So I got around to hooking up my 3rd monitor ( had to order a dvi cable to reach >.> ).

It's good for some stuff ( racing ) but awful for other stuff :p

Also picked up star citizen w/ their black friday $20 aurora package thing, so now I need to spend like £300 on a warthog hotas? apparently.

I might pick up a cheap hotas, see how I actually like star citizen , before getting the warthog :p

Oculus is a given though, who cares about the games, it's all about the weird 3d porn.

The colours off on the camera or the left hand monitor compared to the others. And the bezel would drive me nuts gaming like that heh

Yup the center monitor is 4k iiyama, the two sides are a few years old LG's, and even w/ calibration they just won't come close to the colour of the iiyama.
TLDR, if you want a good triple monitor setup, you need matching monitors.

I have another 4k iiyama downstairs, but I'd still have 1 non-4k panel and still have colour mismatch :(

Also tbh, I'm using a 28" and 2x 27" - anything past say the first 30% either side on the side panels, isn't really in my field of view anyway.

I think a 3x24" or 3x22" would be better, but to be honest I feel like you need 6 panel, as you have so much width but this tiny strip across.
Portrait mode would be an option but the bezel issue would be so much worse :(

the LGUM95 would be nice, but it's pretty low res overall.

That setup is a bit bezel-y for my skin and wayyyyy too wide. I would love a big 32" (or thereabouts) 4k monitor in the middle and a 24" in portrait mode on each side but PLP has always been an absolute bastard to set up.

3x24 works well in a lot of game - most of the mmo's ok. This was my rig of last 18 months due for an update but wont get around to it until the summer.

Dammit you guys I am on the point of caving in and getting one of those monitors

So, @ECA, or anyone...what is it you do...simply turn off anything resembling AA in your drivers and configs and enjoy? I have a 780ti. I don't want to spend any gfx card money for at least a year. What do I do brahs? Enlighten meh!

I did some tests and 0xAA was noticeable, 2x was basically fine and 4x was a tinnnnny bit better, and 8-16x were unnoticeable.

I'd happily play with AA off if that's the result. I can barely notice it.. I'll notice it even less when I'm having my ass handed to me. :/. I currently play with AA off anyway - I notice a drop below 60fps more than a few jaggy edges.

@ECA - You seem to know a lot about this. Will I notice much of a framerate drop with a single GTX770 when moving from 1080p to 4k? (single screen only and it'll definitely stay that way for me).

Not sure why, your 780ti is more powerful than my card, so it should be fine .

It's super game dependant.
Badly coded console ports are probably the prime offender.

I am going to postpone my 4k virginity loss until the new range of AMD processors are out next year. Early reports suggest they will cream anything Nvidia have available.

dammit, I was just doing a costs thing re going 4K and it's not cheap if you're as picky as I am: 2x GTX980's, 600e each, 4k 28" IPS monitor, 750e, 1200W PSU, 200e...AAAAH!

ofc I can flog my 27"1440p, two GTX970's and my old PSU, that should get me about 1K euros, but still

You don't need a 1200w psu.

980GTX uses about 300w under maxload, i7 4790k oc only runs to 150, so thats 750+ 2-4 per ssd.

a 1000w psu will easily cope with 2 980s.
You'd only need 1200w for a tri-sli 980 setup.

PS: You're too picky.

pfft, yeah. PSU choice is deliberate though. I select from those 80% Gold ones and they're most efficient at 40~60% load. Pricewise the diff between 1200W, 1000W and 750W (my current) is not a lot compared to the layout for the other kit. I may get it as a "got the degree" pressie, but ofc I first have to actualy get the fucker. two more months! :D

Basic engineering laws for power - work out what you need then double it, at least that what I was thought in Avionics design :) PSU working balls out will never last as long.

That's dumb levels of redundancy for a PC. What each component uses is easily measurable so you work out a max theoretical and then add 10-20%. I think I read that (good) PSUs are at their most efficient when they are >75% utilised.

Oddly enough. With my 970, two monitors, i5-3570k, media server, net switch. My entire setup pulls ~350w maxed out in GTA.

Got 3 SSDs one internal spindle two external spindles. KB Mouse, Xbox controller and a lamp.

This is according the power monitor (belkin) i have plugged between the wall and my extension lead.

I was actually looking at two of these Samsung monitors as a replacement this summer or the LG ones. Then using a third 24" 1080p as a Monitor for chat and comms etc. frame mounted above the two curved. Also going to install watercooling kits on the GTX780's, have three cards now. Give me something to play around with in August when its too hot to go out and family is back in blighty.

Out of Interest has anyone tried the R295 yet? 600-700 bucks looks like a decent deal for the power but I understand it is a noisy beast even with the watercooling on builds like the saphire . Also the power requirements I seen 500W mentioned, 2 x 250W per chipset I guess. So probably looking at a second external PSU just to drive 2 of them.

Actually scrub all that just read the reviews on Amazon, better off getting 2 x R290 or GTX980

I had a 6990 a while back, but I really cannot recommend dual gpu/1card setups at all.

Crossfire actually has a painful weakness, in that you can only utilise it in full screen mode, borderless windowed = only 1 gpu will be used.

SLI doesn't have that issue, so there is no point imo ever getting a crossfire setup.

Why would you run borderless windowed? Just curious.

Well i run it so i can mouse to other screens. But i guess if the whole setup is one big screen it wouldnt be necessary
