Police officers authority being challenged = typical bullying response = yet another reason for a written constitution and regulation of powers.

Honestly Shagrat, I don't think they give a fuck.

Most people will look at this and think "lets not fuck with the police, even if we're in the right - it's not worth it" - which in the cops eyes is a win :(

On the photography path, but nothing to do with the police really; but a family member of mine went to a christening, where they had 4-5 other babies there having their christening done too - they wern't allowed to take photo's nor could they actually see the child getting christened.

Tis stupid.

I'm not surprised, photographs steal one's sole. And any photograph with a child in is prime wanking material.

This is what 13 years of Labour have taught me.

Any other parts of the foot? Or just the sole? I feel I might need more robust shoes.

I think I'm going to start making videos now that I have the 7D and posting them for the world to see.

It's absolutely preposterous and fucking disgrace that they're still at it.

Just thought I'd better say this right now - they'll bring in something slightly less draconian instead...

Probably, but any rejection of this fucking retarded "you can't photograph this empty piece of land because it might be terrorist activity" wanky-bedsheet of a law is a win situation.

The Government know it, the Police know it and the public know it.

Or bollocks:

Police will now not be allowed to use the powers unless they "reasonably suspect" a person of being a terrorist.

Reasonable suspicion is already the test for use of the stop and search powers.

New government, same shit.

U missed this bit :

"She said after taking legal advice and consulting with police forces, the use of Section 44 powers will now be restricted to searching vehicles."

The thing is, section 44 is purely a stop and search power that allows police to stop and search without reasonable suspicion. I wasn't pleased with it, but I had no objection to answering a few questions or showing my photos to the police when asked to do so (under section 44) in the "name of public and homeland security".

However, what is pissing on my cornflakes (and ever other photographer's) is that "stop and search" becomes "you're not allowed to take photos, if you do we'll arrest you". It's been blatantly misused and abused by forces up and down the country and it's been well documented by enthusiasts and the press.

The rejection of section 44 is a step forward. They couldn't stop you taking photos before hand and now it's cemented in that there simply is no law to prevent anyone from taking photographs, terrorist or not.

Are you sure?

I've read the legislation and I can't see anything in Section 44 that requires reasonable suspicion.

Section 43 requires it, but Section 44 does not.

Lol, what a load of bollocks. They were not under caution thus had no obligation to answer any questions.. so apparently being clued about your own rights as a citizen means fuck all because the bottom line is if they want to arrest you they'll keep pushing and pushing until they do.

"The police can stop anyone in a public place and ask you to account for yourself. For example, you could be asked to account for your actions, behaviour, presence in an area or possession of anything. When the police stop you and ask you for an explanation, you don't need to provide your personal details. The police will give you a receipt or a business card so you know who they are."

"The police should not question you with a view to getting evidence until they have cautioned you. If you have been arrested, you must not be interviewed before being taken to the police station unless:
delay could lead to interference with or harm to evidence connected with the offence
delay could lead to physical harm to others
delay would alert someone suspected of committing an offence who has not yet been arrested
delay would hinder the recovery of property that is the subject of the offence.
If you are cautioned without having been arrested, you must be told you are free to leave whenever you want."

Edit (and yes i've just realised this is an old story)

When the wife was taking photos of that Bollywood set in Glasgow the security guard told her to stop, I didn't say anything, cos he was a really nice bloke and it wasn't worth getting into an argument over.
But he way she just went 'sorry' and the other people taking pics did as well makes you realise that a lot of people think it is sort of illegal to take pics, like as if the people doing something 'own' their image.

Hah, these guys didn't play ball and the police bullied them. Here in the US, they sue the police force, the city, the state and the government. It only takes a handful of payouts for the cops to get the message.
are you sure about that? police brutality is getting worse in the US while officers get off lightly

YouTube - ‪Vancouver Airport Taser/Tazer Killing of Dziekanski by Cops‬‏

The police is beeing run by "normal" people, ie. (90%) idiots. The problem is idiots can only do one thing and do that well. That would be to do the things they where told to do. If you give them more power and tell them to use it, they will.

Police with tasers and the legal ability to use them when they want is the reason I will never go to the USA. Running 50.000 volts through a body and claiming its save is just..................

And yes I know this would be in Canada. But search a little further.

Saw a bloke getting interrogated by a copper at Glasgow airport the other week for taking pictures of planes at the terminal. I would be interested as well in why he was taking pictures as it was the most miserable and boring place I have ever visited.
