Have to admit the problems I had years ago with ATi Card drivers still has a big influence on my more recent choices as well. Human nature I guess. You get burned once and think twice about trying again. Just ordered these bad boys myself, bloody out of stock though so having to wait for a delivery date

Dear lord don't go for an ATI card yes they offer a nice price but they will never shake that title of "bad drivers" and for the most part its true.

Very very outdated view. They used to be plain awful for it but now it's actually easier to find the right ATI drivers then it is for Nvidia and they're updated very regularly without issues.

They are slow at updating their drivers, also games that use physX sometimes ATI cards don't take to them well.

You're right, ATI cards don't do particularly well with NVIDIA Geforce Physx. That is probably the biggest downer getting an ATI card but when you're looking at a massively reduced price for the same performance (unless my 6 month old view has changed now?) it's a no brainer when you're on a lower budget. Basically, if you're spending a fair amount (i.e. £250+) go for NVidia because it'll run anything and have all the gubbins including PhysX. If under that amount, go for ATI and deal with missing very little and reducing your price. Spend the extra on a better processor or RAM.

A good few years back I ditched ATI and when Nvidia for a few years. Over the past 5 years or so I have used probably 5 different ATI cards with no driver issues whatsoever...

Bang for buck, Nvidia have underperformed for several years now. 3-4 years ago I wouldn't touch them. Nowadays there isn't a lot of difference between the same spec Nvida vs ATI...except the price tag. You're far better off going for ATI.

Sorry to quote myself, but also, my PC randomly crashes every now and again and freezes (Music plays like really slowly) I'd imagine that's the processor more than anything or?

both of them cards would be bottlenecked by your processor if it's that old.

I didn't realise how much my 6970 was being held back by my processor but more importantly, my RAM and sadly, this is an area where I personally think AMD do fall down on...CPUs. So you may not see a massive difference but I could be wrong...what RAM are you currently running?

It doesn't matter buddy, the fact is the processor is very very old in terms of how fast processors have come a long these days and AMD processors do NOT age well at all.

I bet your RAM is still DDR2 as well? that will also have a factor.

Like I said to you the other day on Steam you need a brand new PC, the graphics cards you are looking at would not be able to bump the performance up and would even be held back by your processor.

It's not nice to think you have to spend money on a new PC lets face it they aren't cheap but in your case there isn't much choice

Isn't the 660 being phased out for the 760

660 Ti > 660.
760 replaces the 660 Ti.

I've already seen some 760's for around the £170 mark.

I'm currently packing a 560 Ti, bought as a budget card as I was building three pc's over a short space of time and I'm very impressed with it, plays everything I've thrown at it in 1080P with most games running in ultra and averaging 60+fps. some older titles are hitting 150-300fps, so I'd definitely consider a 760. might actually pick one up as a stopgap until I can afford the 780, then hand the 760 down to the kid.
