A friend of mine put up a link to the livestream of the presentations, so I decided to have a look. When the stream opened I saw a guy on stage, with an iPad, zooming and twisting an image, then people went crazy and applauded, so I closed it right down again :p

From what I've read they will be launching iOS6 at some point soon and the new MacBook Pro got some new super monitor..

Free Navigation by the looks of it. I am surprised Google are giving that away to other devices I know a few people who stick on Android for the Sat Nav.

October last year for the last one it would of been unusual to get one before October.

Wow! groundbreaking!
Seeing as they stated it was the same presentation that google made last week I don't think they are claiming it is ground breaking.

But very funny.

Got to be honest, apple are breaking away from the 1080p or bust screen market and actually putting out high end screens on their shit.

It does make a nice change.

That scream you heard was TomTom realising that it's revenue stream just dried up.
GMaps is pretty much everyone's satnav on Android.
This new nav will be the satnav on iOS.

The only thing TomTom has going for it is offline maps, POIs and Live HD traffic.

I used whatever shit was supplied with my phone to find my way around Bristol last week. Was fine...not sure if 3D would be of any use whatsoever really.

Was quite surprised that iOS6 will still run on my 3GS. Think that's a first for Apple.

It will run like horseshit, they load the trap with cheese and you fall into the trap by tasting the cheese only to realise that your 3GS is now much much slower than before. Thus you buy a 4S or the upcoming 5.

Actually since I had an original iPhone, that's not how it's worked since then. When they dropped the support for that it was fucking aggravating and indeed forced a hardware refresh (although only as I lost my phone). I'm just surprised that they're extending the backporting at all as I thoroughly expected iOS6 not to be available on my 3GS.
The only thing TomTom has going for it is offline maps, POIs and Live HD traffic.
And a global agreement with Apple to supply the mapping data

So if TomTom follow up on the Android app they hinted about, they've got both main mobile phone OS' covered.
Get a TomTom app out for Android over summer, and supply Apple's Maps from autumn.

Maybe not quite as scream-worthy as I originally thought, but they need to concentrate on software. The hardware PND market is evaporating with everyone starting to use their phones.

Fuck knows why TomTom have waited like 3 years to get apps out. Sounds like the place is being run by dinosaurs trying to protect a dying product.

TomTom have had an iOS app for ages but it costs a fortune. Plus the dock is £70 plus but the iPod Touch one is £15 they take the piss, the app and dock cost more than a standalone unit. And I bet there is still a charge every year for map updates.

There's still a big market for stand alone devices, I've been using phone powered sat nav since you could load
tomtom on the first gsm pocket pc's and it's always a bit of a compromise, not just freakin incoming calls, but always having a half full battery and the missus using the phone all the time to message and take pictures.
Sygic for me on android, only because it's cheap and reminds me of tomtom.
Edit: iphones are poo, I mean really, what are you thinking?

To quote my girlfriend when I asked her why she'd rather have an iPhone over the Samsung S2, which was new at the time
CornZ's GF said:
It looks prettier

So we ended up with iPhones.. The guy at the store was a dick and almost refused to sell me the S2 and the GF was breathing down my neck like the ghost you were hiding from the first time you were home alone, whilst whispering "geeeet theeeee iPhooooone!!"

Probably because they make more money off the iPhones, phone shops are milking it atm, with everyone begging for iPhones.

I pay £10 a month for a Wildfire S, unlimited texts, 300 minutes 500 net, my mate has a similar deal but has a iPhone instead, he pays £40 a month, 24 month contract. FFS, he could buy a car with that.

My phone does everything a iPhone does, apart from Siri, but granted, not as well, or not as fast, but I'm not totally sure why you'd wanna splash that amount of money just to get a faster phone.

There isn't as it goes. TomTom on my iPhone (which there was no alternative to when I purchased) is easily the best SatNav I've ever used. I didn't and wouldn't pay for their stupid dock though especially as one dock only fits one model, i.e. buy it for 4 can't use it with 4S.

No they don't. Mobile companies make next to no margin off iPhones and feck all off apps etc. Most Telcos use the iPhone to drive footfall and then try to sell you a nice Android phone when you get to the shop.

I still see a market for TomTom, reduced somewhat. The market for complete noobs that need a satnav (e.g. my parents who can't work a DVD player let alone satnav on a smartphone, or those that can't afford a smartphone) will still exist to a degree.

The Mac Pro update was not well recieved...

During a wide range of new hardware announcements at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, Apple made no mention of its languishing Mac Pro workstation. However, the company did ever-so-slightly revise the configuration options for the dual-processor version, standardizing on six-core Xeon parts using the now outdated Westmere-EP architecture. The company also added a "server" configuration with Lion preinstalled.

Though Intel started shipping updated Xeon processors based on the server-class Sandy Bridge-EP architecture a couple months ago, and despite rumors ahead of the Worldwide Developer Conference, the Mac Pro was not updated.
Apple did at least make a minor revision to the aging Mac Pro. As noted above, dual-socket systems now come with six-core Xeon processors standard. There is also a 3.06GHz build-to-order option for those wanting to pay top dollar for what is now a grossly out-of-date design. And a server configuration can be purchased with OS X Lion Server preinstalled, starting at $3,000. The machines still come with the positively ancient Radeon 5770 GPU, as rumored earlier today, as well as Intel's last-generation server CPUs.

Most pro users will be sorely disappointed with what Apple is offering, which is essentially three-year old hardware in a 10-year old tower design. Our own sources insist that a more serious update is being worked on, but it seems Apple has left the Mac Pro to languish until that new version is ready.
