Playstation 3 looks truely amazing tho, i think it will overshadow the wii personally

their press conference was shit though. They hardly showed us anything, only the stuff that the 360 already could do.

Hype for the PS3, I dont think it will be that much better.

+ The 350-450 price tag will put a lot of people off.

The Wii (or as it should have stayed: The Revolution) really appeals because most of the games look frankly bonkers :)

Nintendo consoles may not be tip top in the terms of power but in terms of innovative and frankly mental games sees them years ahead!

I've never liked anything that's come out on Nintendo. But I watched both vids with an equal objective open mind.

I gotta say that the PS3 looks better. Nintendo seems like they've spent hundreds of millions on creating a Fisher Price games console for the under-5's. The graphics look shite compared to the PS.

From what I've seen so far, PS3 pwns Wii. So far...

Unfortunatley, I doubt Sony players will ever get to experience the amazing fun that is multiplayer super-monkey ball :worthy:

actually PS3 quality of gfx etc is alot higher, i played xbox 360 for a while (altho waiting on Halo 3 before i judge properly), and tbh i wasnt impressed overly.
I am waiting on Pro Evo 6 before i make my judgement on that front, but if its anything like 5 it will be crap (all the managerial stuff ruined it tbh, i prefered pro evo 4)

With blue ray disks holding 50 gig (?) of info letting developers fill disks, and using the IBM Cell processors they can pack alot more into the games than they can in a xbox 360

it's alot harder to develope games for the PS3, so using all the power of the console will be very hard for the developers.

Worth it in the end.

@Zebolt: Exactly the same reason. FF = PS3 = I own it.

In a related vein, I dont know if anyone noticed but the last few games to come out on the PSOne actually had some amazing graphics - simply because by the time the PS2 had became mainstream, they had learned how to use the PSOne hardware to its full potential :D

Thats not always true.

Better hardware can make it easier, because you have less limitations in what you can do. So you don't have to gimp your polygon count down on hundreds of models because there isn't enough RAM. You don't have to use slow software drawing because alot of the stuff can be done directly by the GPU. etc

Basic examples, and it doesn't always work like that. But still :)

I dont think you understand, the processor on a PS3 is multi-corred, to program a game to utilize a multi-core processor is incredibly hard. And since alot of things in games depend on the result of one operation before another can begin, means that the majority of processing power is simply not used.

What the console mainly has going for it (I refuse to use that name as it is just an awful name) is the ability to download old school games from Nintendo (and perhaps Sega as well). So that means you can get your hands on a lot of Square games from old (as well as others of course.) If you can get The Secret of Mana, the original Final Fantasy games, Zelda: Link To The Past, then it may swing me to the system. Still a little dubious about that controller though.

well either way, both the wii and the ps3 will piss on the xbox imo.

Both of them have motion sensitive controllers, so for that alone the fun factor of the ps3/wii is higher than the 360. Aside from that, the ps3 will be the cheapest Blu-Ray drive/console on the market, even at £450, and will support the extra level of HD that the 360 doesn't.

I think the 2 controllers couldn't be more different. The PS3 one is an obvious after thought on Sony's part. They knew Nintendo's new console was gonna have it so they followed suit. I don't think they expected Nintendo's new controller to go several steps ahead of them.

Both consoles look exciting but Nintendo's has the edge for me. I'll admit I am a bit of a Nintendo fanboy and buy just about everything they come out with but this new console does excite me, much more than the Gamecube did anyway. All their anouncements have been about how they can make gameplay better and more fun and it looks like with the Wii they have done that.

Sony on the other hand have just gone for more power with PS3 in the hope that the technical specs will woo people to the machine. Anyway, the end of this year looks like being an expensive one for me....

As for Microsoft, I don't know what they have come up with at E3 yet but unless it is something special all they will have come November over Nintendo and Sony is a sales lead which I think will end up dwarfed after a few months. They played their hand too early, Sony saw what the 360 could do and basically up the specs on their machine to make it more powerful. Adding the motion controller must have been the icing on the cake for them, of course they didn't bank on Nintendo...

And for me it's Halo3 = xbox360 = I own it (or I will own it when halo comes out and the console is a lot cheaper I see no reason to buy it now.

One thing i dont understand regarding consoles is why the games cost like 1.5x to 2x what you pay for a PC game. They use the same medium these days (dvd discs etc), have comparative markets and are often easier to produce due to uniformity of the platform (less hassle with making sure it will work for different specs etc).

production costs, the games companies have to get the dev kits and what not, much more research into the consoles capabilites.

(and a little bit of greed ofc)

That doesnt sound right. PC game developers have the exact same costsn for developers etc, and as i said its *easier* not harder to program for consoles since they know the exact specs they have to work with and what they can and cannot do since all consoles are the same (i.e. they dont have to make allowances for different GPU's, CPU's, RAM, Mobo and driver combinations and specs etc).

With dev kits, do you mean they have to pay a huge fee to be allowed to program games for the console? Imo, it should be in the console companies interest that game companies create games for their machines. Ah well, guess its another example of the wonders of intellectual property (i.e. "we made the machine but we arent satisfied just with selling it, we want money whenever someoen else creates something thats to be used with it as well").
