Fucking pricks

We moved into our house in August and cant get Fibre Optics, the best connection we have is 3meg though it never goes above 75k even at 2am

We were told BT Infinity would be there October, thought may aswell get that as its the best connection we will get.

October came around, then told it was pushed back to 30 November, we can wait another month fuck it, then told 30th December. Thought we can wait we wont be home most of December anyway.

December came round then told 30th March. Got a letter through last week saying we can apply for it now, called them up. Get your MAC address from Sky we will do the rest.

Yesterday got the MAC address and called BT again, oh its been pushed back to 30th June now.

I wonder if its actually ever going to get sorted, its so painful having 4 people in a house using under a meg internet, if one person is on Xbox live and someone else logs onto Facebook it crashes everything!

I have experienced problems with BT within the last year.

My company moved areas and we asked how much would it be to close a line and they given us a quote of £40 odd and then 2-3 months later they sent a bill in for £340 odd. It took us a further 2 months to get this sorted.

My gf's mum was with BT and she closed the account back in September 2010 and they said it would be £63 to close the account which we paid and the matter was closed. January this year we got further letters saying that if the 3 monthly period (Oct-Dec 2010) is due and if you dont pay we will cut you off.

We were like wtf... my gf's mum phoned them up and explained and said they had no records of this matter and if you dont pay we will cut you off. The mum then said she's not paying anything blah blah blah...BT also said that they will send a threatening letter to us and if we dont pay, were buggered. Its now End of March 2011 and we still not heard anything (touch wood).

The service from BT has dropped so far down... I will not deal with them, ever...

I live in the middle of nowhere and get roughly that speed. It can be a pain, but prioritising certain traffic through the router like xbox or ps3 usually keeps things pretty stable.

Incidentally I use sky too and refuse to use their router - it is awful and the fact that they can detect / bitch about you changing the firmware is rediculous, I Just use it as a modem and I use a proper netgear router.

Yeah sky are incredibly unhelpful when it comes to their hardware. Their routers not only have dire firmware, but they are also slightly underpowered too when it comes to wireless, they don't quite meet the wireless b/g standards apparently. Not suprising - they went to netgear and segem and basically asked them to build the cheapest possible routers they could.

I couldn't get wireless in half the house using their crap, and didn't really want to use a wireless bridge for obvious reasons, so just went and bought a descent router, turned wireless off on the sky junk and got nice wirless N everywhere.

Ive rigged up cables right throught the house with switches on every floor, same setup i had in my old house with 50 meg. The only time the wireless really gets used is if we are in the living room watching a movie and using our laptops, every other times its cables

I live in the middle of nowhere and get a steady 3.5 meg on sky. Same line, same deal I got slightly less than 1 meg with BT.

BT are pricks, don't use them unless you absolutely have no choice.

Anyway, I thought you lived in docklands or something? Surely you can get cable there?

And with regards to the sky wireless router, mine is fine (a netgear one) my mum, who lives next door scabs my wireless just fine through solid stone walls.

Fair enough, I would still go with a descent router though, I can't remember the last time I had to reset my trusty netgear one. I have lost connection twice this year, but that was down to the sky crap being a bit of a fussy modem.

They did the exact same to us when doing the 8mb >> 24 mb thing. Kept saying it's just around the corner and they are updating the exchange very soon. In the end and after many phone calls we got it canceled and switched to virgin 50mb. It is about 25X faster and they are bringing out 100mb here in september.

My father-in-law, who honestly can bearly turn a PC off is on the test program for the 100mb broadband with virgin. He phoned them after a decade with them and said he was thinking of switching to sky because he wasn't very happy with the picture quality of the HD channels (I should point out that his HD TV cost £295 from Asda), anyhow, they have put him on the test program for that which includes 18 months free when it goes live, oh and he is testing a new 1tb PVR for virgin too. I still get calls from him grumbling about the speed of his broadband. Aside from ebay and the chelsea website he doesn't really use the internet - go figure.

hey! I am not Finnish, I am an International Man of Mystery...

...not really :( I am Danish/Irish (which possibly also qualifies me as a drunkard)

I just happen to live in Finland (I have not lived in denmark for many many years, but I did recently live in Dublin)

Not really, their network running their kit means they can keep things in order. Never had any issues with my stock Sky netgear router.

I don't really see what there is to keep in order. They have never issued a firmware update for that router, and on the odd occasion when I have had to speak to tech support about it, they didn't know their way around the thing.

It has terrible functionality, and transmits at a pissy 75mw! That gives it an apalling range. Truth be told, I'm not convinced it is a particularly great modem either.

Well to be fair I use the wired connection, its only the wife who uses the wireless and my mum now and again when she is on ebay or something next door.
