I'm thinking of buying a Xbox 360 tomorrow, but I want to hear your opinion if you think it was worth buying one.

This applies to those who already have a X360 of course.

Do you think the machine is great?
Do you regret buying the machine?

Just the basic stuff :)

i bought one on impulse the other week.

out the box, its one of the most well thought out products ive ever bought. you may think thats daft, just wait and see if you ever come to buy one.

the live aspect is good. ive never had any lag, plus you get 30 days free to check it out. suprisingly my favourite game is PGR3 and ive never been one for racing games in the past.

graphics are pretty great and im not using HDTV either.

i havent come across anything that i thought "i wish it had this". everything integrates so well when you use it also. DVD playback is also flawless and piss easy to use with the wireless controller. lets you get rid of another bit of hardware i suppose ;)

The 360 is a really good piece of kit to own. Particularly since us euroes aren't getting the ps3 until august.

Pop onto the IGN website and search for gears of war to see what kind of games are possible on the 360. Gears of war just got 10 for graphics, 10 for sound, 9 for gameplay 9 for presentation. Only got let down on replayability or so.

The HD DVD drive should proove really useful to have aswell.

360's are easy to firmware flash aswell (Legal afaik, however voids warranty, otherwise I wouldn't post)

Graphics are good (1080P max, 720P for most games i.e 1280 x 720 or so)
Sound is good (5.1, digital etc)
Gameplay is good, decent solid controllers, particularly the wireless ones
Online service is useful but not essential. Proving to be more useful though, lots of patches + addons. Plus they announced a online movie rental + purchase system (Tv shows too).

Only letdown for me is the noise + heat. However it's not that bad, the heat comes in handy during the winter months :D

Another issue is the power brick, its actually bigger than a housebrick, its rediculous however its fine i guess if you can hide it somewhere out of sight. Out of this generation of consoles I'd say the 360 has won, even before the PS3 is out. I may get proved wrong though.

All this, and im actually a sony fanboi (Never bought an original Xbox, stayed loyal to my PS2)

Worth buying, but make sure you only buy games that have some online play with them, there isn't many games with good single player lastability

well, there's two reasons why I wanted to buy an xbox 360.

Now you might call may childish, but I'm really looking forward to the superman returns game :p The gameplay looks awsome and it just seem to turn out great :)

Gears of War is of course a necessity ;)

I mainly play on the pc so i do regret buying it in that aspect, but there are some good games out which are more pick up and play such as Pro Evo 6 so its worth having for that.

When i play most games they always have this time feeling about them, with mmo's you have hours upon hours of gameplay, with consoles or most other pc games you dont have that so i always feel dissapointed when the games end :(

The thing with Pro Evo 6 and games such as PGR3 is that you dont need to pump hours in at a time, you can play a couple matches and go out hence why i decided to keep mine.

xbox live is amazing, best idea ever for a console.

And with Vista supposidly being able to use a version of live could mean in the future having PC and 360 owners fighting it out online together :)

Just make sure you get the pack with the HDD and wireless pads, the other pack is like buying a vannilla ice cream from a stall with 100 flavours, yeah its nice but you could of done so much more with it.

Yeah, but wii will be sold at about 350 USD, while I can get a new premium package for 170 USD (I'm a lucky bastard :p).

That's with a wireless gamepad, 20gb HD, and a HDTV cable.

Borrowed Dead Rising from a friend now, gonna go out and buy the xbox tomorrow after Uni.

Had my 360 since launch day - STILL waiting for a game I find engrossing. Maybe Gears of War will change that. The majority of its titles are either PC ports or cross-platform stuff. Haven't seen anything original for it in a year.

Unlike someone else here ours doesn't play DVDs properly at all and because we don't have a HDTV (yet) insists on using the same scart socket as our DVD player in order to run anything that needs 60hz display.

All in all I think it's a very nice pice of hardware - I like the wireless controllers, the control software, X Box Live etc. but I think it has been very badly let down by a lack of 'must have' games that are unique to 360, esepcially multi-player (for 2 people on one console) although again Gears of War may change that, I'll let you know in 10 days :)

lol, Nintendo wii version 1000 maybe, but not the one they are releasing ;)
A e-friend went to E3, he said that gfx wise th ps3 blows both the competitors away. but the production delays here in the UK are taking the piss.

The xbox 360 has Halo 3

The Wii has, well, i guess it has the new Zelda if thats your sort of thing
choices choices ><

Nintendo Wii is not as powerful but this is a purposful act, they are going to excel via the games and dont need to make the machine as powerful, because Nintendo make fun games, not stupidly awesome graphics games with no gameplay.

The interactive pad also means the games are unique so its a good console, but i wont be getting one.

Javai, if you purchase a gold scart lead for the xbox360 your picture will be far greater quality, the games are made for High Definition TV's so you wont get the picture as its supposed to look, however with the normal scart cable you will get something called "Bleeding" which (my explanation may not be 100%) is where the pixels bleed, it means the detail on everything (more so with finer things such as button commands on tool tips) will look blurry.

The cables cost about £5-10 but improve the picture vastly

had my 360 since launch day, and i dont play it as much as i use to play consoles (mainly because i have a PC which is far better)

but saying that, its by far the best console ive had, graphics nice, sound is very good. and ive not had any problem with heat.

only issue i do have, the dvd player is noisey, and very irritating (hoping the new hd-dvd player will be better), and on TDU, ive also noticed some slow down while the disc seems to catch up with itself.

all in all, id say if you have the spare cash then buy one, but if not just stick to a PC, at end of day thats much better hardware and game wise :)

A console will always be better at games than a pc,
why? because its purpose built and games dont have to be scalable downwards for the lowest common denomintator. The hardware is also the same regardless of console (the core hardware that matters not the fluff), so the software can use it more effectively
If you think a pc can keep up with a console, you are severly misinformed

In terms of Power though a PC shits on a console :p

Thanks for the tip - I don't have any real grumbles about picture quality, it looks pretty but because it is 'always on' I can't use a cheap scart splitter so it's a case of always fiddling round back of TV to switch between DVD and 360 cos it skips like hell when playing DVDs :(

power is pretty irrelevant if it is never used :)

Games liek F.E.A.R are pretty powerfull, infact most PC games have huge scalability. So on min settings a shit pc can run it but on full settings it looks and plays great on a monster computer.

852 x 480. Nuff, said. (Apparently not according to the essay i wrote)

Thats the resolution the Wii renders at, with practically no anti aliasing (From the gameplay videos i've seen). That alone is going to limit the system. In addition:

No HD prospects other than downloaded media (No hddvd/blu ray drive, immediately at least)
No DVD playback out of the box
The console is a generation late (The power of the console was practically possible last generation, or at least at the same time the 360 was available, probably before)
Nintendo never have amazing game contracts
Extra gaming possibilities (gyration controller) means extra development costs ontop of the fact the wii cannot cope with certain games at all (gears of war anyone?)

Considering the PS3 and the 360 both render at 1920 x 1080 (1080P) (correct me if im wrong) the wii is completely outclassed graphics wise.
The PS3 and 360 both have dvd playback out of the box
The PS3 and 360 both have hd prospects (albeit opposing formats)
Both sony and microsoft get really good contracts for games (Sony's exclusivity deal with Rockstar for instance)

However, the amount of fun to be had with this console after a night out on the lash should be pretty amazing. The price sorta makes up for the lack of hd graphics. But for me it simply can't cut it compared with the ps3 and 360.

I'd love for Nintendo to win this round of console wars, i really would, but i just dont think its going to happen.

It depends what market you look at - the 360 has an awful lot of 18 rated games - great for us older gamers but limits the market. Nintendo appear to be bringing gaming to people who are not traditional gamers, through different types of gaming experience (such as Nintendogs for example). The Wii may not win over the hardcore of the older generation of gamers but at least it offers something new and not just same old game mechanics but prettier. Microsoft know they are missing this market - I dont think the appearance of Viva Pinata at around Wii launch date is any coincidence :)

Next generation should be about more than just HD and prettier gamers - where's the real next generation of different gaming experiences coming from?

Nintendo have stopped trying to win the console war tbh, what they have done is sat down and thought yeah x, y & z might by an ps3 or xbox 360, but x & y will buy the Wii aswell because its cheap enough and there will be some fun games available. I dont play a game for graphics, Nintendo as ever will carry on doing what they do and making alot of money from it DS anyone? Winning the hand held wars by a mile. Simple fun and effective.

And xbox360 doesn't get Zelda Twilight Princesse either, so why even bother getting it? :p

ZELDA IS A MUST HAVE! :twak:

I bought Xbox 360 yesterday (with hard drive ofc), and I've liked it thus far. Granted its bit noisy when you insert dvd in to the drive, it starts to spin, and the noise as a result of it can be at times quite irritating.. xbox live seems to be nice as well. I've activated it now as trial tho only, but I might to update it after trial to gold one.

I'm going to buy today a WLan adapter, so I can hook it to my Apple's Airport Express WLan AP.

My xbox is connected to my LCD Tv using RGB (hdtv, 480i), seems nice quality indeed. Wish MS will publish HDMI cable soon to get even better graphic quality displayed to the screen :)

Bought Oblivion for the xbox 360. Seems great in graphics as well. Tho I had some issues with video, it did stutter with regular intervals. I then hooked my xbox to my internet connection, and there was an update to the game, which seemed to fix this problem.

ye i thought it was noisy as fuck too. after a couple of sessions i forgot about it, plus you can just crank the 5.1 up and then you cant hear jack shit.

ive noticed with a DVD film it doesnt do the jet engine noise.
