He'll still be a boring bastard in interviews though, that's never going to change. And I *still* don't think I've seen Lendl smile...
All tennis pro's are...cant think of one who is 'exciting' so dont hold that against him.

Why is he boring? Do people want him cracking jokes at every question?

Now that, to me, is something worthy of celebrating his 'personality' for.

Unfortunately it seems this is just an internet rumour, completely unconfirmed. http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=302961

He did previously donate some winnings to charity though, http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/video/2013/jun/17/andy-murray-queens-video-highlights

Andy Murray comes from a set down against Marin Cilic to win 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at the Queen's Club final on Sunday. Rain affects the game meaning a delayed start but Murray is not fazed, showing good form and fitness before Wimbledon. Murray donated his prize £75,000 prize money to the Rally Against Cancer charity for the Royal Marsden hospital

Aye. I take your point. Knighthoods these days are given out to anyone for anything.
You walked to the shops and bought a paper? Have an OBE

40 years ago, getting a knighthood was a real honour. Nowadays, they're given out like candy and aren't worth the paper they're written on.

And please don't name him Sports Personality of the Year. As much as I admire and celebrate his skills on the court, he's got the personality of a tax-return form.
Andy Murray deserves knighthood after Wimbledon - David Cameron

£1.6 million will be 0 to him though, since he comes from an extremely wealthy family as it is.

I wish media wasn't the way it was, and publicists ran famous peoples lives, so I didn't have to be skeptical of an individuals character because they're simply 'donating to charity'

Sportsmen have no personalities now because they're totally ran by companies to get their 'likeness' up.

I have more respect for those that have a bit of a character about them, rather than being dull, follow the crowd personality.

Murray was from an extremely wealthy family? He's from a reasonably modest Scottish city and went to a state school, are you sure you're not getting him mixed up with Tim Henman?

I was going to say, Murray is from Dunblane isn't he? Not notorious for its wealth.

He is, but as far as Scotland goes it's certainly more middle class than most with a school in the top 10 in league tables.

The fact that it's got a school at all makes in middle class in Scotland :)

I remember watching a documentary about him, he had a fairly large 6-7 bedroom house with a fair bit of land..

Probably cost about £500k in Dunblane, certainly attainable for a couple in good jobs, but by no means extremely wealthy like the Henman's of the world.

Really glad to see him win it finally. He's worked his arse off, and beaten the world's top players to get where he is now. He beat the world's best player in straight sets, albeit the hard way in each set, but he did it none the less.

Really funny to see all the snarky fuckers (not just here, but on Bakebook and on the wider web) moaning and being pissy and generally being miserable fuckers about it. Their number one complaint? Murray's a moaning, pissy, miserable fucker. Oh the irony :)

Congratulations to him, he's fucking earned his success.

Lots of moaning bastards here. Some bloke has worked his bollocks off and won one of the world's most famous and difficult tennis championships, and he's criticised for not being perfect?

Knobs.

No he got paid very well for doing it. You make it sound a selfless act which it so isn't.

He has made his Scottishness abundantly clear over time and he has no likeable personality. He won ok, he got paid. Good but FFS stop going on about it.

You're moaning at him getting paid for doing his job now? If you don't like tennis Moriath then why comment? You tell people to stop going on about it yet feel the need to keep commenting on it yourself? Or do you just get some sort of pleasure from going round saying peoples achievements are meaningless? It's not him that's coming across as the guy with the unlikable personality here!

Oh no, he got paid for working? Who does he think he is?!?!! And so what if he's proud to be Scottish?

As for your point about personality, you make the classic mistake of confusing the media portrait with the real person. Most people, behind the lens, are completely different than what you see on the screen. Which is why, presumably, his friends, family and girlfriend love him. And not you.

I'm not moaning he got paid, I am saying he got paid for being successful at something he loves doing. Good done dusted. Why should he get a knighthood or whatever for that. I get paid for doing my job I don't expect a medal.

I went to one of the top rated grammar schools in the country, but I still come from a relatively poor family. Going to a good school doesn't mean you're wealthy. Equally so, I went to school with plenty of people whose parents earned >100k/year and some who were on the dole.

Equally, the school you went to has very little to do with how well you do in a sport.

Not really. I know a few pro Rugby players, about half and half went private/normal. They played most of their rugby outside school.

Not the national team players though.

CBA to go through the whole list, but top 5 of the squad list on wikipedia - independent, prep, australia, independent, 17th century boarding school. The English national team are bunch of toffs and there are no two ways about it. One of them is called Billy Twelvetrees ffs.
