Playing on a PvP server on US nowadays (takin break cos of xmas), anyhoo its a blast. Altho you can get rather annoyed with all the griefing and that, but I guess that comes with the type of server you choose.
Also planned for a PvP server on EU, until I saw this article on the official US site: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/battlegrounds.html
It seems to be DaoC frontier style, you get automatically flagged for PvP when entering the Battleground portal, much better than the lowbie ganking that happens in the contested territories on PvP servers. You can exp peacefully until you feel ready and decide to PvP on the normal ones (and roleplay ones?)..

So it seems that normal servers definitely opens up for proper PvP :)

Merry xmas to you all

Where is the fun if you can't annoy other people by chaining them while they try to do a quest? :(

Looks very good -- I'm intrigued how they will solve the perennial problem of population imbalances though. I would guess they will spawn more/higher level NPC fighters for the weaker side. I would also hope they make more than one battleground area - having only the one zone to fight in would get a bit dull !

one thing i still want to know bout pvp

You cant ever attack your own side in it can you? so its not like camlann?

ive only ever got to lv 25 on pvp and noticed that i can kill enemy sides but not my own "team"

SUrely this is more fun? as it means that people can try and venture into both sides of the game, unlike daoc where u only have the rvr realms and u cant take for example a hibbe to prwyden keep :p

Nah, you cant attack people in your same faction, that would be proper chaotic :) However everyone in the same faction can kill everyone in the opposite faction in the contested territories, which can lead to loads of fun.... But also cause alot of grief between players. As someone can kill you when you are killing mobs (fair enuff, its PvP you think) then corpse camp you for a few hours, so your only option is to release to the spirit healer (25% dur loss, 10 min res illness). You still have the option to invade enemy territory homelands on normal servers, altho people in contested territories have to be flagged for PvP. People in friendly territories can attack invading players, but the invaders cant attack any1 in enemy territories unless they attack you first, hence flagging themselves for PvP. (same rule applies to PvP servers on this bit aswell)
But of course, if some1 is getting close to the capital city and killing NPCs on the way etc. You might want to stop them ;)

Looks very promising indeed, however I've never been lowbie-ganked before though... most high lvl players have the decency to just /hug and /dance with you instead of killing you so I don't think thats an issue on pvp servers though... think I'll just stick there.

Well, generally I dont have big problems with lowbie ganking, but I'm playing on the server that DIE has settled on.... and they notorious lowbie-ganking "omfg i roxxorz" people... to bad I found out about that the hard way.... lol :)
Altho i'll ofc be playing with people I know/want to play with, the game is really about having fun, PvP or normal.. :)

looks v sweet changes tbh

i play on a PvP and although it can be fun being ganked by a group of 5 horde wen your solo can get pretty annoying :p especially when the really skilful one does /spit

PvP servers will still have more viability for "roaming" pvp, seems this battleground will turn into emain a bit, full zerg warfare, i dont think lots of pvp guilds will like it to much though because NPCs can interfere etc, i know i always used to hate roaming in briefine and you'd be having a great fight till a guard patrol added

Just have to make a Orc lowbie, send him to the battlegrounds and go on resource gathering.

While chanting "Ready to work" and "Zug Zug" only then to get slaughtered by the Alliance Zerg.

Battlegrounds do sound like alot of fun.

Sounds great, but I'm still not sure wether to choose a PVE server or not. It just doesnt feel right to be able to go into enemy territory while you cant be attacked.

Erm thought the basic concept of PvE servers was you cannot be attacked in your own territory but can be openly attacked when in enemy territory?

From what i can gather, it looks like the BGs will be instances, so they can balance them out well. it also looks as though there will be more than one, i'd say a lot more from the size of the world. will be interesting to see how it all fits in when they've got a few more details up

sure it will be easier (and more boring) to exp on a "normal" server, but once you hit 60 it will be more boring :p

I always enjoyed the added interest of fighting mobs and players while trying to exp or do a quest.

On the PVP servers there are 3 type of zones.

Friendly - By default, your faction has PVP immunity here unless you have your PVP flag enabled by attacking other faction people, helping guards or typing /pvp

Neutral (contested) - In these zones both factions have their PVP flags enabled.

Enemy - The opposite of you friendly zones. Your PVP flag is enabled by default, other faction people have PVP immunity by default, unless activated.

As far as I understood, haven't played PVE yet so I might be wrong, on the PVE server the only enemy zones are enemy city. If you enter an enemy city your PVP flag is activated and the guard will attack you, people of the other faction CAN attack you. If they choose to not help the city guards for example, they will have PVP immunity. If you not in an enemy city, you can manually activate you PVP flag by typing /pvp. Other faction people can attack you whenever they want. You still can't attack other people unless they have their PVP flag enabled (by attacking you, manually activated, or recent PVP activity).
So basically everything is friendly zone for both sides, except for the cities.
