If both were alive and at the top of their game? Bruce Lee every time. Lee was faster, stronger and did not rely only on his fists.

I dont know maybe I just dont know enough about martial arts but it has always seemed to me that as fast as Lee was, if he got near tyson he would be killed.

I shouldn't have said hypothetical....I should have said...."imagine both people were alive, well, and at the peak of their physical fitness. Now imagine both men could meet and have a fight. The first person to knock the other person out cold, or force a submission would win"....

I agree that Lee was always a much more skillful fighter, but when I imagine that fight in my head, I see lee trying to use a karate block on one of tysons brute force punchs and just not being able to properly.

Ok well like I said I'm far from an expert on martial arts. Whatever kindof martial art block tho I just dont see it being able to block a tyson full force haymaker

You don't block, if you are facing a more powerful opponent the principle of most martial arts are to re-direct the power of your oppositions blow.

To be fair, among other things he is NOT famous for, Bruce Lee did pioneer things like high protein muscle building diets and electrical muscle stimulation, so the guy new a thing or two about keep fit, whereas mike tyson rapes and beats women and bite peoples ears off while snorting cocaine.

Actully, after giving it some thought and mostly remembering some footage I saw of how the Graceys(sp?) dealt with brawlers in the old UFC I'll go with Lee

I would think the cocaine would be, it isn't exactly condusive to being at the peak of your physical fitness is it?

You aren't exactly keeping to the spirit of the thread are you? Lamp said assuming both were at the top of their physical fitness. Tyson was immense for a long time before he self destructed. Your opinions on their personality or morals aren't really needed for the purposes of this thread are they?

IMO one punch from Tyson and Lee is sparked. But given a open space where Lee could avoid him his speed could prove decisive.

What would be interesting is how would Lee do vs a complete fighter like Anderson Silva which would then lead to Lesnar.

Bruce Lee could beat tyson down with 1 hand tied behind his back if he was still alive.

Tyson probably weighs twice as much as bruce lee did. Surely he could just get hold of the fucker and over power him? :p Give Brucey a stick or something and I reckon he could take him tho.

is there any footage of bruce lee fighting and not acting?

Good question, haven't looked but it would be awesome to see some footage.

A boxer holding someone down? All they can do is fooking hug.

In a way he is. Lee always had mental discipline. You could argue the fight is won mentally before any aggressive action even occurs. Physical fitness isn't the whole affair I would imagine (I'm hardly an expert fighter which is why I add the caveat of 'I Imagine.)

I'd take Lee; he had pretty much every part of his body as a weapon, either offensively or defensively.

Purely because I have never actually seen Bruce Lee fight, just choreographed fight scenes which mean fook all.

Read up on him, well worth doing. The man is not respected as one of the greatest fighters of all time for no reason. As well as being a great fighter, he was a great man, intelligent, kind, and philosophical.

You don't create your own style of martial art, and have it taught around the world if you cannot actually fight.

Although i am one of very limited number of people that consider Tyson to be truly one of the greatest boxers ever, i would could not see him or any other boxer for that matter being able to live with any competent martial artist let alone one who was considered one of the greatest to ever practise it.

Anyone saying otherwise i think doesnt even begin to see the difference between boxing and martial arts.

Tyson would be far too slow, it is that simple. Bruce was incredible on his feet, his movement was astonishing at times. Speed will always beat power.

Apparently Lee's punch could cover 5 feet in 1/10th of a second, for comparison, an Ali jab was 4/10th of a second.

I have to say i was just watching a few clips of "Iron Mike" at his peak and man he was a monster, brings back so many memories.

Trevor Berbick is one that always stayed in my mind poor guy got knocked to next week!!

Here is a short clip of some oh his better ones.

YouTube - Mike Tyson At His Best

At his peak I don't think many boxers could have stood up to this guy apart from the "The Greatest".

But i still stand by my vote. Lee any day of the week.
