"SWG >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DAoC"!!!!

Nope

Coz DAOC is not the same game than when SWG went gold at summer 2003.

ToA+NF+Catacombs+WoW (could add the unplayable Opentranshit) is a dreaded combo for DAOC. EU server population is decreasing bit a bit with the passing of the weeks (compared with the 2900+ players online prime time average back at summer-autumm 2003), dont think Excalibur will reach the 1800+ players edge by June 2005.

WoW >>>>>>> Daoc
played a warlock til lvl 25 and they wtfpwn, as ppl already said, graphics is very nice and questing is great. After US beta closed felt shit to go back to Daoc, thats why im also gonna quit asap when EU wow is released. Damn fun game. Best part was that i dont get so fecking pissed after everytime i played, that i get when i play Daoc :) And now with NF there are like 0 reasons to stay in daoc imo, atleast not for me, daoc aint nomore what it once was..... :(

People who are saying WoW is better than DAoC on the basis of playing a few levels in a beta test are being very, very silly.

1. You have no idea whether the end game will be any good. Where DAoC is all about the end game (probably 95% of the people playing at the moment have at least one level 50), WoW presently has no end game.
2. PvP at the moment is largely an unknown. Yes, of course we've had a few fights - but have we had any massed battles of fully twinked out high level characters? Until we do, we really don't know how PvP is going to work.
3. Balance: We have no clue how well or badly the game will be balanced once we reach the situation of having a large number of high level/twinked characters.

WoW is promising, but saying that it's better - or worse - than DAoC is really comparing an acorn to an oak tree.

WoW low levels bitchslaps DAoC low levels. That makes me optimistic about high level content regarding how Blizzard usually works when they make games from a specific genre. It usually works out to be playable.

I'm not actually sure that's all that true. I remember enjoying low levels in DAoC a lot when I first when through them (hell I spent enough time doing it!). WoW is completely new and therefore is going to be more enjoyable.

And, of course, Catacombs brings a huge load more low level interesting content.

True? This is just the opinions of me and alot of other players I've talked to.

Looking past that WoW is new it's easily noticed that WoW is more intuitive with layout and generally how things work. When you have played high levels in both games, both low level areas will be of less interest. The point is that it gives you something by questing, by exploring, by simply moving around. The world is much more interative, that isn't even something to discuss. ;)

The graphics are more vivid and colourful. When night comes you don't have to rely on having the right gamma settings on your gfx card/screen, night is just darker, not paler. The world is more alive. Even though grinding mobs IS faster it doesn't appear so if you play normally, the illusion of getting big chunks of xp from quests makes it look like the progress is bigger. Thus you can have fun not grinding mobs. Crafting is so much better implemented into your gameplay and is not as much of a grind as daoc's crafting is.

The game IS newer, it's better done because Blizzard have picked up flaws of other games and improved things. That's what they do. They aren't extremely innovative, but they sure make games that appear polished and well-thought-out.

Might be only me but I abosutely hate the WoW-gfx. Its like taking pills non stop, all is purple and round and if you stand close to an object or player you can actually count the pixels...

Some love the GFX style, others hates it.. But one thing is sure it fits the warcraft universe perfect :)

WOW needs more classes and more variation in appearence on character creation.

I mean if you go horde you can pick an orc which looks cool, and those taurens which look cool (unless u wear a dress). All else looks so ugly you just dont wanna play it.

Thing is you can customise the features and hair and all that but ultimatly your all identical stature. For a game thats about to be launched you could argue the daoc character creation is better or has more diversity. This really gets on my goat because the attention to detail in the WOW world itself is just so damn good its scary. but the class and characterisation limitations are just lazy, prolly enough to put me off the game. you will just be grinding another toon identical to some 200K other dudes.

and PVP is going to be limited purly by the lack of classes and variety. If they dont add more classes you will be bored of PVP within 1-2 weeks.

Biggest dissapointment so far (at level 40) is the lack of variety on character specialization. It just feels like that if you're a hunter, you're exactly the same as every other hunter. Talents don't offer enough variety to it really.

Well if there is one thing we learnt from daoc it's that it's not very hard to add new chars and/or new abilities to chars. It's got to the point now though in daoc were the realms already have too many classes and there seems almost no point adding more.

At least with WoW they have started with a fairly small amount so they can add more in expansions. I agree that atm there is little variation between horde and alliance, this makes it easy to balance and hopefully they will add more "realm" unique chars in the future (when they know more about balancing the end game). There also seems a small lack of variation between different specs on the same class, again though this is so easy to change.

I've had lots of fun in the open beta, got a priest to 36 without even trying too hard and with no grinding at all. I really liked exploring the world and learning the instances, each new zone and new dungeon had a very different feeling and I often found myself just looking at the scenery like a tourist in some foreign land. The gameplay is pretty fun and all classes have many different skills that are useful in each fight, you can really tell the difference when someone is playing well on any character.

Personally I would play wow even if it was 100% pve :) The leveling itself is fun for me and there's plenty to do there to last a long while, even after maxing a couple classes to 60 there's still the option of changing faction and trying new races, new quests and a new perspective.

The pvp at the moment is incomplete, I've done a lot of fighting on the last day and I wasn't dissapointed, there was lots of action and it felt balanced. It's lacking a purpose right now but I guess this will get sorted out eventually. I'm really looking forward to the battlegrounds that will be added as I'm not very interested in the pvp server (feels too much like camlann).

The main selling point though, is that I actually have faith in blizzard delivering good improvements to this game over time, faith that I absolutely do not have for mythic. They really lack talent and will not make daoc more fun or more balanced no matter how many expansions they'll be releasing (at least for me, I'm sure some are enjoying NF now).

If you play using the worst graphics settings available, I understand what you're talking about. If you tune it up it looks great. The textures and lighting etc have much more depth than daoc has anyway. And it runs smoother.

Have you played it?

I agree with the people saying it doesn't have very good options of character customizing though..

less classes=easier to balance.
character stature is pretty much the same in almost every game
why do you play daoc if you have all these whines about wow that do them 10x as good as daoc(1552526 classes excepted)

Personally, I enjoyed WoW beta. But will I swap it for Daoc or SWG? Nah. Not until I know if its going to suck at high level.

Yup Da Wabbit has.

I agree. It's cartoony, silly graphics. It wouldn't put me off if the gameplay was amazing, but it's not. It's really good PvE questing, and... ummm... that's it.

no, not 100% true.
its the 6 out of 7 classes are exactly the same on both sides that makes it easier to balance :p

Yes, it's a new game.

The point is that you enjoyed the beta. You THINK, GAMBLE on that wow high levels is going to suck. You made up your mind before you played it and you don't want to change the idea you had of it. ;)

What exactly is it with wow low levels that makes you think the high levels is going to suck? You have no idea whatsoever, there's no indication that it's going to since there's released so little information on it.

You don't have to decide if you want to swap a game before it's out, but to downtalk it now, before you know anything about what you're talking about is just silly.

I am optimistic because of what I have seen so far, you are pessimistic because of what you haven't seen. This looks like it applies to alot of people to be honest.

Gordonax said:

What makes that the truth? It could just as easily be the other way around. The vast majority of the people who have tested it seems to disagree rigorously with what Divinia claims though. Claims that aren't exactly well arguemented.

If Divinia expected an orgasm from playing wow, I understand that he's disappointed though.

You are aware of that what you describe as 'really good PvE questing' was all that really was implemented in the BETA(!) you tried? That's it. Oh, except the crafting, which I take it you're going to say is boring compared to DAoC's crafting? ;)

I think some of you are just too scared to try a new MMORPG and realise you might get addicted to that one aswell. "On some level we really don't want to play MMORPGS's, that's why we decide to not like a new one." MMORPG's made you scared of how much time you really put into them.

What I wrote just now about you being too scared is just as illinformed as what you are chanting doom about now. It CAN be true, but it's just grasping for straws and can't be taken seriously if you're going to judge it by facts.

It doesn't change the fact that looking at what WoW contains so far has better solutions and features than what DAoC currently has.

Play it, or don't play it. That's totally up to your self, but if you don't want to play, there's no reason to 'create' ideas of a game that doesn't reflect how it plays or perhaps WILL play.

I haven't said a single word on how high end WoW will be, but based on the low end it looks promising and to predict the high end to be doomed based on nothing but speculation is stupid at best.

I've played DAoC on and off since beta.
I started playing live DAoC only due to low level beta experience and back then I played on a french (don't ask) server so I didn't even know anybody on Excal before the game going live.
I certainly think the same is possible with WoW; where people can think the game is good based on a few low level characters in beta.

Only reason I can think of buying it indeed.

Where's the fun in a game where everyone is the same?

About a game being boring: yes getting yet another toon to 50 in Daoc is boring cos you have seen it all....after 2.5 years in alb I finally tried a toon in hibernia and I played one night till level 10...all scenery was new, quests were new and it didnt get boring 1 single second...only difference with WoW is that level 1 - 10 in daoc takes a few hours (no twinking, no buffbot etc) where level 1-10 in WoW takes 25 seconds...Most of the people that like WoW are totally bored of Daoc and had been looking for a replacement for their addiction since AC2 came out. AC2 failed horribly, as did Horizons, DE never made beta and except for EQ2 there's nothing to wait for or try in stead of Daoc.

About the gfx: you either love them or hate them. About putting it to higher detail to get "awesome" gfx I dont agree...been playing on a P4, 1gig memory, Ati radeon 9800 XT on a 8mbit adsl line....playing at highest quality gfx possible and still the gfx look silly (to me that is!) if you stand close to a player or object you can still tell excatly how many pixels are used to make something...its not just the "comic" look that turns me off...but like I said..that might just be me...
