seeing two British boats being moved along the Shatt al-Arab waterway to Iranian bases and there had been no evidence of fighting, he added.

They will be released and an apology will be issued..if not they could be in for a serious butt kicking and would probably see the SAS bust out the men anyway.

How is Iran taking 15 British Sailors prisoner in Iraqi waters a nothing event? It happened 3 years ago and Britain warned Iran that if the prisoners were not returned unharmed there would be consquences, if any of those sailors are harmed then we are talking war. It doesn't get anymore serious than that and lets be honest, the U.S. is just begging for an excuse to put the boots to Iran. This would be classed as an attack on a NATO member if anything happens to even one of those sailors the shit is going to hit the fan.

It is a nothing event, just a dissagreement on teritorial waters. Iran believe they have a larger distance away from the coast than the generally accepted distance.

The british general himself it is likely simply to be a tactical screw up, says it all really

they arent harmed and they will be returned

the only reason it is being built up is because it is Iran, and the title of the thread indicates you have fell for the hype ot be quite frank

This stuff seriously ticks me off ....... reality is that for the second time in 2 years Iranian forces have snatched British forces from Iraq. They then proceed to make maximum media gain from the issue when in reality they have commited a crime.
They will keep the British forces they have abducted for about a week then release them to the red cross.
BUT they will, like last time, keep all their equipment. So theft is yet another crime they will commit.
Given Irans determination to create a nuclear bomb and thus destabilise an already volatile region I wish the British government would take a REALLY hard line on this matter and demand the release of her forces and equipment or Britain will consider it an act of war and respond accordingly.
For too long has the west behaved in a resposible manor to Iran only for that state to take the piss.

Falling for propaganda for the lose :fluffle:

Classic .. and in 5 years when the US with the UK in tow is fighting a war they can't really win in Iran all the people that are "angry" at Iran now will be "angry" at their goverments.

How did it go down then?

Please clarify as you seem to be better informed.

Maybe it was indians kidnapping 15 McDonalds workers from shefield, using butter knives.

No. There are many areas of US foreign policy which I disagree with. Especially their policies in the middle east.
But I do support British armed forces and I do think that Iran having a nuclear capability would be bad not only for the region but for the world as a whole.
