i dont think thats quite true.

It is true, they wanted a cheaper machine with unique innovation hence how the pads work.

Nintendo will sell alot of consoles because its cheaper than the PS3 and it will include quality games such as the new Zelda :)

The idea on using the pads is very clever, it will mean they have games that cant be ported over to other consoles.

Without good HD-screen and good 5.1-DD/DTS-system I wouldn't bother with Xbox360 - if you have both then its a awesome machine though

In terms of Power though a PC shits on a console :p

xbox360 has a tri or quad core cpu iirc. Also its not running half the things a PC runs so it has no need to be as powerful.

Take AMD and Intel, the AMD chips are of a lesser speed on paper, yet they get more out of them so they rival a more powerful Intel chip.

Lets say we put it in simple terms (not calling you dumb but its easier for me to explain). Most PC's stats are much higher than a console. lets say when you add it all together it comes to 100 points. These 100 points are spread out over 10 instructions so its 10 points each.

A console is listed at 50 points so all the PC fan boi's say "haha noob we x2 powerful" but the console only has 5 instructions so the end result is the same.

Iirc the PS2 had something like a 700mhz CPU and look how well that did!

852 x 480. Nuff, said. (Apparently not according to the essay i wrote)

Thats the resolution the Wii renders at, with practically no anti aliasing (From the gameplay videos i've seen). That alone is going to limit the system. In addition:

No HD prospects other than downloaded media (No hddvd/blu ray drive, immediately at least)
No DVD playback out of the box
The console is a generation late (The power of the console was practically possible last generation, or at least at the same time the 360 was available, probably before)
Nintendo never have amazing game contracts
Extra gaming possibilities (gyration controller) means extra development costs ontop of the fact the wii cannot cope with certain games at all (gears of war anyone?)

Considering the PS3 and the 360 both render at 1920 x 1080 (1080P) (correct me if im wrong) the wii is completely outclassed graphics wise.
The PS3 and 360 both have dvd playback out of the box
The PS3 and 360 both have hd prospects (albeit opposing formats)
Both sony and microsoft get really good contracts for games (Sony's exclusivity deal with Rockstar for instance)

However, the amount of fun to be had with this console after a night out on the lash should be pretty amazing. The price sorta makes up for the lack of hd graphics. But for me it simply can't cut it compared with the ps3 and 360.

I'd love for Nintendo to win this round of console wars, i really would, but i just dont think its going to happen.

Your argument is basically "nintendo dont have as much power so it cant cope". Its not going to be "Splinter Cell released on all 3 consoles, nintendo was the poorest display dont buy it". Nintendo have not got involved with this race because Sony and Microsoft have more money. Nintendo will be attracting a different market so you will have tons of games Nintendo only. People are spending too much time comparing the specs when nintendo never went out to compete on this round of console war.

ok so the ps3 might render better gfx, but tbh, if a games shit, its shit, nomatter whether or not it has pretty gfx.
If a game is good, you can overlook the lower quality gfx, although tbh I dont think its really a problem.
on the 360, i've seen 1 game that looked slightly interesting, that flying one. one the wii, i've seen atleast 4. - red steel, zelda, the flying one, and wii sports.
Why use an old controler when you can play tennis with your controler or sword fight with it.
tbh tris, nintendo have the reputation as one of the most creative make makers on the planet. Mario, Donkey kong, zelda to name but a few. While sony suffer with borning rehashes of tired games, Madden NFL, Carbon, GTA, generic wrestling sim 5 etc etc.

Wii will see :p

the 360 looks excellent on a non hd-screen. its not worthless if you dont have a £2k tv to play it on.

My friend went in a shop and pre-ordered his Wii

Friend:- "Hello i'd like to pre-order a Wii please"
Dosy Shop Assistant:- "Pardon?"
Friend:- "A Nintendo Wii..."
Dosy Shop Assistant:- "Oh I thought you mean...ok hold on a sec"

Anyone else got any weird pre-order tales?

Not worthless but I would take Xbox over Xbox360 for standard TV (lots of good games, about the same graphics/sounds and way cheaper). Suppose its possible to get both Xbox and Wii for the price of Xbox360? That would be awesome deal for someone not being able to take benefit of what Xbox360 can offer (720p and 5.1DD/DTS).

My xbox is connected to my LCD Tv using RGB (hdtv, 480i), seems nice quality indeed. Wish MS will publish HDMI cable soon to get even better graphic quality displayed to the screen
Your TV doesn't have VGA or component input? There is no real difference between component/VGA and DVI/HDMI @ 720p - the difference kicks in @ 1080p (which, for games, Xbox360 doesn't support).

Well the AMD/Intel thing is flawed because while intel do have a higher clock speed AMD chips produce more floating points/clock cycle. Going on clock speed is ignorent and a tool for your average pc world salesman.

Clock speed is not the only thing that is about processer speed.

Yes its obvious that consoles only need to concentrate on gaming and thus don't need as much power. Consoles are good for some games, good to plug in and play but a pc has so many benefits.

I own a 360 but for me it has always been a place filler. In March next year it will get sold and a PS3 will take its place.

For the first HD consol it is great but from the reviews the PS3 has better gfx and will have free online gaming. So if you can wait 6 months :( (not fair) it might be worth holding out

But my biggest problem with the 360 is it looks messy the hard disk makes it look silly then the wifi ariel another external add on i don't like and if i get a hd dvd drive even more add ons :( And if i stub my toe on that power supply again im launching it out a window (if i can lift it ;) )

Dose any one know if the 1080p on the PS 3 will be for games or just movies? that could make the ps3 seem even better?

PS3 cant run Gears of war according to Epic ;) so that's another reason for buying a 360.

My TV has component, composite, vga and HDMI inputs.

What is the reason for using 480i (scart?) then?

Might mix things up. Nevermind :) I read from somewhere that guy from microsoft have said, that they will not release hdmi cable until its sensible thing to do.

Now question: I have Kameleon's one for all (6 devices) universal programmable remote controller. Is there a way to program this remote device to control xbox 360? its possible to be done for xbox 1.

Really wouldn't like to watch dvd movie using as a controller the game pad, nor to buy another remote controller (for xbox 360). I checked from kameleon's website (http://www.oneforall.com), and didn't spot xbox 360 from dvd list as device to be able to be controller with this universal remote controller.. I think I could teach the device, but afaik the game pad doesn't send the commands using IR but radio frequency, so its kinda hard. I would ned to borrow from somewhere the MS's remote device for the xbox 360 to be able to teach the oneforall remote device.

ixoth do you have the 360 yet? its really not difficult using the pad to control a film. press one of the shoulder buttons, chose an option and press B to get rid of OSD.

Yes I have the xbox now :) . I am just so used to use the universal remote controller mate :) - I control my tv, stereo, digi box using one remote controller.

Can anyone here please PM me telling me exactly how to connect xbox 360 to the net using a standard PC net connection? Never done it before.

(Contemplating buying one for the online stuff)

Would like to know what you need to do, the equipment you need (I'm guessing you need a router? - Or would a standard external broadband modem work?)

Cheers.
