This is not a question about skill. It is a question about tactics that good players employ when they play.
I have studied decent players like jobbie, Swarm and Wifebeater (hello Perp
) and have come up with these observations:
(1) they are patient. CS is a cat and mouse game sometimes and this means waiting for the mouse to take the bait before pouncing. I found that I tended to rush around looking for trouble a lot. Hence I became the mouse and more than likely the dead mouse. My Quake DM days still linger.
(2) they have learnt the best places to be on a map. Nooks and crannies where they have the best vantage points to shhot from without being seen;
(3) they alter tactics regularly to suit the situation. I said in (1) that they are patient, but they also know that a surprise rush can be just as potent.
(4) they are very careful. Jumping when going round corner and possible hiding points and frequently looking behind them.
Skill is a major factor, of course, but the mere mortals like myself can learn a lot from watching other players and learning how they play.
