The preview on Anandtech makes these things look pretty sweet to me. Any ideas when they might arrive in shops ?

Also if you know a better card to get that doesn't cost the earth please tell me. I'm somewhat out of the hardware loop these days and I desperately need to build a new PC :)

Thanks Wij :/

Was almost ready to buy my PC but now think I'll wait another month to see what's going on with graphics cards. Was gonna get a 6600GT but looks like they could be junk soon.

Anyway I checked the OCuk forums and the head guy posted some stuff:

HI there

X850 XT PE PCI-Express from the likes of PowerColor should be in stock at OcUK in approx 1-3 weeks. Lack of supply and high demand will cause prices to be high so expect them to be around £350.00 +VAT unless ATI surprise us with pricing and stock the price could be lower.

X800 XL PCI-Express we expect to be approx 3-5 weeks away and we expect they will sell for approx £150 - £200 +VAT.

Due to these both been PCI-Express parts we suspect we will see better numbers of these parts but demand for PCI-E is growing very fast and one can only hope ATI realise this.

Don't know how accurate that'll be but it's all I could find.

OCUK are selling their X800XT(PCI-E) for £280 this week, if you're willing to stretch the extra £80!

I was waiting for the 6800GTs to come back in stock but might go for this one now. I've been trying to buy my new system for 2 weeks, but one component or another is always out of stock. Currently waiting for a motherboard, PSU and graphic's card... now I cba waiting any longer, so will buy the rest of the PC + X800XT, and the mobo+PSU when they're in stock :x

Out of interest I priced it up and its not as much of a rip off as you suggest if I were to buy the stuff myself.

cpu £558
MoBo £82
DDR £304
Graphics card £352
Sound card £117
DVD burner £43
CD RW £17
2X HDs £242
Case ? but lets say £120
PSU £60
Win XP pro £92
Add £20 for the keyboard and mouse they provide.
256MB flash drive £26
floppy £5
Mousemat £ 16
T-shirt £ 15
Thats £2069

On top of that theres building it , installing the software
A 2 year back to base warrenty
24/7 technical support
Other proprietary software {not sure if this includes HL2}
Also shipping costs about £100

So I reckon Id have saved myself about 400 quid without a warrenty etc.

I used overclockers for prices as they seem reasonable

yeah its the audigy 2 7.1 surround sound Platinum edition mate.
Has a remote and a breakout box with it.
I think the shipping costs reflects the value of the item/weight.

£558 on a processor? £358 on a graphics card? Both these will be superceded very quickly, and especially with processors, paying for the top of the range one doesn't mean your getting your moneys worth in performance terms.

That OCuk guy has posted more interesting stuff. Got that forum bookmarked now :)

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?threadid=17349380

Hi there

A quick summary:-

NVIDIA

nVidia 6200 PCI-Express - Plenty of models available and all in stock.

nVidia 6600 PCI-Express - A large range with all models in stock.

nVidia 6600 GT PCI-Express - The largest range in the UK with most models in stock including some high performance models from Leadtek and Gainward.

nVidia 6600 GT AGP - OcUK has the largest range in the UK with plenty of most models in stock, SHOP AT OCUK!!

nVidia 6800 LE AGP - A few models in stock, best buy is easily the Aopen 6800 LE with DOOM3 so BUY IT!!

nVidia 6800 AGP - Largest range in the UK with all models in stock!!

nVidia 6800 GT AGP - Yet again the largest range in the UK with all models in stock too.

nVidia 6800 Ultra AGP - Gainward and XFX models in stock and our prices are amongst the best if not the best PLUS WE HAVE STOCK!!

nVidia 6800 PCI-Express - Leadtek and MSI models in stock and these are SLi compatible!!

nVidia 6800 GT PCI-Express - Stock arriving towards the end of next week to fulfill backorders and we should have enough for FREE STOCK too, so get ordering!!

nVidia 6800 Ultra PCI-E - We suspect these will start showing up within the next 2-4 weeks in limited quantities, we shall add them too pre-orders when we establish allocation and dates for arrival.

ATI

ATI X300 PCI-Express - A decent range with all models in stock!!

ATI X600 PCI-Express - Good range with all models in stock.

ATI X700 Pro PCI-Express - Large range with all models in stock.

ATI X700 XT PCI-Express - Discontinued due to yield problems.

ATI X800 XT PCI-Express - We have ATI made X800 XT PCI-E in stock which is the best price in the UK. We also have Asus and MSI models in stock too along with some Sapphire.

ATI X800 XT PE PCI-Express - We have a few Asus models left, this range is now been discontinued.

ATI X850 XT PCI-Express - We expect to recieve stock towards end of next week on these cards. They will be added to the site when they arrive, so keep an eye out as it will be first come first served basis. We are expecting to recieve quite a lot of these.....

ATI X850 XT PE PCI-Express - Stock arriving towards end of next week. Limited quantities and it will be a case of keep an eye on the site and be ready to order....

ATI X800 Pro PCI-Express - PowerColor cards in stock at OcUK at just £205 +VAT no one can compete with OcUK on this product, we are by far the cheapest!!

ATI X800 XL PCI-Express - Were expecting a huge shipment towards end of next week with plenty to go round and price will be approx £220 +VAT.....

ATI X800 Pro AGP - Largest range in the UK with all models in stock and also at some of the cheapest prices in the UK!!

ATI X800 XT AGP - Powercolor models in stock at OcUK in good numbers and our price is the best in the UK too, plus we have stock and no one else does, or very little.....

ATI X800 XT PE AGP - OcUK has stock of PowerColor and Asus models and is again the best price in the UK plus the only E-Tailor with stock.

As you can see the stock situation is excellent, we have the largest range and are also carrying stock of many in demand products and are the only reseller to have such good levels of stock. Our pricing is very competitive and on some lines can't be touched. Were gonna be first with stock of X850's and X800 XL's and are the only UK supplier to have already recieved and shipped good number of 6800 GT PCI-Express VGA cards, with more stock expected very soon. Basically OcUK is now the daddy and is un-matched when it comes to VGA products!!
