That's exactly what this place, indeed discussion itself, is for, no?

NOT about individual users... sorry, multiple quotes, but I hope you get the point.

Singling out a single user to then analyse outside the context of the thread in question. I thought I told you not to bite?
Where's the lack of context? We're talking about Embattle thinking it's OK to imprison peaceful climate protestors for more time than arsonists, in the climate-y thread?

Me and @Wij have been having a right old ding-dong about how he and I feel about Israel and what it's getting up to.

That's absolutely about single users and what (and how and why) they think and feel?

I really don't understand your objection. So no, I don't get the point. I honestly find it a bit weird, sorry. 🤷

Then you're just gonna have to suck it up or take a break. Wij has been back and forth with you indicating a willingness to engage.

For Embattle, you kick off with a vague fucking reference to a 'recent post' of his, without quoting it, to try to draw him into your little mini whirlpool of antagonism.

No. Do NOT suddenly respond with the post you were referring to, just PUT YOU KEYBOARD DOWN ON THIS, or have a holiday.

As I said a long while ago I considered Scouse the typical champagne socialist, nothing has changed since then really so I read his posts knowing that and sometimes agree with what he says but other times I just mentally shrug and move on.

I've also stated many times, I don't do the endless circular arguments, that I reckon Scouse feels victorious in when others can't be bothered to reply anymore.

I've made my view point clear before regarding peaceful protest, the recent habit of protesters to deliberately obstruct others isn't peaceful protest in my opinion. I'm also not sure you get the engagement you require to really get the change you need.

I don't accept a government not following the law, ironically something you and many others would have a meltdown about if they did, but you find it perfectly acceptable that people shouldn't be held accountable to laws you don't like. If the government or members of the public don't agree with a law then you get it changed or removed.

Other than what I've said before or just now I've little else to say on this subject.

I just read that electricity prices are set to rise in January. Going to research candle making now.

That isn't really a surprise since you get the usual cold snap demand bump thus price rise, made worse since we didn't deem a need for proper gas storage.

I believe they've already stated it'll decrease in the following period.

Yeh I think I read that at some point (we shall see) that the price should go down sometime after Winter. What happened to all our offshore, solar, wind, water generators? Did we sell them off? Gonna have to get the guys in the office to do some snooping!

Firstly Solar is largely useless this time of year, see chart below from our own panels last year:

We've discussed before some of the issues but a large one is related to how gas sets the price of electricity:

Gas sets the price of electricity, because the electricity price in every half hour period is set by the marginal cost of the last generating unit to be turned off to meet demand – which is invariably a gas power plant with high marginal costs.

In essence the strike price for offshore wind was just under £40, although this is will increase in the next CFD auction to £75. Hinkley point C has a guaranteed strike price of £92.5 for MWh.

So with the price hike coming very soon is solar a waste of time/money/effort? Do I need to buy a donkey and a rotary generator and put it in the back garden?

Solar will still pay for itself, especially since solar panels costs have continued a downward slide.

According to the Tesla app we are saving around £1000 a year, without the battery it would probably be half that.

Wtf? That is mental, I need solar especially after seeing my last 1/4 bill. Does the Gov do any funding things to get more people to install it?

Due to the relatively cheap costs of Solar there isn't any real government help beyond the removal of 5% VAT until 2027.

Below is a breakdown of where the energy goes from our solar panels:

Without a battery storage system you'll be sending more energy back to the grid and getting more credit on your bills.

Am I reading this right? What you doing mid year that means you're pulling from the grid?

Right this is something I need to research otherwise I will end up having a mini powerstation installed in my street. Surprised the neighbours have not moaned about how dim their lights are.

As Jup stated, that image shows where the energy gained from our solar panels went whereas below is how much grid energy we used and where that grid energy went:

A lot of people can do solar, the real issue at the moment is demand which causes waits for installs.

The following graph shows the impact or our system:

Perversely, maybe it's the best place for COP28 then? At least they'll have to hear all the science.

The problem is, without the oil, that whole area of the world is just a sandy little butthole with no way of making money. It literally would put them back into caves.
