No one hates the Danish team. Its a shame to see them licking the coach windows. :( Poor wee things. Your heart goes out to them

i was just trying to come up with a 30 man prelim. squad, and it was fucking hard work finding 30 decent players:

Hart, Green, Kirkland

A. Cole, Lescott, Warnock, Johnson, Brown, Dawson, Ferdinand, Terry, Upson, Richards

Lampard, Gerrard, Lennon, Downing, Milner, Carrick, Shaun-Wright Phillips, A. Young, Hargreaves, Barry (If fit, if not, Huddlestone)

Rooney, Crouch, Walcott, Defoe, Bent, C. Cole, Zamora

i reckon i might have forgotten a couple of names though

You'd take Hargreaves? Even though he's not played a full 90 minutes of first team football? And huddlestone??

huddlestone has played really well the second half of the season, kept palacios out of the side recently.

i only put hargreaves in because i can't think of another good english DM. Carrick has had a decent season, but he needs fletcher there to do the donkey work, and Barry looks like he wont be fit.

Fair enough, I think Barry will probably make it. I think Hargreaves is great, and could do the job, but it's a massive risk.

what about Ledley King? seems to be peaking at the right time and has managed 3 games in 9 games which shows he's maybe put his Darren 'sicknote' Anderton period behind him.

imo England just needs someone to tirelessly run around and tackle everyone like fletcher/mascherano, no talent required.

the amazing ledley king and dawson conceded 4 goals against the almighty burnley yesterday, remember

It's not a sicknote period, do you not realise he has fucked knees? The guy is crazy to still be playing, he will not be walking in later life.

He cannot train between games, and needs a minimum of 5 days rest, useless as anything but a backup for a big tourney. How can Capello judge his form when he cannot train with the squad?

hargreaves was our best player in 06. dawson and king did concede 4 against burnley at the weekend, but dawsons figures are sick for the season.

id take shawcross and cahill

both good young centre backs that have had really good seasons

no point in taking players like upson as back up, he wont start and he wont last till another tourney, may aswell take ageing players and the stronger team but younger players in reserve, experience will be wasted on some1 like upson or brown if thier not in the main 16 or so then really give it to young good players and develop the future

Total opposite of what you said Gohan, you need experience and reliability in case of injuries, not kids.

upson, yes perhaps, take cahill instead of him. but i'd still take brown because, unfortunately, he's probably the second best right back we've got.

Agreed. Why would anyone want the likes of Zamora or C.Cole in the England squad? Bent maybe deserves a call up for banging in 24 goals this season but thats it. Stick with the squad that got us qualified in the first place then add players with experience imo.

Erm, Zamora and Cole aren't kids.... I didn't say a thing about them. Zamora should go, he's demolished some very good defences this season.

Anyway

BBC Sport - Football - Jamie Carragher set to make England World Cup return

Why Capello, why? The guys well past it, he's been awful for a poor liverpool this season.

The fuck he does, if he takes him and Heskey, then we will have two players in the squad who can't turn.

zamora and carlton cole are inexperienced, not young, thier not the future so taking them would be a complete waste

England have got some good players for definite. Ashley Cole is a tosser but a great left back, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney are all excellent players. Unfortunately we have a real lack of quality in other positions.

The first time Terry and his defensive partner (whoever that will be) come face to face with small nippy forwards we will be in a world of hurt. The right back slot is a worry, Glen Johnson can't defend and Carragher should be able to but can't either being horribly out of form.

Lennon would have been a shoo-in for right midfield but will he be fully fit? Milner can play there but its not his best position. SWP can't cross to save his life.

Heskey works his bollocks off for the team and is a good targetman but isn't exactly a goal threat, also his ability to recover between matches is in question - he is showing his age these days. Similarly with Ledley King, good defender but no fitness at all.

Quarter finals for us, and thats only if we avoid Serbia in the round of 16. They would tear us to pieces.

Milner, Lampard, Gerard, Johnson

Rooney, Crouch

Rest

Defoe, Heskey, Bent

Barry (if fit) Carrick, Lennon, Walcott, Sol, Wes, Baines,

I'd also take gary neville over carragher all day long.

I don't think Glen is that bad at defending, if he really focuses on defending and not bombing forward all the time. But thats my biased opinion.

Carra sucks unless you want to hoof the ball 24/7 without precision :p

The fuck is that un-fit and error prone Carragher doing in the 30-man squad?.
