Barry's still shite though, but Milner (sp?) played ace.

P.s. wtf is going on with FH l8tly its impossible to post normally.

Barry played really well for us, as always he does the dirty work, and he's good at it. Not sure why you think he was bad....

As for the forums, Deebs is fiddling with things to improve performance, so expect fuck ups while he tinkers.

Using fullbacks as your only width leaves you massively exposed against sides with pace, try it against Portugal and we won't just get beaten we will be hammered. That tactic works against the lesser sides but even Serbia will break us down playing that way, your full backs just end up running back and forth for 60 mins until the pace/heat kill them and suddenly massive gaps open up.

Brazil have used the 4-2-2-2 formation for years and years. They have tweaked it to 4-2-3-1 and their full backs do fine.

Glen Johnson and Ashley Cole are attacking full backs and proved for the hundreth time they can cope with this style.

That's because both Gilberto Silva and Felipe Melo sit back, we'd only have Gareth Barry sitting back and could easily be outnumbered

Better performance.

Barry needs to stop giving the ball away though, did it a few times too many, and they looked a lot better when they were passing about and not trying to force a pass through.

Much better performance. Terry and Ashley Cole were superb at the back. Terry's attempt to head a ball about 5 inches from the ground, just after diving in to block a shot summed up his commitment :)

Fair point, but I think the team could pull it off against the bigger teams.
Chelsea played 4-1-2-1-2 and did fine with it.

Oh shit that drive is a bastard, the roads aren't too bad but the standard of driving is scary, please pass that along bud and tell him to take it really easy. Better to be on the road for 2 extra hours and safe rather than drive like the locals and risk a bump. I did the Jo'burg to Durban drive a few years ago and that was no fun either, the local blacks drive like madmen and way too many of thier cars are not road worthy. While I was over there the news reported a big smash where an illegal taxi (which had brake discs that should have been replaced 30,000 miles previously had) ploughed into a car that was slowing down for bend. His breaks totally failed and a pile-up ensued.

I don't mean to be a wet fish but honestly, make sure you have a word with him.

He's aware of the "mission" ahead of him, and has like 5 other blokes with him so they'll take shifts, he's spoke to people from the Lions tour, they said the roads were pretty much dirt tracks, I think that's what he's worried about and if some somalian pirates are about, I'm sure the SA government will pull up their socks and get more police out and about tbh.

Cheers for your comments though :)

I'd be pretty surprised if he ran into a Somalian pirate boat on land.

England only just scraped thru today.

If they played someone like Argentina or Brazil, they'd get their arse handed to them on a plate. Those south american chaps play a different game. The Brazilians' passing is sublime and the Argentine's energy makes the English look sluggish (which they are - they just stand there all the time - the africans & south americans are moving all the time - so much NRG)

So what do you reckon?

Germany in 2nd round.

Argies in quarters?

Portugal in semis?

God wouldn't be cruel enough to let us get past all those and into the final just for us to lose right? :p

Getting past Germany will be bad enough; Ozil will be running the show if Barry doesn't turn up.

Reckon Fabio may look at 5 across midfield and Rooney up top alone?

Couldn't beleive it in the pub today. So many scarfers in their England shirts barely watching the game whilst me and my mate were there kicking every ball.

At the end when we won, obvious relief at getting through but then the almost instant come down on hearing the USA score.

So whilst the pub put 3 Lions on full blast for a sing song we cursed at everyone because we realised that instead of the might of the likes of Ghana and Uruguay in future rounds we were heading for Germany and Argentina.

I'll be watching at home on Sunday.

But, Germany have looked nothing special after the first game and Argentina are weak at the back. Come on England! :england:

Whatever the result it will be a heck of a game on Sunday. Would have much preferred to play the Australians but we can thank Robert Green for that...

People say that England have no chance but we always rise to the occasion.

I think we play better against big teams, the players turn off far too often against supposed "lesser" opponents. For once in perfect agreement with you, well nearly - Australia did not qualify, Ghana were the 2nd place team in Group D on goal difference.

Sunday for the 2nd round, Saturday for the Quarters. Pub heaven and the supermarkets will be delighted if it happens. It is good for morale and good for the economy. :)
