aka Kôdo giasu: Hangyaku no rurûshu
code-geass2.jpg

Well worth a watch, if you liked deathnote you will love this one
Its a mix between gundam and strategy, there aren't really any huge explosions but more samurai style combat using mech's. There are no real good guys as the main character Zero is a very clever mix keeping him on the fine line between good and bad

First season is called Code Geass Hangyaku no Lelouch, basically shows the main anti-hero called Zero rise to power.

Second season is called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 where the story is concluded and you realise what Lelouch's ultimate plan was

Streaming episodes for cheap skates and poor people
http://www.otakucenter.com/code-geass-series-f562.html

Both seasons are available on DVD and BluRay, i recommend watching it in Japanese Audio, english sub as alot of the meaning and backstory behind concepts is lost in the english version

Best anime series of 2008 imo

I would really like to get into this whole anime world, but I have no idea of where to start :(

Akira is a good place to start then maybe watch :)

Naruto and Bleach, Gundam etc.. are very mainstream and easy to digest but also suffer from awful fillers to pad out seasons
The first season of Naruto is fantastic , Shippuden is a bit more mainstream and not as good as the original imo
Likewise Bleach started off awesome and has petered off a bit towards the end

if you like the gritty anime like akira
movies:
Princess Monoke
Vampire Hunter D
Ghost in a Shell

series wise:
Cowboy Bebop
Wolf's Rain
Samurai Champloo <-
Last Exile <- cant rate these ones high enough it is a amazing little series
Zombie Loan
Elfen Lied
Black Blood Brothers <- a pain to get but worth it

Movies which are a bit ligher:
Spirited Away
Howls Moving Castle
Night of the fireflies

For more intelligent ones Death Note is a VERY good series, and my new addition Code Geass i was hooked to this series all week (stayed up until 7am on a work night as i didnt notice the time pass and wanted to know what happened next ><)

Maybe i should start a blog /ponder

Just to warn you though, animes tend to be very slow to start but once your hooked its a downhill spiral
Theres a huge thread somewhere with recommends

I've yet to find a decent anime series, liked plenty of films; akira, ghost in the shell, spirited away, howls moving castle, castle in the sky etc but every series ive watched has been so slow and child like.

if you stick to mainstream ones they usually are because they want to get as many episodes out the arc as they can, whereas series with a fixed number of episodes tend to be of better quality

Try watching;
The Last Exile
Death Note <- slow to start but gets very addictive, its basically a battle of wits between the main villain and the "hero"

pokemawn,, or Yu Gi Oh!!!

The japanese versions that is, not edited by 4Kidzzzz.

they are the worst possible examples of good quality anime o_O
I appreciate people enjoy it but it is very much the japanese equivalent of power puff girls

Just kidding about Pokemon, be my guest and bitch on Yu gi oh DX but the original is not that bad.

Gantz is also a great series, not your everyday type of animé heroes / villains that can defy gravity and shoot fireballs out of their arse.

It has a slight similarity to Death Note, however it's much more action based, and perhaps emotional i general. Than DN which was much much more a battle of minds than this, although i can see how Death Note would come to mind.

I wouldn't say it's as good as DN, but well worth the time it takes to watch it.
I must say i was rooting way more for Lelouch in this, than i was for Yagami Raito in Death Note, where i found L. to be the more compelling character.

Overall, i say it ranks among the better animes i've watched.

if you compare it to anime which for all intents and purposes contains engaging storyline on par with movies and good quality artwork

everything...

It's still bloody anime. Well, powerpuff is a cartoon, but pokemon etc.

Pokemon is anime, in western or eastern terminology.

You can say it's poor anime, but it's anime none the less. Much like, say, battlefield earth is a movie :D

Anime isn't artwork+compelling storyline.

Hell, A-Ko is a good example of quality anime which has neither :D

Not to mention, i do believe pokemon is good artwork, just not "this kind" of artwork ;)

In short, there's no "bad anime", just not your cup of tea.

firstly stop twisting words and mixing replies

My reference to pokemon was to fettoken not to you,
i replied to you and you spefically regarding a specific item
I dont believe that even needed explaining

Try reading the reply, lets have a refresh

I say nowhere it is not anime, you just made that up
I do however state it is mainstream, mass-episode, quickly done tv and imo very dull (which is why again, if you read i said "i appreciate people enjoy it") but it is by no means a representation of the good quality anime out there as when it is put besides the likes of Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, Last Exile etc.. it is shown up for the mass-production type show it is. And to pre-empt you there is nothing wrong with that, there is always going to be a need for shows like Natruto, Bleach, Gundam etc... as it would be far too expensive to get A list voice actors and artists for weekly shows, its just not sustainable

Fair enough, a misunderstanding then, i'm not trying to twist anything ;)

Just sounded like a basic "it's no anime it's crap" answer.
