Yeah, was a good match. Fabregas (sp) played well, Cygan looked good cept for 1 cockup and Reyes was class as usual (Thought he should've bagged at least 2 though) Flamini has played well pre-season too, and we've got Aliadiare, Clichy...etc. Alot of depth in the squad. :)
I see Van persie getting sent off quite soon. He used to play on the streets in Holland in this thing they have called Cage Football, pretty vicious apparently, had the police breaking it up. He looks pretty tempermental.

Bodhi, I appreciate you are still hurting about Italy's poor Euro 2004. Something which I expected and you flamed me to hell for it. The four weeks following their leaving the tournament were some of the happiest here on Freddyshouse, as you came no where near the place.

Only now when people are starting to forget, for the most part, about your anti-English posts have you been courageous enough to return. I don't have a problem with flamers, but I do have a problem with gutless wannabee flamers. Yes Bodhi, that would be you.

Villa won the European Cup in 1982. We haven't done very much since, apart from a few league cup victories and some top six finishes ... but I support my local team because they are my local team. I don't have to support some foreign team because I am so ashamed of my nationality.

I find this hilarious. Firstly you speak like a voice of experience, yet who the fuck are you? Have you been around for years, and so are able to make informed judgements on Bodhi's posts? <pause for thought>

Secondly, Bodhi isn't a sad net nerd (and probably not a DAoC player), and therefore does not throw petty tantrums on boards because of something he will have posted in the past. Anyone that has a clue knows this isn't Bodhi. Chances are he was "Outside©".

Gutless wannabe flamers? Oh the irony!

I also find it hilarious you've ignored the fact he's located in Scotland, too.

Villa won the cup in 82? Hey hey! Well done! Stop living in the past like Liverpool fans have to. :D

Do you think Villa will finish above Boro, considering Villa have one of the best managers in the country?

I don't know. The manager is great, but the board - particularly Deadly Doug - are the tightest misers in the Premiership. They have a nasty habit of bankrolling bad managers and not giving the good ones any money to spend. Thankfully we have some good young players coming through and some quality loan signings.

I really don't like McClaren and Boro put me to sleep with their tedious football. Hey, I'm allowed to not like them ;)

Being flamed for supporting my local team is pretty poor, even by Bodhi's standards.... And Swift, as for who I am, I was a regular poster on Barrysworld and a regular reader of these forums. But, hey, flame me all you like if it makes you feel better :)

Thanks for ignoring the rest of my post and only replying to the Villa bit.

On the subject of Arsenal, they ran circles around Man Utd all day. I accept the fact Man U are missing a few key players but they were pretty poor in comparison. Reyes is going to be huge. Fabregas could replace Vieira right now. Van Persie runs like a poof. Even Cygan looked good. Cole should follow up his superb Euro2004 with another excellent season for Arsenal.

After seeing that today, I take back what I said earlier - Arsenal all the way.

It wasn't a flame, it just amuses me to see people mention the fact they support their local club as if they deserve a medal for it especially when they're Premiership supporters. Do you have a season ticket at Villa Park?

I have already commented on their squad. They have some good names in their squad, but they are all a little long in the tooth. If they are going to do something this season they will all have to gel from the get-go. I don't rate McClaren and I really don't think he has what it takes to get them ticking.

Only time will tell. And whatever happens this season will not remove the bad taste of his abusing his position with England to unsettle two Villa players who, in turn, unsettled Boateng.

I pointed out to our local Italian supporting Scot that I support my local team, is that so hard to understand? Sure we haven't done much over the years ... but that doesn't change the fact that they are my local team, my first footballing love. Love is blind :)

As for season ticket ... last time I had one of those was way back when Big Ron was in charge. I work most weekends and long hours, so it would just be a waste of (a lot) of money. Since when did the lack of a season ticket make somebody a non-supporter? Next thing you'll be accusing me of being a glory hunter

I was just curious if you were a season ticket holder or not. A lot of people claim to support clubs yet have never been to the ground. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time arguing with somebody who isn't a true fan.

I've only just got my first season ticket for my beloved but it didn't stop me going to nearly 40 games last season.

Shame you have to work weekends. Villa are a good club but their supporters have a stupid air of arrogance about them despite the fact they've been pretty useless in recent years. O'Leary will take you far, don't be daft like Leeds were and get rid of him - look where that "massive club" are now.

You're going to loan us a player are you? Well, where the fuck is he then? We've got 13 fit players at the minute, it's only been a month since Mills joined your lot so why are you still signing players when you haven't fulfilled your part of previous transfer dealings?

Fucking "big club" wankers.
You can have Doherty, in fact please! :D KEEP HIM!

went to watch man u v arsenal game today.

my thoughts are bellion/forlan/djemba/fletcher/nevilles are the reason why man u wont be winning the league this year.

the back up players arent good enough to play for my local team, nevermind in the premiership.

Having watched todays charity community trophy shield thingy, I don't see ManUre winning much, extremely shaky at the back, need horse face back as soon as possible. Would be nice to see Chelsea win just to prove those "Money doesn't buy you success" idiots wrong AGAIN (Look at Blackburn FFS). Don't want Ars*nal to win due to the fact im a spurs fan (I know its not my local team but the midlands prem teams are shite, and me dads a spurs fan).

The villa/boro arguments are amusing, boro have done well in transfer market this year, and villa fans just want to see deadly doug dead (provided all his money goes to the club).

Onto serious matters, i'm an ex-season ticket holder at kidderminster harriers (Damn you uni) and now we are in League Two having been in the conference 5 seasons ago, I can see us being in the premiership after 4 more league renames.

Arsenal were quite impressive, although Man Utd weren't at full strength we also had an under par Henry, no Campbell, no Viera, no Pires, no Ljungberg (ok he's shit, but still... :D) The new kids look awesome.

Oh dear oh dear. This wasn't smart at all. You see this thing I'm about to hand you? That would be your arse. Be prepared.

I dissapeared for 2 weeks after Italy got knocked out of Euro 2004 becuase I was at university graduating. You know, real life outside stuff. I was going to come back on and laugh at Beckham's ineptitude and Eriksson's numerous tactical blunders but I thought nah, I'll leave y'all to wallow in your dissapointment. Chanting "You're going home, you're going home you're going, football's going home" in the pub was good enough for me. It was the same pub certain foreigners laughed at our defeat at the hands of Holland, so a bit of payback was in order. I shan't mention the Italian exit, as I still think that was the dodgiest thing to happen in a major tournament since the Hand of God. It's an argument to stay out of imo.

I'll leave your second paragraph alone, it's funny enough without me calling you a tard line by line. But me? Not courageous enough to come back to a board I've flamed? Try and learn in future who you're trying to flame will you. You'll look like less of a spanner.

Your final mistake - trying to claim moral superiority cos you're a Villa fan. You say you're from the Midlans, yet you pick the biggest Midlands team you can support. Hey everybody, it's glory seeking with principles. I support Juve, not becuase I'm ashamed to be a jock (far from it in fact), but because I watched Serie A on telly before I watched any other league, so I picked a team from there to support. Living in France right next to the Italian border helped.

I take back what I said about no-one missing Villa if they dissapeared. The rest of the Premiership would. They wouldn't have a group of supporters to laugh at any more. I still have you to laugh at though. And that's going to keep me going all the way through work.

Thank you.

Come again.

Bodhi, you are priceless. Full marks :)

I support the Villa because I could see Villa Park from my house as a kid, I had no idea if they were big, little, first division or whatever. They were just 'my' football team. It's quite funny that in the same breath you call us the biggest team in the Midlands you also say we're the biggest laughing stock in the Premiership. Make your mind up ;)

And yes, England's performance in Euro 2004 wasn't the best. But I support the country of my birth and I support my local footie team. I'm glad that you can reason away in your own mind supporting Italy and an Italian club team, but you'll forgive me if I'm a little on the skeptical side :)

The irony lying within the fact Bodhi announced he was going to support Chelsea this season. Have you ever been to London Bods?

Villa manages to be the biggest club in the Midlands yet still remain a laughing stock in the way Birmingham manages to be the biggest city in the Midlands yet still be a laughing stock throughout the rest of the country. Seems to be a fine art the brummies have down to a T.

I would have supported my home nation in Euro 2004, but as you no doubt took great pleasure in pointing out, we weren't there. So I picked another team to get behind, like I said I've been watching Serie A as long as I can remember, so Italy were the natural choice. Don't feel rejected because I didn't pick England, I'm sure I would have watched the Premiership if it was on in France. When Scotland play Italy in the WC qualifiers, I'll be behind the boys in dark blue.

No mank, I won't be supporting Chelsea this season. I fancy them to win the Premiership, but I don't count myself as a fan by any means. I'm still a Juventini through and through.

People like taking the mickey out of Birmingham it's true. But usually the people putting on their funny accents confuse the Birmingham accent for the Black Country one. Which would be a little like people taking the piss out of London and putting a Cornish accent on ... shows how much they know about the subject.

And Bodhi stop stalking me!! I get the fact you don't like me, but it does get a bit tedious having to disagree with you all the time :m00:

heskey will do a good job up front with forsell.
izzet will score the odd goal.
gronkjaer is a good signing, and will provide good service.
melchiot is a solid defender, which will improve them.
gray is a good youngster who will chip in with the odd goal.
sicknote... a new club might do him the world of good.

and btw im not a birmingham suppoter :)
i just think that bruce has done a good job.

As painful as it is (!) I have to agree the Blues have made some good signings. Good to see a board getting behind their manager and putting their money where their mouth is. Should make for an exciting season in the Midlands, seeing who can put the most goals past the Albion ;)

Well here's my 2 penneth worth on the subject, I think Arsenal will get the Premiership again this season although it will be alot closer than it was last year, I think Chelsea will pip Man Utd to second place again. Arsenal have a real team spirit as well as some real top class players, Reyes and Henry will tear some sides apart this season.

As for the first division, well I cant say anyone else but Sunderland. Dodgy game against monkey heads Coventry on Saturday but I'm sure things will work out. Mick Mac looks to have signed some good promising youngsters this season in Liam Lawrence and Dean Whitehead as well as Stephen Elliot, these kids will be hungry and not money grabbing over the hill players like Mcateer ect.

Oh and Mank, I have to ask this as there's a bit of a rumour up here about us moving in for Sam Parkin, I'll be honest and say I havent seen more than his goals he scored last season. So whats the rest of his game like, does he link up play like a Sheringham or is he just an out and out goal scorer? Oh and do you see it happening if we come in with a firm bid ?
