Was watching them announce it (Few of us on WhatsApp are following all this) and one of them went "Wait, where's the 5950X?! :(" Literally 20 seconds later they showed it - Considering most of us are on 3900x this could make Christmas (5959)Xspensive.

They they did the GPU reveal, looks like whatever they showed is around the same perf on Modern Warfare as the 3080 - Wondering if that's their 67xx or 69(hehe)xx series..

I've just bought a 3600xt, I was thinking about waiting for a 5000 series but I'm pretty sure they're going to be hard to get hold of during the initial launch so I think i'll skip a gen or two with the 3600xt.

It's a hard launch, there should be plenty of stock. They're not Nvidia, after all.

Never been a better time to buy a PC.

Ryzen 5900 and RTX 3080 combo with plenty of PCIE Gen 4 NVME storage and you have a monster.

If you can get hold of a 3080 lol, between the scalpers atm its quite hard. Even MSI are scalping through a subsidiary via eBay.

I think the AMD 6000 series is meant to match or come close to 3080's, the only downside is AMD drivers are generally pretty shit in comparison to NVIDIA + the same problem will arise with scalpers over it.

best bet imo is try to buy a 2070 super or 2080 from people selling them to upgrade and just hang on for a bit. 2070 Super or 2080+ will last ages yet for 1080p/1440p.

1080p gaming.

What a "monster". :/

But yep, on the cost effectiveness front.

Frankly, because consoles exist not enough games exist to make it worth upgrading IMO. High frame rates at 4k? My 1080ti achieves it well enough and as we don't have many games where it's critical you run at 100fps+ (a la quake 3) any more I struggle to give more than a handful of fucks.

My 1080ti chugs along just fine at 4k/60fps in most games that I play.

Traditionally it is always behind, but often better value.

This feels like the generation to go for now for me.

Current rig is around 6 years old and the leaps here are big improvements over prior generations.

Plus the costs of 30xx cards are pretty nuts to me considering I did SLI 980's in my current setup.

Don't forget you need to upgrade to a 4k/1440p high refresh HDR monitor too! :D

Yea, scalpers went to town on the 3000 series, MSI got caught seller cards on eBay at a huge markup from a subsidiary too lol. Waiting for the 3070 myself.

Ooooer

It's taken four attempts, but AMD has finally cracked it: Ryzen is now effectively as strong as Intel when it comes to gaming performance. While some games remain friendlier to Intel processors, the differences are small enough that we're happy to recommend Ryzen 5000 processors as the default choice for most people.

Intel have been throttling their releases for years because there has been zero competition, so have Nvidia to a point.

Now they have actual competition again we should see a lot more choice.

Intel haven't so much been throttling, more that they just haven't been arsed to push the envelope and improve performance and progress to smaller processes to improve efficiency. AMD caught Intel completely with their pants down and they won't be properly competitive for years. Back in July they had to delay their 7nm CPUs until 2022 (probably 2023) and AMD will already be down to 5nm next year (or whenever Zen 4 launches).

The only thing Intel had going for it versus the Ryzen 3000s was single threaded performance (which meant they could officially call the 10900 the fastest gaming CPU) but AMD have taken that from them as well.

Anyway, a typically hyperbolic (but accurate) Linus video:

That's intel officially dead unless they make sweeping changes because AMD will just keep going up and up.
oh don't be silly.

They've been ahead before, and they'll be behind again. As you'd expect for a company formed in 1969.

It'll definitely bring Intel down a peg or two. The difference this time is that AMD is attacking them in pretty much every CPU arena - not only desktop with Ryzen but HEDT with Threadripper, servers with EPYC and laptops as well with their smaller process size leading to more performance (and more efficient performance, with less power draw and less heat output) than anything Intel can offer. They've never been competitive across all of these segments at the same time before and Intel are taking a bit of a hiding.
