mmmmmmmm, Koreans :twak:

and the whole point of WoW is its easy-mode beginner MMO, so it attracted all the noobs, all the warcraft fanboys and everyone else, and like the black death, just cos its shite, doesnt mean you can ignore it :p

the reason you will never understand is because you have that mentality
the very fact that there is a very significant number of MMPORG vetrans in the game show you everyone who isnt a "noob" doesnt agree with you.

and lets face it thats the only thing daoc excelled at was the pvp the rest was mediocre at best and ridiculously easy if you knew what you were doing. I actually found wow pvp more challenging and involving than daoc's ever was, thats not to say daoc wasnt enjoyable at times after all i was hooked for 3 yrs (later stages being the people rather than the game that kept me interested) but i can honestly say it was a very rate occurance that i felt challenged.

Wow is not shite because 4+ million people log in and waste time away on it, it did what daoc could never do bring MMPORG's to a casual audience. That was what it was designed to do from the ground up, and i would say it pretty much achieved its objective. All they need to do is introduce open-pvp and i would say that the game is the best available until possible age of conan/war (which hasnt looked impressive so far)

Um, if Blizzard launch another MMORPG based on one of their franchises, wont that put them in direct competition with... themselves?

If you remember how many years it took for WoW to be announced, developed and released you will realise that WoW will not be such a big contender for WoS when it comes out.

l2read.."and everyone else"

untrue. it had far better pve at the time it came out, than EQ, UO, AO, etc in many peoples eyes. (go on, disagree with me so you can look petty, you know you want to ). and i presume when you first started playing, you had a lvl 50 toon in a few days, it never died either ? no ? define "easy" then.

you werent challenged by PVP ? seeing as it was ENTIRELY player driven, you are saying everyone on your server was of a lower standard than you ? right, ok, whatever.

yes, and as i said in previous post, its MMO easy mode, designed for people who are not hard core MMO players, but it stays in that rut. making a dungeon you require a seperate set of armour for is not "hard" its a "t i m e s i n k" , so all the noobs can do it, and all the hardcore mmo players can then procede to get every piece of gear in the game and hang around waving it at people so they can "look hard".

All they need to do is introduce open-pvp and i would say that the game is the best available until possible age of conan/war (which hasnt looked impressive so far)
well thats your opinion, and your entitled to it - but thats what world pvp was for, and all it ended up with is the lvl 70s ganking the low lvl NPCs, quest mobs etc... yeah thats fun and rewarding isnt it :puke:

i think it sounds cool but then i guess you can class me in there with the "blizzard fanbois" :p

i enjoyed playing WoW but it never had the pull DAoC had on me (more because of the people in DAoC though tbh, after years playing with one group of people it was abit odd leaving them all behind and being abit overwhelmed by thousands of randomers)

About being a cashcow? Well DUH...every game makes a profit or dies. It's a business, not a charity. Doesn't mean that any game from Blizzard has been a bad knockoff game. Starcraft vs Warcraft as an example. Well i would like it, even if it was a copy version of WoW.

Why? Because WoW works.

Sure it's gotten a bad rep from the "eleet" DAoC and other MMO playerbase, but that's just small kids and fanbois(, ironically, which wow is accused of) crying because other people like it in mass.

If WoW was a 30.000 subscriber game, noone would care. But as it is, it's popular, it's a good MMO(sure nothing groundbraking, but everything works) and everyone and their grandmother use it as an example on how their MMO is better.

Now what would a starcraft MMO do then? Bring more stories, more RPG and more stuff to do for the starcraft fans(this will especially be a hit in eastern nations like korea) and bring more games to the market with a spesific background.

If you take a look at DAoC and WoW, they ain't that different, some parts WoW has better, some parts DAoC might claim supremacy.

And about WoW being "easy mode MMO"...well...show me any MMO where there's a REAL challenge in gaining level whatchimichanga, no grind and no "item hunting" and i'll show you the last MMO we ever see. Every MMO ahs these elements.

Am I missing something? This hasn't been announced it's just a rumour that Blizz might announce WoSC shortly. Just like everyone was saying they were going to announce Starcraft 2 ages ago or Diablo 3 a few years back.

I have completed almost every instance and mob in daoc at some point with 3 active people or less, the only reason it doesnt happen anymore is because
a) the people who used to do it got bored and moved on
b) later on they added high ABS/AF or anti-focus mechanisms to stop people, like myself, from abusing it.
If you can say it challenged you, fine thats your opinion, but anyone who knew what they were doing will disagree with you. Im sure there was equivalents on other servers, but on mid/exca but ask the likes of Danord or Ardamel how hard it is to pve in daoc and you will get your answer

Changed in burning crusade, which kind of nullifies your argument. Now you dont even have to pve to get gear as you can buy it with points gained in pvp. As well as the fact most instances can now be done using 1-2 grps

World pvp has no purpose, nor does it focus groups at choke points which is why it is badly implemented. I also said pvp in wow was what was broken so i dont get your point, are you agreeing with me? :S
rofl chronic, didnt you make that rofl grp Aftermath.. which you could easily kill with a trio ;<
I tried to make a new grp in a dying rvr scene when there was little or no fg action for people like myself who work for a living, i apologise if that offends you :wanker:

that the guy that spammed frontal styles from behind with style cancel on or some such? :p

thats the one, when the server is empty its a little difficult to be selective ;)
That and the fact i never had any intention of making a "leet" grp simply a grp to play in the evenings so i let anyone who wanted to play regularly and have fun join. A concept sadly lost on most people like Eversmall

Starcraft was fun, but it was really just rednecks in space. Warhammer 40K has a very rich and detailed background :)

no you missed the point yourself. when they came in , you sure as hell couldnt do thing like legion or dragons with small groups, they had to be zerged down. they gear was improved, TOA etc , the mobs werent upgraded. thigns change, INITIALLY they were challenging tho.

Was a mistype, i meant pve
fair enough

depends what armour you want, and the PVE sets require attunement and faction grinding. but yes you can pvp for it, tho that can take just as long with BG queues.

make your mind up. you want OPEN PVP - hello world PVP. yet argue its shit? thats subjective, yes i think it is, but the open pvp is there. It only requires aggression or /pvp flagging, or would you rather be able to run around killing grey cons like DAOC ?

Yep exactly, but as it is now is what i am talking about, I completely agree when daoc started it was a challenge. BUT they made it easier and easier until it is what it is today. We aren't comparing what the 2 games were but what they are now.

Fair point, i personally didnt get any queues as i chose a reasonably low pop server to start on but as more people join im sure it will happen eventually

No, i guess i didnt explain myself properly.
Open-pvp in wow is crappy because there is no purpose, in daoc there was always the relics which made a difference, in wow you just go into a zone kill a few people and you have made no difference (other than some zones where you get the tokens etc), if the villages were capturable or something now that would make it worth it. Thats what i meant by the open pvp in wow being crappy.
They have instanced combat, which is fine if you like that but i miss the element of random in daoc where you could be fighting and all of a sudden more people turn up.
That said its only really a matter of time before the situation is improved, as they prooved with the new expansion they are actively implementing things that people ask for, whether thats a good or bad approach? time will tell.

From what i read:

There's NO level gains, so no challenge in it either.

There's grind to gain more capital, more ships and even the largest part of the game, grinding missions to give your nation ports.

Also there's no item hunting 'cause there's no(non i found) customization.

Also the gameworld resets every now and then, which i deem a bit iffy for a MMO game.

Removing the things i mentioned doesn't make a better MMO, it makes it simpler, not better.

What i meant is, show an MMO that -has- REALLY challenging levelling/character developement, no grinding(so much content that you never have to repeat yourself) to gain capital and a game where noone goes after special items. It's hard to find 'cause that's what makes a game, a game. In some ways.

By the way, pirates doesn't seem like a "real" mmo game, well, it's massively multiplayer allright, but not in the "classic" sense. It's more like...planetside?
