All,

Short of disabling ActiveX scripting, or set scripting to "prompt" is there any way to prevent auto downloading in IE?

For example, when looking at "adult" websites there is nothing more frustrating than auto downloading/executing porn diallers. Usually activeX scripting needs to be set to "prompt" so that when it asks "do you want to allow scripts to run?" you can click "no" so that no dodgy software is downloaded and run from your PC.

Is there anyway of keeping ActiveX enabled but prevent auto software downloads? It's frustrating having a webpage with 4 or 5 flash areas and being prompted to run each one. Does firebird have any options that allow scripts and plugins to run, but prevent downloading of malicious programs?

Is it the same as "Install on Demand"? If so, there are 2 check boxes options in "Internet Options -> Advanced" to disable it.

If that doesn't do it, then you could try a Firewall like Outpost which has various supplied plugins for content filtering and script blocking.

I've never had a problem with firebird downloading stuff from websites, I'm not massive "adult" site browser but I'd have expected to see it if it happens.
