Hello friendly nerds, I am in desperate need of your help once more.

1. Firstly when I open a folder it displays the contents as icons, I want to see the contents as a list, I have had a mess around but I couldn't find where to tick to enable this. I can obviously change the folder each time I view it to list but I want it to be a permanent change rather than having to do it each time. During my messing about I have caused problem 2 -

2. After fannying around(see above) with my folder options I seem to have ticked something or enabled something that when I double click a folder it opens windows explorer rather than just opening the folder, I now have to right click on a folder then left click open, this is possibly the most annoying thing ever......apart from number 3 -

3. When I shut donw my pc I get that god fucking awful windows error noise and an error message, this slows down my pc when shutting down and also makes me want to smash it with a large crusty loaf thats been outside for 7 years. A pic of the error is below.

Please help me before I hang myself from the nearest rafter. Cheers in advance I love you all dearly.

1: Set the view you want it to be and go to Tools> Folder Options > View> Apply to All Folders.

2: Go to Tools > Folder Options > General > Open each folder in the same window.

3: Hmm - I'd check your start up/task manager and registry and see if there are any weird programs running. Check if it happens in safe mode, if not (and I very much doubt it will) then there's something running that's causing it. You just need to locate it. MSN me and I can talk you through messing around with the reg. (I'll pm you my address).

Cheers Nath you are a star. Will download MSN and add you in a bit. I am just in the eye of the storm before my boy is out the bath so I only have 5 minutes free.

Edited to say - First works like a charm, second issue I already have that option ticked but its still doing it :(

OK for 2: try going to Tools > Folders Options > File Types and there should be a Folder entry in the list, near the top. Click on that, go to advanced and there should be two actions explore and open. Click on open and set it as default.

Oh god chum, that hasn't worked either. It is now doing it on the dvd rom when I double click that as well. So I double click a folder, the hard drive or a dvd rom and it opens explorer.

Sorry about this.

AHA! Excellent tip. I was curious and had a poke around ther myself following your instructions. I had a bug where if I opened My Computer and double clicked a drive it would open up the search window. I added a new entry to open up explorer and show it's contents now. Ta. +1

Hmm, not so sure there Trem. I'll give it some more thought.

Actually - you know when you have to right click and click open to get it to open normally - is Open in bold? If not, what is?

Search is in bold and then open is not and its second down the list.

Sorry for the gaps in replies I have to keep dashing in while my son is occupied.

Edited to say - Search is first on the list and open is second.

Ok, that'll do it - so the one in bold is what's being done when you double click. That needs to be changed from the file type settings, but since you've already checked there it must be under a different one. Not sure where though :\

Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types -> Select in the list... Extension: (None) / File Types: Folder -> Advanced -> Select in the list... Open -> Set Default -> OK -> OK

Try that.

Yes, you should feel very ashamed and sad and ashamed. Go think about what you've done!

I have sorted prblem 2 by doing a system restore. Luckily I had installed a printer yesterday so I only had to go back to then.

Problem 3 iirc started as I was installing something and its like its looking for the driver disc as I restart. I will get on MSN tomorrow and give you a shout Nathz0r, I am at work all day today and I can't imagine you will be around tonight, I will be but I will more than likely be arseholed.

I had that number 3 problem - it disappeared after a few weeks spontaneously.

Problem 3 is now sorted out. It was my anti virus software trying to do a floppy check on restart or something like that anyways.

Thanks for your help Nath and cheers to babs (the big fanny) for guessing the problem correctly.
