Best (none Apple) Phone?

My contract is up in May and I have been looking around at some phones.

As always I will not entertain the idea of being tied to Apples software, while I like the iPhone I simply could not live with iTunes etc.

Is the Galaxy SII still the best one out there? I do like them but they are a bit massive for my liking, I also like the look of the Sony Arc S but have lost confidence in Sony phones recently.

What I would like is a good camera and a fast experience when using the phone. I still have my HTC Desire and it is really pretty bloody good apart from the camera (rooted and installed Gingerbread).

Any help will be rewarded with Megs phone number and swinger club address.

I think on here the S2 s considered top of the tree, some prefer the Galaxy Nexus, as you get the updates from Google on the day rather than waiting for Samsung to get the latest version. By May it will be 8 months old though so could be worth waiting a while to see when the replacement is due out?

Yeah I was going to opt for the Nexus but it has crappy camera and when the other phones get ICS I imagine the Nexus will have not a lot in its favour over the others.

Wait till June / July Trem, as Fast says new phones will be out and established by then.

Hold fire until early summer.
Samsung will almost certainly be releasing the Galaxy S3 by then.
A possible leaked image: http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2012/03/18/new-galaxy-s3-image-is-more-convincing/
Another leaked(?) image with possible specs: http://phandroid.com/2012/03/18/the-millionth-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-leak/

I'm tempted by the HTC One X. The screen size is mega, but the lack of micro SD card slot and a fixed 32GB capacity both bother me.

I've got until the middle of May to decide or if I'm going to hold on a couple of months. Who knows, maybe something amazing will come out in the next 2-3 months.

At the moment, the S2 is one of (if not the) best Android phone out...but as everyone has said, the new generation of quad core phones with awesome screens will come out in Q3/Q4. Worth waiting for.

I have not touched a HTC since they royally screwed me with my Sensation. They appear to have got too big got their boots and are coasting. Samsung kicking there arse will hopefully bring them back to being ahead of the curve. But so far they still look complacent to release the same hardware as everyone else with slower and sometimes non existent access to the latest OS.

I have been reading that Google and the Networks want phones to start offering Software and Hardware grantees for two years now as 24 month contracts are becoming the norm. It seems a great idea to me and I would love to see Google jumping on some phone makers to help get the latest software on the phones qicker.

Wait until May and ask again, the previous high end phones will be a bit old by then.

Windows Phone 7 is actually really nice and the Nokia is a very good example of one.

At the moment, the GS2 is still king afaic but the GS3 rumours are sex-wee exciting (1080p full hd screen, quad core processor - better performance, more efficient > 50% more battery time).

love my Nokia Lumia 800 and Windows Phone 7 is so smooth.

I honestly wouldn't go to another OS at the moment as apart from the small yet growing marketplace i just like the Tile system it makes the screen smart and not cluttered.

Frankly, if they hadn't had 3 stores on every high street then they wouldn't be in this mess.

I just upgraded to the Xperia S today, haven't had a proper chance to play with it yet, but what I can tell you so far is, it's fucking AWESOME. The screen and camera are stunning, and it zips between menus like a stag between brothels in Amsterdam. ICS should be here in the next month or so too. I think you should buy one Trem, and stop listening to these gays with their Quad Core nonsense.

I like my S2. Despite myself hating anything in a phone shape that does more than call or text.

I may even have apps. That I downloaded. From the internets.

Weird, this newfangled stuff.

I notice 2 people disagree with me. However one has an iPhone, so his opinion is invalid, and the other has terminal AIDS of the soul.

So there.

Your Dedication to Sony is Admirable but all of the objective reviews suggest that the only reason you would pick one over an s2 is out of devotion to the brand as it does not appear to be a stand out.

From GSMArena, the website the people in the industry listen to

The Sony Xperia S can successfully take on the best current-gen droids and come out the winner in several key areas

The Xperia S has its advantages over the Samsung Galaxy S II such as screen sharpness and the camera.

GSMA also gave most of their MWC awards to Samsung so I would hardly say they were biased in favour of Sony. Also if you look on the same website, you will see the highest rated phone by the community is......

The Xperia S.

which also has the benefit of not being made by Samsung.

100% satisfaction in 30 world wide users is less than 90% satisfaction in a million world users though.

And the GS2 has the benefit of not being made by Sony.
It's swings and roundabouts. You like Sony and knock other manufacturers. I like HTC, accept Samsung, and knock Apple at every opportunity.
Sony fumbled the ball IMO with the Xperia X1 then the X10. I went through 3 X1's before ditching it altogether. The casing kept cracking at a weak point. The X10 was fair enough, but Sony fucked up badly installing Moxier Mail on it because it restarted all the time and drained the battery more quickly trying to establish network connections. Rooting the phone and removing Moxier solved the problems. Then there's the USB socket breaking. Apparently it's a common fault with X10's. If I spend a few quid on getting the socket fixed and a replacement digitiser, it might be okay as a backup phone, but I'm loath to spend even that much on it.

I think I may dabble with the Nokia Lumia 900 when it comes out, I just really fancy a Windows phone.
