So what he said about players getting in the squad on merit was a big load of shit then.

I know he has not scored a goal from open play in the last... 7 games or something? (dont think he scored in final game).

It poor poor play picking some these players. . . carragher shouldnt be there. Defoe shouldnt be there.

A.Young should be there etc etc

Awful picking, not done it by form at all and just gone for the usual suspects.

Strange squad. From a Villa point of view I can understanding Downing not being there, he's not been 100% since coming back from injury. But missing out Ashley Young?! Madness. SWP has his uses, but carrying the teams drinks should be his main one. Can't cross, pace and a decent shot are only his attributes, ditto Walcott.

Also surprised that Gabby didn't at least make the 30, he has a lot more to his game than Defoe and Crouch. On the other hand I'm surprised Warnock made the 30 - his form in the last few months has been average at best.

Some truly odd choices, including all the players called up with no caps at all. What were all the friendlies scheduled for again? Strange. Quarter finals here we come.

We'll have to see who makes the final cut, injuries may still result in changes. I think Capello is riding his luck with the form of a few of his choices, but I suppose he has a month to evaluate his decisions.

Teams to watch for will be:

Holland, Spain, Argentina, Brasil, Germany & Italy

No England, your not a favorit
I'd place you on the same level as Portugal, Chile, France, ect.

As for Denmark ?
If you'd have asked me prior to the winter break, I would have said we stood a good chance
of making it out of the group stage. But with the current number of inactives and injured players ?
I dout it, i hope they get through, but I dout it.

However!
if they make it through, anything can happen, this goes for all the teams tbh.

suprised no zamora shawcross wes brown or owen hargreaves even in the last 30 and no ashley young is a total farce

heskey is shocking at best, even ive got to admit carragher is past it, king can't paly more than 1 game every 10 days and can't train inbetween

also he has picked 3 left backs

and 1 right back, why not wes brown or richards as back up? or even neville?

theirs 6 centre backs thier as well i think so 2 of them will be dropped, unless he uses carragher as backup for johnson at RB?

also 4 right wingers and no left midfeilders other than adam johnson who i can't see starting, so i guess joe cole takes up the left wing again (which isnt a bad thing i think he's still one of eglands best players)

France have dropped Nasri and Benezema. The sooner they get rid of Domenech the better.

2 players for me to watch then, Milijas and Guerdiola both called up by their respective countries, hope they make the final cut ;D.

Also nice that Pedro has forced his way into the Spain setup, guessing Marc happy with that?

Its a special kind of pain watching your club players play at International level, particularly in a World Cup. Mind you the moment of pure ecstasy caused by David Platt's goal against Belgium in Italia 90 is worth 100 Gareth Southgate style Euro 96 penalty misses.

EDIT: The French squad is very strong but no Benzema?! What the heck!

I am yes, hes a had a great season. DOnt get me wrong, im under no illusions that hes the next messi or anything like that, but hes a good player and could certainly become a very good player.

Just look at the midfield ..wow. I dont think there is a better contingent of midfield players anywhere (if they all recover from injury that is)

Spain has been blessed with central midfielders for many years, it funny when you think that Cesc can rarely get in the starting team.

France dropped Benzema, but even with public opinion wanting him dropped they kept Ribery the "child" shagger! (lose terms due to her being legal in most countries)

Hmm, anyone heard what happened with ribery actually? Did the court of arbitration for sport have a hearing or did ribery give up and accept his final ban?

The Argies have left Cambiasso out. Wow.

Goalkeepers: Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Diego Pozo (Colon)

Defenders: Nicolas Burdisso (Inter Milan), Martin Demichelis (Bayern Munich), Walter Samuel (Inter Milan), Gabriel Heinze (Olympique Marseille), Nicolas Otamendi (Velez Sarsfield), Fabricio Coloccini (Newcastle), Juan Manuel Insaurralde (Newell's Old Boys), Clemente Rodriguez (Estudiantes), Ariel Garce (Colon)

Midfielders: Javier Mascherano (Liverpool), Sebastian Blanco (Lanus), Juan Sebastian Veron (Estudiantes), Jesus Datolo (Olympiacos), Jose Sosa (Estudiantes), Maximiliano Rodriguez (Liverpool), Mario Bolatti (Fiorentina), Juan Mercier (Argentinos Juniors), Angel Di Maria (Benfica), Jonas Gutierrez (Newcastle), Javier Pastore (Palermo)

Forwards: Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Diego Milito (Inter Milan), Martin Palermo (Boca Juniors), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City), Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli).

A squad fit for group stage humiliation.

Why would that squad have that much problems coming out of their group? They have a great offense and some really good defenders, some decent midfielders aswell...

Veron's never been out of favour in the argie squad though Cokenose, he's a brilliant player suited to spanish and italian style footy, or internationals.

Cambiasso being left out is ridiculous. Zenith - he's their best midfielder by a mile, defensively brilliant, plays for the team.

He is getting a bit old tho.. Why they've kept Cambiasso out is beyond me

If I were in his fotty-boots I'd be WELL pissed! :D

Also the Danish squad

Goalkeepers: Thomas Sørensen (Stoke City), Stephan Andersen (Brøndby IF), Kim Christensen (IFK Göteborg), Jesper Christiansen (FC København)

1) 4 Keepers!? 2) Stephan Andersen and Kim Christensen? 3) If you are to pick 4 keepers atleast pick Brian the Beast!

Defense: William Kvist (FC København), Lars Jacobsen (Blackburn), Simon Kjær (Palermo), Per Krøldrup (Fiorentina), Daniel Agger (Liverpool), Patrick Mtiliga (Malaga), Simon Poulsen (AZ Alkmaar)

Midfield: Martin Jørgensen (AGF), Christian Poulsen (Juventus), Daniel Jensen (Werder Bremen), Jakob Poulsen (AGF), Michael Silberbauer (Utrecht), Dennis Rommedahl (Ajax), Jesper Grønkjær (FC København), Thomas Kahlenberg (Wolfsburg), Thomas Enevoldsen (Groningen), Michael Krohn-Dehli (Brøndby), Christian Eriksen (Ajax), Mikkel Beckmann (Randers)!

1) Martin Jørgensen! FUCK! Came home from Italy during the winter break to a squad that was in 3rd place at the time and now they are in the relegation-zone! 2) Dennis Rommedahl.. Couldn't cross for the life of him! 3) Mikkel beckmann.. Just fuck! 4) No Perez/Løvenkrands! Would have loved to see them both in, but Perez is apparently quitting his career after he won the Dutch Championship with Twente and Løvenkrands is putting the national team on stand-by because his father passed away and he would like to put more focus on his club and family :(

Forwards: Jon Dahl Tomasson (Feyenoord), Søren Larsen (Duisburg), Nicklas Bendtner (Arsenal)

1) Jon Dahl is beyond old! Can't remember the last time he actually scored whilst playing for Denmark 2) No Mads Juncker.. WTF!? The boy scored 21 goals this season and he's not in the squad?

4-4-1-1 formation here we come -.-

"John Terry has today taken a knock in training and has gone to hospital for a precautionary scan on his right foot.
He left Cobham walking freely in a protective boot, and we await the results which are expected on Thursday."

There goes our last fit good defender :p
