Why the albs failed where the hibs succeded

We've learnt our lesson (for some time at least) and won't let anyone sneak up on our precious' anymore :p

Another reason was simply bad luck, due to an early spot.

After a bit of a lull in incomings through HMGO and AMGO the members of Onslaught in Odins decided to suicide at APKO, we came across a mini infi zerg (sorry Hitokiri, but I did tell you I would avenge the death of my husband ;) ) Once they had been dealt with, by us and others, we pootled off to APK.

As usual we had a race to see who could get closest to the doors. Bodond made it inside before he died, and immediately reported 3 FGs Albs inside, some just sitting there. Well, we reported this on /as and decided that it was probable they were waiting a further port well...

3FGs Albs = Sufficient for Keep take
3FGs Albs waiting for more to port = cause for concern

So while we all went to help our new level 50 Healer with her Epics (Grats Ibela :D ) the MGs were closely watched and fair enough sometime later a shout of "7FGs Albs+" came up on /as.

Massive Midgard response in minutes was incredibly impressive, helped in part by a full pad of porters to Emain rushing the very short distance to the RK.

Great effort Albs... shitty bad luck tho.

Excellent defence Midgard :clap:

Other reasons

We ran over Kephan (i think it was) en-route to midguard's relic, erm and i am fairly confident that the raid was well known about in advance. But hey, thats part of the game, our own dumb ass fault for not changing targets.

Some of us had quite a nice rolling mellee as the BK mid horde came out to play.

Ah well another day...

Desdecado, at least in New Era alliance the call for defence was raised when you lot were close to Mjollnir - so "well known in advance" is a bit dubious. ;)
If we'd known in advance, why would we just start rushing when you started pulling guards instead of just sit waiting for you?

I'd like to curse you for ruining my nice xp group though :p

Same as us really, we had suspicions (see above) but that was all, and went on to do Epics while waiting for those suspicions to be grounded or not.

Its very easy to infer "prior knowledge" when something goes wrong. I mean... how many RR's have we attempted recently where we have taken no keeps in advance and seen NO Albs in the Alb frontier only to get to Excalibur to find 1,000,000 Albs there waiting? Well... maybe not a million but it feels like it when your relic force gets wiped in minutes :(

Just be gracious and put it down to bad luck, an early spot a trampled Troll and good defence eh?

..... ok so I am being anal about it (so sue me) but had it crossed any of your minds that this 'lag into the PK while getting killed' thing might not exactly be in the spirit of the game?

Sure - if you can run at mach 5, get to the door, open it and get in before being nuked/pin cushioned then fine, but frankly I would say this is pretty much an abuse just as is cross-realm spying. In this instance it doesn't appear to have affected the outcome (I am sure you often hear '3FGs waiting in Odins APK - looks like possible relic attempt' on asend) so grats on your defence guys, but just go away and think about whether you ought to be trying to cheat your way inside the PK, eh?

Jupitus, I can't say I see it as "lag into PK".
It might be considered exploiting game mechanics, but even that would be stretching it...
You don't open the doors, the guards open the doors to run out and kill you.
The fact that the PK guards target one, maybe two at a time makes it quite easy at skald speed to run into the PK when guards open the doors, you're the second or last in a full group storming at the keep.
On the other hand, dying infront of the doors - then when a guard opens the door you could easily peek in through the doors.
Dead people shouldn't be able to see - that would remedy that part of it.
But I think you're way off the line putting this kind of activity on equal footing with cross-realm spying - an activity that is expressively forbidden in the CoC.

Jupitus, with skald speed and sprint it is quite possible to make it inside quite easy, and definitely not by cheating.... I've been in a few races to see who got the furthest and got inside at least 3-4 times. You see you can't open the pk doors yourself, but when you are running up to the pk guards come running out opening the doors so you can run in. Of course it also helps if the first guards you encounter are already attacking your group members, then you've got a few extra seconds before you are attacked.

I'm sure you are sore over this, but it sure as hell isn't cheating. Cheating would for example be getting inside while not being spotted by the guards, but that is not the case here. From what I heard Bodond died from guards just after entering the pk. Get over it...

Its just a game that everyone plays from every realm I am sure... see how far up the hill you can get before you eventually die. Sometimes theres even a bit of gold changes hands for the winner.

99% of the time most people die before they get even close to the doors. Sometimes people get closer than that and die between the doors and so on.

Jup: Sorry you think that suiciding on a PK can be considered in some circumstances to cheating, but as the alternative suicide is taking an XP death, I think I will carry on using PKs.

Ahhhh so THATS why our 2fg hibs who came to odins to have fun were stormed by 5+fg mids at bledmeer :).

Ok though, my bad... I thought you meant when you die and do a nice lag-slide inside, I didn't realise you meant the guards were opening the doors, and no, I wouldn't consider that cheating at all, just good use of speed and tactics.... mind you, I wish my ickle legs would carry me that fast - would have saved my skinny butt a few times, I reckon ;)

Yeah, even if you die just outside the doors, sometimes the guards rush out and open them as they do. So even if you are dead outside you can see inside when both doors are open.

Based on Case's assumption that "Lanfaer" was an alb who did a /who and came up with the #225, his post showed no surprise!!

Did you REALLY have that many people in our frontier last night? I know that when I eventually got to the RK (Having been killed outrageously quickly by what looked like the whole of SotL TWICE before I got there) there was a sea of Albs... but 200+??

No wonder it was a little laggy ;)

It was really just shitty bad luck that albs got seen in odins - we should know, lost count how many times we've made our way to Excal and just got seen by a random alb or 2 in the strangest of places.

Other than that it was nicely done, didn't take long to get you guys from odins to mjollner, really impressive looking force too.

And hibs, lol we heard 2-4fg hibs came through hmgo and assumed they had heard about the albs in uppland so we gathered up mids in odins then rushed to bled when we heard you went there, that musta been some shock turning around to see 40+ frothing mids charging up behind you :)

while hadrian is dead empty most often as nothinc really happends there

True walker, but you got the jist of what I was saying - take hibs the other day, we had noone in odins and noone saw a thing. Compared to that you were just unlucky.

And jadow, that'd be with your lvl 50 rod of thrusting (+10 thrust)? :p

Like I said in my initial post, did a /who in uppland when in mjollnir where WE keep our precious relics = I'm a proud Midgardian citizen, no sneaky alb or hib here ;)

I really can't see a successfull raid being pulled on mjollnir at peak hours atm, since its a 2 minute sprint from Svasud Faste which is our BK/PK, like 99% of all 45+ have their chars bound there nowadays, so when it's confirmed that someone is attacking Mjollnir Faste it won't take long before there's a lynchmob heading your way, I would love to see you try to prove me wrong tho :flame:

Actually there were lots of mids in Odins that night, miraculously we avoided them though. Through good scouting I suppose though.
Amongst others we had 3fg mids suiciding at hpk around the time we left Odins for Jamtland, we thought you knew then, since the few hibs trying to catch up saw you suiciding, so we thought you were on the way to Grallarhorn.

Heh Azal, we just came for fun, guess we wouldnt be going to AMG and checking it out if we were there with some bigger reason than to meet some non-zerg opposition.

And no, at relic raid thingie, we actually were spotted by 2 people, first was troll skald way back at HMG, but guess your realm communication suffers some, or they just chose not to tell...

Waffle. I agree with azal (am i really saying that!) I think it was one of those OMG it really is a relic raid, spotted by some unlucky mid. I think I once actually bumped into Azal as he was scouting ahead of a mid force (in the days when we had relics) so i can see it from both sides.

Ofcourse, I blame myself for the relic raid failing. I think I previously had a thread called desdecado is... please add any flames to that.

I dont think there were 200 albs there, i recon maybe 140 or so. certainly made a nice conga thru Jamtland.

Ofcourse one of the big issues (for albions and maybe hibs too) is at the top of the thread, everyone uses emain, so its not unusual to see 60 albs in that zone, keeps change hands often, so when ever theres more than 3fgs of albs spotted in odins the game is up... unless of course we always run around in 2fgs, but all take different routes... then if we are spotted,

Defenders might just think, ahh a BK gank squad...
