How come a third world country like sweden can get this before the uk?

A guy at my old work explained this to me its the ratification or something. The goverment will not sign it off and let people sell it untill a percentage of the country can get it and every operator that wants too can sell it. Like the Monopoly Comission helping us again.
BT invented ADSL by the time they were allowed to sell 512 k they had invented 8mb but could not sell it as they were the only ones that could or something like that.
In short its the goverments fault![]()
OK!
Our phonelines in the UK are so old and slow that they cant support high speed connections, especially if you out in the sticks.
People like the Koreans and the Japanese saw Broadband etc coming, so they upgraded all their telephone lines, and thus they have things like 60 mb connections, for half the price that we get our 1-2meg connection and such.

Because the UK has a shit old infrastructure.
yeah and thats why on this old slow technology a new bit of kit is release that lets broadband go further. From what your saying you seem to belive still if your 800 yards from the exchange you get nothing. But with ADSL2 you can be 2 miles away and get 2mb. While fiber to every house would be faster the technology is there to get everyone the internet over a phone line.
BT keep saying we're getting things ready for the 21st Century Network, if that means fibre I don't know. But they really should re-think the current frame structure, it wasn't made to have so many wires being re-wired to different equipment and you can see in some London exchanges the frame dips under the weight of so much wiring..The more these old frames are used, the harder it will be to upgrade :/

well you stick with your medieval copper lines, i will stick with my 10mb which is soon going upto 20mb.
they already restrict torrent downloads most of the time, if i leave something DLing overnight i can usually get a few gig downloaded, for the same time period in the evening i can probably DL about 200 meg by torrent
There was one slightly faster than this in the US a while ago (Educational/Govemental test line) which was like.. 14.5tb a second o_o
That's still fucking fast for a end user though.
